The physics of it look like he should be walking forward with the way his heel is postured on the ground, I am not reall sure how he reverses so smoothly

The back foot holds the weight on the toes and the front foot slides back.

doing a reasonable/decent moonwalk isn't hard after a little practice, but to really monster it and get huge strides like that is real tough + the upper body flair is another sort of thing you have to play with and get right. i can do it decent.

the foot on its toe is the one propelling you backwards when you moonwalk
