- Charles Rosa was expected to face promotional newcomer Dan Ige at the event. However on December 22, Rosa pulled out due to a neck injury. On January 3, Julio Arce stepped in on short notice and will face Ige.
- Arnold Allen was expected to face Enrique Barzola at the event. However, Allen was pulled from the fight on January 11 due to alleged visa issues which restricted his ability to travel. He was replaced by promotional newcomer Matt Bessette on January 11.
- Jamie Moyle was expected to face Maryna Moroz at the event. However, Moyle pulled out of the fight during the week leading up to the event citing an undisclosed injury. In turn, Promotion officials indicated that Moroz would be rescheduled for a future event.

i predict the same outcome as when stipe won vs. werdum. a short hook to the jaw while backing off.

Ngannou has better foot movement and he punches faster than Miocic. It is possible for him to slow down and get picked apart, but Miocic will have to do a good job wrestling in R1, and I don't rate his wrestling as highly as other people do.

That only worked because Werdum was literally running after Stipe the entire round. Werdum got countered and a little rocked by the same hook earlier in the round, and then he kept doing the same thing and got hit again by the same hook and knocked out.
Ngannou doesn't run forward. He walks forward and explodes when he sees an opening.

Stipe needs to pitch a nearly perfect round a half or two to drag Ngannou in deep. I think he's going to somewhat surprise and get it done. Will be exciting having Ngannou as champ though
Like Barroso, Font, and Pantoja elsewhere

Barzola with the clear win, but he didn't look as good as usual. I wonder if he had the flu that's going around.

Volkan looked good early, but he gassed out trying to go hard and wasn't able to get the finish. Once DC was able to get him down one time, the fight was over.

Damn...
The main event is worse than I thought...
The referee is allowing Stipe to stall against the fence without throwing any strikes. Just keeps saying "work, work," and not doing anything.

Easy to say that AFTER the fight, but i kinda expected this to happen.
Stipe has better cardio, better wrestling, better ground game. He's the much more well rounded athelete.
Ngannou mostly only has his insane power, but Stipe isn't known to be chinny or to get caught a lot.
So i kinda expected a scary Nganou round 1 followed by a "mark huntish" carnage for 5 rounds by Stipe.
That being said, Ngannou still has a lot of room for improvement and he's still young. He can be a champion one day maybe. He's an amazing athelete, he just needs to learn proper wrestling and ground game.
yeah. he ate all his words though. after all that talk he had nothing on stipe. NOTHING.

That's true for the last 4 rounds. But first round was kinda competitive.I think some guys might have gone to sleep after those shots Miocic took. I personally saw some terror in Stipe's eyes after he tastes the dark fist. But once Ngannou gasses he was useless.

competitive? I dont know how Ngannou survived 1st round, Stipe landed pretty much every shot and put him down twice, Ngannou jsut has a really strong chin ... Stipe is so quick for a HW and the division is pretty much cleaned out now

I disagree, yeah they aren't fight ending punches like you say, but the main reason they aren't is because you aren't allowed to strike to the back of the head... I feel like the implied awfulness of being in that position should count for something.
Hm.. Off-suite socks..

I might need to watch it again but its now how i remember first round.
SS are 16 to 15 in favor of Stipe, but i think Nganou landed some nice shots in that round.
But there is no discussion possible for the other 4 rounds, Nganou got dominated in those rounds.
Btw i'm not saying i don't give round 1 to Miocic. I do. I'm just saying i think it was a competitive round.

He landed a very big right hand right under Stipe's left eye and then he had one more really good shot, but the others were just w/e point takers, while Stipe was throwing pretty decent combos, dodging insane amount, managed to get out of any tight spot and put out a few bombs that would've probably KOd a good amount of other HWs , think the final stats for R1 was 20-17 SS in favor of Stipe. To be fair probably 90% of the damage on Stipe's face are from R1
If we compare the 1st to the other 4 then yeah, I agree that's the one round where there was competition from Ngannou, other rounds were just him surviving and hoping for a hail mary.
what's next for ngannou? werdum, cain? i think he'll lose to those two as well. his fight IQ is so so low.

he is drawing dead vs Cain bu the has out vs Werdum, but given how not even a K1 champ or a solid technical striker like Stipe can comfortably trade with him without takedown threats I think his path of training should be very clear, wrestling and more wrestling for the next few years

I don't think UFC will give him a top guy like this right away.
It makes no sense for Nganou to get a rematch with Stipe before he wins at least 2-3 more fights.
So imo, smart move for UFC is to first give him a reasonably big name, but which he should win easily.
I think if i was the UFC, i would make him face Travis Brown.
Or for the lulz, make him face Struve, since Struve beat Stipe

What if Ngannou practiced takedowns exclusively? Imagine him having and maintaining top control. I can only imagine bad things for whoever falls under the wet blanket that is Ngannou.

indeed someone his size should be more dangerous as a wrestler than a striker

I actually disagree with you guys.
Ngannou's big strenght is his insane KO power and good striking. In that fight, the main thing that held him back was his cardio and his poor TD defense.
I don't think its realistic to expect Ngannou to be the next DC. He clearly isn't that good at wrestling. But simply reaching a level where people can't abuse him with TDs like Miocic did sounds realistic to me.
If Ngannou can improve his cardio and his TD defense i think hes a real threat to the HW division.
Also, i feel like people are being result oriented. Yes Stipe won. But if they fought this same fight 100 times, i doubt Stipe wins them all. If you look at round 1, Ngannou landed some really good shots that probably would have sent most people to sleep.
People are kinda under estimating Nganou now because of how hard he got owned round 2+. But nobody expected Ngannou to win this by decision. Its pretty obvious to me Nganou was either going to get an early KO or get grinded to a UD. The later happened since Miocic's chin held up.

His cardio problems are because of his size (also his KO power comes from it).
You cannot improve his cardio if he is that big, remember Ubereem 1 round cardio? now he has cardio but because he is half his former size.
When we say he should focus on wrestling we dont mean that he will turn into DC, he is 30+ he cant get at that level ever, but to get to a level where he can control other men and force the fight where he wants it, and also take people down for GnP with his massive hands and slowdown a fight if neccesary.
