Not strictly poker related, but this blew all over internet - one of the most popular Twitch.tv streamers, Chance “Sodapoppin” Morris, played online blackjack earlier this week, using a betting site that features live dealers. In the very last hand of his betting spree he decided to place a maximum bet of $5,000, going with a simple "all-in or nothing".
The stream was peaking at around 45,000 viewers when the key hand happened and ended the stream shortly after it was over. It's been a real roller-coaster for Sodapoppin, who's been playing live blackjack for last 2 weeks on Twitch.tv - his streaming numbers went up by huge margin during that time, to the point his stream single-handedly put Blackjack as the top 3 most popular game watched on Twitch.tv during his streaming sessions. However, we are not sure if that will still compensate all the cash he lost. Hopefully Morris learned his lesson and won't be trying to win the money back playing Blackjack.
Watch the video here (the mentioned hand starts at 2:10 mark):

i don't think he cares or mind, he's free-rolling. He's probably the one, or one of the people who's made the most money on twitch, remember a few years ago he reached 5k subs, and rumours was that he was banking 25k monthly of streaming with donations, sometimes much more. And has one of the sickest twitch deals. He's rolling in dough xD

think it's just an act, a good one, but an act. Why act like that, when one viewer have given him over 100.000 dollar in donation lol, and he'll make it back within a week of streaming lol
ofc he is acting... i mean for all the twitch streamers "reality TV" is basically the role model and how much of these reality shows are faked? 100%!
they make up stories and stuff all the time to get more viewers
not for me to judge how others want to spend their money, but holy crap. Here I was thinking i would need to be paid to watch this kind of thing. different strokes indeed

son of oil baron theory fits occam's razor i suppose. though is it at all plausible the guy is actually a twitch marketing stunt? The story seems to have made waves in mainstream media, not bad for expenditure in the low 6 figures.

It gets pretty crazy when it's new expansions of wow, he's a Waracraft Hero or something, rly good to lol.
He would basically just sit, and comment and thank, or make jokes, every few seconds, struggling to keep up with all the donations and sub, just sitting there saying thanks and eat my dick for hours on end everyday!!
Sometimes they'd do these sub trains, where he'd get 50 subs in 20 minutes n stuff, common occurence lol

Hate the game not the player. If it was that easy to make money streaming on twitch everyone would be doing it. I've tried commentating myself playing games and poker and it really does become quite hard, you end up repeating yourself or saying nonsensical things

There is actually a South Park episode that deals with live commenting streams that kids do. An example is a new Call of Duty came out, and Kyle's little brother wanted to just sit like a vegetable and watch somebody stream and comment about playing the new game when Kyle just bought the game.
I think its a huge fad, at least I hope it is. It is kind of interesting for like a week. I mean how fucked up are kids getting when playing a game like WoW is called not participating in life, but then it turns into them just sitting there watching somebody stream playing WoW for hours ! Fucking crazy.

well the rumors are that the high donations were faked, and other streamers were also in it and faked donations which gained them popularity and curious people would tune into their streams wondering who these guys were and how they got such high donations.

yeah iam quite certain that most super high money donations are faked.. just recently i watched summit1g (CSGO player) streaming some h1z1 (basically because i wanted to get an impression of h1z1) and some1 donated him 20k and he went crazy about it. little later that guy donated anohter 10k and kept donating at least 5 figures. summit got him in teamspeak and he said he is a pokerplayer from nl and that this is not a lot of money for him. after several days he was messaged that the donations were blocked by paypal for security reasons and he actually never got the money. summit talked back to the dutch guy and he said something that there are problems with moving that amount of money from his bank account (which is a super lol excuse.. you can easily move money in between bank accounts/paypal/e-wallets in europe. at least for some lower 5 figures maybe you will run into higher security checks when you reach the 6 figures).

You guys are just a little too harsh on the idea of streaming, lol. It's entertainment.. as simple as that. The more entertaining a broadcaster is the larger audience and successful they'll become. The donations these guys get are pretty crazy tho imo. Also if you're interested in a particular game (especially competitively) you are able to watch and learn from some of the best players if you check out their stream.

its same shit as watching grown men kick a ball aound for two hours while 75 year old dudes comment on their play.

also, what makes live content entrainement (twitch/youtube/streaming site) more apealing then conventional media is the direct interaction (chat) you have with the broadcaster. it might seem trivial, but it's the main reason twitch has such strong and loyal ($$$) following, and main reason why conventional media is trying hard to integrate social media on their programming; because they know the key is the interaction of the viewer with the content.
