If his 3-bet is 12% why not 4-bet? Unless you never 4-bet AK I suppose...

Also, agree with raising the flop here. Unless you have a very specific read suggesting you should do otherwise. Especially good to raise if he's paying off with JX/QQ etc.

I believe hes calling to keep the fish in the pot. Check shipping the flop and check calling are both fine. If turn goes check check he can ship most rivers anyways.
