why isnt dennis phillips playing tight? does he hate money? |
I think not betting AJ on a Jhigh board with some draws on it on the turn is very tight/bad.
I don't think he's doing anything out of the ordinary anyway? Maybe my memory is foggy though. |

Dennis Philips showed that 23s after taking the pot down with standard c bet and acts all proud n shit. He about to get robbed of all his money in later episodes. I can feel it. And I think Laak is there just because of his spazzy personality. He has good hand analysis since he always talks out loud but he lacks creativity and guts. |

i don't think dennis has a clue what he's doing when he checked the turn with AJ. He seems pretty loose passive to me.... |

Oh wait yeah his call with 89s was really bad as well ;o
loose/passive for sure, also explains the proudness with the 23s.

lol... I played with phillips at PCA in a side event and in this one hand he flopped a straight flush and tried to trap some guy who actually had the straight and lost the absolute minimum on the hand... then he proceeded to donk his whole stack to some nit when he had top pair in a 3 or 4 bet pot with 98s lmao... this guy is ridic |

why are people so passive on the turn vs dwan? they open pre, bet flop and check turn, check call river, and then act surprised they lost the hand |

thats the durr effect, you think he will call on all streets or make a move on you, and most are playing semi scared money except for the obvious few |

i disagree with some of you who complain about the less loose/aggressive players (esfandiari, laak). despite what yall may think, it would be worse to have a bunch of crazies just gambling it out. we need some of those scared money in there because that provides diversity. ivey, durrr and patrick can duke it out and wow us with their skill, and this is pretty much the highlight of the show. but it doesn't mean filling the table with 9 iveys is going to make those magical moments happen _that_ much more. with some of these "fish" in there, it's also fun seeing how the top players can beat down them down, and seeing how the this battle goes. a mix of players and setting them up in a way that you can provide a setting for a story line to take place is the best way to create an entertaining show. |

no that makes no sense, obviously a super agressive and loose game will be much more entertaining to watch.
Nobody wants to see Antonio nut peddling playing 1 hand per episode, imagine if you toss there Farha, Isildur and another crazy maniacs, the average pot would go insanely high and people with play for stacks with top pair no kicker constantly etc. |

Only reason Laak and Esfandiari are invited constantly is because of the overrated image that they created for themselves as "loose" / "maniacal" players.
Laak with his unibomber pushups
Esfandiari with his stupid magic tricks. |

I think the reason players like Esfandiari play so tight is because they are on a table with durrrr, Ivey and Antonius. I watched PAD the cash game last week, which had a table with Ferguson, Hellmuth, Esfandiari, Adams, Todd Brunson and Matusow and Esfandiari raised almost every pot preflop and nobody fought back (btw that PAD table is soooo boring, please don't watch).
On a table with durrrr, Ivey and Antonius he seems to be outplayed by them and his response is to tighten up. The same with Phil Laak (remember his $50,000 preflop raise last year with aces, only because he did not want to play a flop with durrrr).
@Lex: How did you adjust with durrrr seating 2 to your left? |

yes you are right, actually i think antonio is a good hand reader and he was playing really really good in previous seasons i was very impressed but he feels (and correctly does) outclassed so his response is to tighten up and actually that is the correct move since it will minimize losses in a table you are not EV+.
The question is, why put a player that will nit it up cuz he feels outclassed instead of a loose guy who doesnt give a fuck if he is outlcassed like Elezra or Farha... both are worse players than Esfandiari yet they are much more entertaining to watch. |

Do you think there are a lot of loose, "I don't give a fuck about money" players who want to play in HSP? I cannot imagine that the directors of HSP don't want Farha in their show.
edit: oops double post. Pls remove this one. Sorry. |
