After long consideration, I've decided the only way I can possibly become a poker player and maintain a winner over the long run is to play on 50 BI's @ NL2 til I hit $500, and play on 50 BI at NL10 as well.

I'll then pace myself at 100 BI from NL25 on up.

If I fail this time with poker then im finished completely, my discipline problems have bested me too much in the past, and I can't allow it to continue.

I'll also be lookin for the fishy HU games whenever I can, but not vs anyone that has talent.

GL everyone,
Ryan (DReaMe)

LOL from an opposite to the other, so good, i love you neilly.

I can't wait to see that. and i think that the "but not vs anyone that has talent" line is gonna be your first excuse the next time people catch you playing underolled "I know i'm a better player than him so i'm playing him!" just like you said before, attacking when you see +EV!

it makes me sad to read this blog

it used to be entertaining, but then I realized I was just laughing at someone else's degeneracy that is SO deep that he can't see the obvious slivers of truth in all the flames and still clings to an image of himself as a great player. I mean, seriously, is there anything more tragic? This is some shakespearean shit right here

just to clear things up, this is not entertaining

YES! I was wondering when the bug would get the best of him and make him deviate from his plan to raise his BR reqs! It's not like 50BI is a bad thing at all, but it is half of the 100BI rule he said before obv, and this is the first sign of going back to being a degen.

GL Neilly!!! XD

Moderation, man. Moderation. You're going to busto and/or kill yourself one of these days.

NeillyJQ   United States. Nov 20 2007 10:05. Posts 8947

I'm not busting or killing myself, I've been learning alot about this game, and haven't been playing too long.

Thanks for the GL guys, I'll be playing on atleast 50 BI's until NL25 where I'll kick it up to 100 BI's.

GL everyone,
Ryan (DReaMe)

*and its hard for me to pass up on a noob sitting on a HU NL50 table, sometimes I just have to pounce*

and im far from degen, i just don't have much else to do other than play poker at home

I don't know how many times ppl may have told you already but once more might help:

You don't have to apply such ridiculous huge buy-in bank roll management strategies, how about instead of applying extremes you just choose something that is somewhere in between?

Seriously 30 buy-ins for each stake and moving down when you drop down to 20 buy-ins before giving it another shot is just FINE.

The way you're going about it you're either going down bankroll suicide playing extremely under rolled or going to just kill yourself because using a 100 buy in or even a 50 buy in rule will be soooo tedious and boring to stick to especially playing microstakes.

muckv - i have an iq of 180 and i want someone to teach me how to take a shit IN the toilet.

rgfdxm   United States. Nov 20 2007 10:25. Posts 1514

Moderation means not setting absurdly high bankroll requirements for yourself, is what I was getting at. If you have a modest winrate then your risk of ruin will be 1% or less with 25 or 30 buyins. What advantage is there to going up to 50 or 100 buyins? It's negligible. All it serves to do is slow you down and frustrate you. The only way you can be hurt is to tilt and/or break your bankroll management, and I think trying to play excessively overrolled makes that more likely, not less. Playing with 25 BI and having the discipline to stick to that plan is far better than alternating between playing overrolled and underrolled and switching what games you play constantly.

I can't see any good coming from setting such arbitrary limits on yourself, they prove nothing to anyone. Playing very overrolled is not a virtue. Discipline doesn't mean playing overrolled, it means never playing underrolled. Playing overrolled most of the time won't make up for playing underrolled even a little of the time.

I think you'd be best served by setting some reasonable requirements for yourself, get comfortable at the appropriate limit, and just play poker.

50BIs? 100BIs? at 10/25nl?? degeneracy aside, you're never going to make it anywhere in poker playing with bankroll management that conservative.
When you're playing nl10 and you can make 50 buyins a week working fulltime at an average job.. and its probably gonna take you 2 months to do the same grinding. why waste your time?? I mean i can see not wanting to play 100nl headsup without say 35 buyins... but at the nl10 level you're not really risking much. n10 is a good introduction to the game, but once u have a little experience and confidence that u can beat the game, go to 25nl. even if you're 2 tabling with a 6 buyin bankroll, as least it has some upside.

100 buyins for u is 40 grand. thats a year's salary at a pretty good job. so ya at those stakes it makes sense to be conservative. When you can find a buyin in your couch cushions it doesnt.

Uuuuuh no, he's not the type that listens to advice from more experienced poker players...

Anyway, I recommend a 1000 buy-ins rule for NL2, which will allow you to take some agressive shots at NL600 HU if you see a fish sitting there.
