why did you c/c turn and river?

Turn's probably a bet but I had this guy tagged as a decent regular and we are super deep. Given how I structure my flop cbet range I think my range here is pretty narrow on this board so I thought checking turn to protect my check range and looking to bet river was a better play vs betting turn and probably forcing shove on the river which i'm not thrilled about this deep. As played, donking river makes no sense after check/calling turn and something just felt weird about the river shove so I called anyway and wasn't expecting KK.
