Fuck! Machida's so good at exchanging hits. tho Weidman looks barely damaged for some reason

I dont know what a dt drop is. Is it a wrestling move? -Oly

Great fight IMO. Honestly thought it would be terrible if it went five rounds, but that got real intense there for a bit.

what do you expect from weidman? he made machida 'not do anything' for 3 rounds with his constant pressure imo. he fought great in the 1st 3 roudns and made it look easy imo that's what's impressive.

but still i always have these double feelings about machida. i'm like god he's so good when he's attacking, why doesn't do it more often, but then i think that if he opens more and gets more offensive he will likely get punched more and bla bla bla...

everytime he lost a decision in his career so far I turned the tv off with the feeling that if he was more aggressive he would've won the fight

These brazilian masters practicing yoga and the wise teachings have forgotten theyre fighting. You can't beat weidman just by waiting for him to make silly mistakes like they expect with their zen like approach. You have to expand energy and beat him up actually.

I thought Weidman was impressive. Machida losing rd. 1 and 2 of 5 round fights aren't really a surprise. And round 3 he just got caught and hurt. I was impressed with Weidman's chin. That sequence he hurt Machida with in Rd 3 actually started with Machida landing a very clean elbow to the side of Weidman's face.

Also thought Weidman looked gassed even to start round 4 before the damage. Not sure the commentators even mentioned that til later but his strikes and shoot were noticeably slower even before he got hurt. But his chin held and fortunately for him, he regained his wind somewhat between rounds. It ended up being a pretty clear 4-1 against a guy I'd still think would be a favorite over everyone else in the division

People seem to have a twisted view of the fight.

The only reason Machida's attacks were so successful in the 4th and 5th rounds were because Weidman was exhausted. He looked really slow in the 4th especially.

Machida tried to be aggressive in the first 3 rounds, but Weidman countered him well, backed him up, used better ringmen ship, and threatened with takedowns. The few times Machida was aggressive he was taken down.

Machida was simply out manuevered in the first 3 rounds. It's not like the Davis or Rampage fights where basically nothing happened for the first 2 rounds. Weidman hit him a bunch and made Machida pay when he was aggressive with counter punches, kicks, and takedowns. The only reason that didn't continue in the 4th and 5th was because Weidman was completely exhausted.

OMG that was great
I have not seen someone beat up Machida like this ever
The other guys at MW have no chance

How bout his chin too? Are we not impressed that? How bout the ability to eat a bunch of flurries from Lyoto fucking Machida in the 4th and still come back and win the 5th round aggressively. The first three rounds he was pressuring Machida and winning the counter-battle, the truth is Lyoto was just as timid about getting KO'd as Weidman, if not more so. This guy is the real deal. You don't have to buy that he's gonna be an all-timer but if you don't favor at atleast 2-1 over every other middle-weight on the planet at this moment than you'd be mistaken. This guy is $, especially if I hear he actually has a good camp which it sounds like he didn't this time, I'll bet the house on him if the odds are there. Problem is he looks like he's always gonna be injury-riddled :/

He's atleast 3-1 against everyone else at MW, maybe more.

He was 2-1 against Machida who was BY FAR his toughest match up.

Maybe Vitor could be like 2-1 dog if he wasn't off the TRT and Weidman had an interview where he said he will insist on random testing throughout camp. So Vitor's T levels will go from like 1400 or whatever they were to like 170 which they apparently were.

Hendo lost like 7-8 pounds of muscle in like 2 months coming off TRT. Vitor will not be the same fighter.

Luke Rockhold is the only legit test left, but I'd like to see him get 2 more fights under his belt before fighting Weidman. Weidman will most likely fight Vitor next, assuming Vitor can get his TRT stuff handled with the athletic commission. After that, I assume Jacare will be next. Jacare will get owned though.

Said so the first time I saw Weidman fight. The kid is special, I think he had a great game plan up until the 4th round were he just wasn't that fit anymore. I think Weidman still has issues with the weight loss, against Maia he was super dried out and few days notice..
This time it seemed like he still had issues perfecting the weight game. Mike Dolce really seems to be better at that area with his athletes and as much as I like Matt Serra / Ray Longo... Weidman might need to increase his access to great mentors by bringing better guys over. Like a nutritional system and somehow improve his endurance. Just being critical because he didn't seem as invincible as in his last 3 fights.
He has all the tools to become one of the greatest, just needs to stay hungry and keep improving.

Still think Vitor is a very dangerous fight for him, but I agree with you guys that Vitor at this point off TRT and at his age will probably just be a shadow of himself.
Sometimes it makes one wonder if someday science perfects steroids to a point were it might be ok health wise to do them.
Maybe then it makes sense to allow it, because everyone can stay in certain norms and be healthy, otherwise obviously it should be banned (just would love to see a prime Vitor vs Weidman!!).

I think it was clear Weidman was very special when he qualified for ADCC, won his first match and gave Andre Galvao all he could handle after like a year of BJJ training. That's some insane talent.

Now after about 3-4 years of training striking he's out striking guys like Anderson Silva & Machida. Shit he TKO'd hall with a left hook in his 4th fight.

Agree he should get with a legit nutritionalist to make the weight easier. Though as a side note he said in the post fight presser that it was the worst camp of his life, he pushed his recovery from knee surgery to fast and was having trouble in camp and fucked up a legiment in his hand that prevented him from even hitting pads two weeks leading into the fight, and the he didn't even hit pads in his warm up. Two weeks before the fight Longo was on Ariel Helwanis MMA hour and said they had a rough start to the camp as well.

He s just too good for his division and at this improvement rate he s going, I don't see anyone stopping him soon. I still feel somewhat butthurt that he took Silva's title, but I guess it was Silva's time to go, he s a bit old for the sport now. Even if you're training as hard as a professional athlete your reaction time would still get worse and worse by the years.

Basically another division of the UFC who's title fights will no longer intrigue me.

Yea I think Chris is the fastest learner I've ever seen in the sport. The rate at which he adds new stuff to his game is pretty staggering.

dana must hate the way the UFC is going right now. less and less rivalries and more people just crushing their divisions makes rogan's hype machine really a hardsell. They want so many PPVs with little to no buildup material left. These fights can all be done within 2 years and nobody really hates anyone here(no drama) welter is the only division with a ton of more combos

Cain vs ?
Jones vs Gus/DC
Rousey vs ?(possibly Cat Z.)
Hendricks vs Woodley,Lombard,GSP,Lawler,Macdonald
Weidman vs Belfort/Rockhold
Aldo vs Pettis superfight
TJ beat Barao, but is not an as a draw as the UFC would like since this belongs in the midget borderline

wut, Silva was more dominant than Weidman in reign and so was GSP, dominant champions attract people but they need to build their brand first it takes time.

Also Rousey has 2 dangerous opponents but Dana wont sign them Chris Cyborg and Holly Holm

mike dolce is a scam artist FWIW. guy is uneducated and just spouts nonsense.

"what do you usually have for breakfast?" "egg white sausage and a bunch of veggies" "GET RID OF THAT CRAP FOR A BUNCH OF CARBS IN A BOWL"

"GETS THE BLOOD PUMPING, GETS THE BRAIN TURNED ON"

"CAVEMEN USED TO EAT CHIA SEEDS"

its a joke. he has no clue what hes doing. hes definitely a pretty great motivator, but hes delusional and uneducated
