yeah and sometimes a J too, anyway i stood pat and he had J9xxx and said he discarded a T so i got lucky lol

Just thinking aloud... if he calls pre and discards one, then it's a good assumption his 4 remaining cards are < J. So we can assign him about (4x3) for pairing + (3x4) for Q+ = 24 cards that put him behind us. Which is as good as half the deck, so standing pat is about break even. Considering a jack is likely to kill him too and everything points towards it being breakeven at very worst; hence I'd stand it.

edit: I guess this is the info for which position is really important.
