2015 PokerStars APPT Manila Main Event is running currently in the Philippines and the festival has created also some huge high-stakes cash game action according to Winfred Yu.

Yu revealed during a video interview with PokerNews, that Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, and Dan Cates are currently in Manila playing HK$20,000/$40,000/$80,000 (approx. $2,500/$5,000/$10,000) cash game. Yu added that it is probably the biggest cash game ever played in Manila area.

I'm not sure what massiveness you're referring to but he was at the very least
involved in account sharing which he abused to e.g. take tens of thousands from some single person
and then delivered one of the biggest needles in poker history: Admitted to it but offered the person he took $40k from only poker lessons as compensation.

Cates is a scumbag but luckily for himself he's good at poker so he'll still have fanboys.

Jungle might have been hustled playing 6 Plus Holdem. The Chinese billionaires are known to play this variant of NLHE.

Or maybe Jungle was really clever.

Sell half your action.

Don't play.

Tweet $5M loss.

Don't bluff the taxman, pay the tax on your $2.5M profit.

Jungle is weird enough that I'm skeptical of anything he says.

Durrrr actually looks healthy in this interview, guess he started to take care of himself considering the last few pictures of him in the net

on that podcast Doug Polk make a very good point about playing super nosebleeds on not the safest of places.

We are talking about millions of dollars you have to be trust 100% on the legitimacy of the place, dealers etc.

Yeah, cuz people never cheat in home games. Especially when massive amounts of money are at stake.

yeah I would say for that kinda money, it's probably a decent favorite that some form of collusion/shadiness is going on

I dont think so
And he didn't exactly made a point about the game itself but the environment overall I think ? That he wouldn't feel safe on an unknown place having huge sums of money cash and his private stuff etc. unprotected
Would be extremely hard to conceal shadiness in a game that huge especially when you have pros there playing as well as most of the people would be well known people in that area or in the world overall.

Yes. Very indepth analysis of the Manila games.

Some Tim Dawn rumors:

Tom was playing on a new account that used to belong to a fish and was playing 50/100+ online but the game has sort of past him by and the games were actually forming around him in tough line ups.

the second thing he said is he heard first hand tom had gotten backed to play the big games in macau which this was at a time right after black friday were the macau games were still possible to get into and according to this guy tom deliberately lost millions in these games until whoever was backing him was forced to drop him, then when they did he came back in with his own money and a permanent invite into these games owing to the whales seeing him as a big loser.

from there I'm not sure how this ends up with him being in debt and all that and this is of course 3rd hand info, but it's what I heard.

unconfirmed personal speculation:

1. the junket room hosting the game (suncity) is based out of macau and usually deals in HKD

2. most of the players usually play in macau where all the games are in HKD so their liquid BRs are in that currency

I think the people who have control over the game and it's conditions are well respected and trusted enough that everyone that comes to the game feels comfortable

still wouldn't rule out cheating but I would not say that it's a favorite to be happening

fair enough

I'm biased because I've played in live games where people tried to cheat for a lot less

Exactly this. These are insane stakes, and people by default are scumbags when it comes to money. So yeah, if I was a betting man, I'd say he got hustled. And I don't mean in the 'fair' sense.

Again, pure speculation. But that's my opinion.

they dont have a reputation to lose. my understanding is that the guys in these games, its a point of pride how much money they can throw around. if they were caught cheating, i assume theyd be ostracized from all their rich powerful friends. but yes...cheaters are everywhere and you should always be vigilant anywhere in the world when you play live.

That's what I think too. But more like hustled into playing a new game like 6 plus holdem.

Safe to say Dwan is still a boss in the poker world? You can say hes staked for sure and speculate as to what his net worth is but hes playing a ridiculous game.

Wonder what everyone's opinion is.

Jungle thinks otherwise..

I think Jungle was hustled here.

It goes back to Jungle calling out Tom Dwan to finish the hands

Jungle is so naive...
