Bruhhh, there is absolutely no value in buying a new car. People arent rolling back odometers lol, especially on anything made within the last 10 years. Do you realize how complicated that is? Not to mention most odometers are digital now anyways. There's also no incentive to do that on a late model car. Not like somebody put 200k miles on their 2015 BMW and wants to pass it off as a 30k car that somehow wont show any other forms of wear like cracked leather, chipped paint, etc. If you're looking at 2015 anything you're fine.

Also the idea that you get great maintenance coverage for buying new is pretty flawed, you dont want to "insure" your car against mechanical faults. You're just paying for unused maintenance in the form of 2x the car payment. If your 2020 BMW is in the shop every 3 months then you have bigger things to worry about than a piece of mind maintenance contract. So would you rather spend $800/month with the luxury of getting your oil changed whenever you want or $400 on a car that only see's the shop once per year anyway, maybe never?

You dont have to be a car pro to avoid getting ripped off buying used. Sounds like you want a late model car anyway, they'll all be good. Just use some sound judgement. Dont buy from a shady dirt parking lot car dealer who travels around the country finding fucked up damaged cars and does some quick repair to make it drivable. The businessman who lives in a nice condo in downtown or the old lady with the brick house in the country club selling their 2015 BMW likely took care of it like any other rational person.

Parents' old beater second car just went out of service. Thinking about getting this one. Thoughts? He is an old conservative Korean dude so I thought the Genesis would be a perfect fit for him.

As far as I know the Genesis is a pretty solid car I'm thinking at this mileage still should be a decent buy. The carfax seems ok especially since it has two minor accidents (which I view as a positive).
