PRES. OBAMA’S REPORT CARD ON MEDICAL CANNABIS

http://americansforsafeaccess.org/downloads/Obama_Report_Card.pdf

Here's one area where I feel that Obama has failed. I know those of you who don't use cannabis probably scoff and say "big deal, focus on a real issue". But considering the patients who have been harassed and persecuted because of Obama's policies, I think it's a legit issue.

Obama's inability to keep his word on such an easy to fulfill promise makes me doubt his other initiatives. The common excuse for why Obama doesn't follow through on a promise is the roadblocks put up by the Republicans and the gridlocked political system in the USA. But here we have a situation where Obama has the power to direct his people to follow certain guidelines, and punish them if they don't. He did the first part and directed the Justice Department to leave medical marijuana alone, but they have not followed that order and Obama does nothing about it. To me that looks like he's trying to have it both ways - look good to the public by taking the right stand, but still persecute medical marijuana patients and look good to the drug warriors.

As you all know I worked my ass off to get him elected. I still think I did the right thing, as he's overall better than McCain would have been. But at this point he's lost my vote and support. Sadly I will probably have no choice but to hold my nose and vote for him in 2012 because the only other choice will be the absolutely insane options that the GOP offers. Such is life in the great old USA.

If one of the insane GOP runners said they would legalize marijuana, would you vote for them?

Aren't there more important issues than whether or not you can get high legally?

There is no point in spending billions or however much they spend on locking up marijuana smokers, people will just do it anyway and they are creating an illegal market which causes more serious crimes.

It is the wrong mindset to vote for the 'lesser evil' to prevent the republican candidate or whatever nothing will change that way. Ron Paul is the only candidate that isn't just a prostitute for the scum that really makes the decisions behind the scenes, but because of that he will never get elected as you know the house always wins. I saw through Obama and all his empty rhetoric right from the start his words were too sweet and it was obvious he was just making people feel good with the best propaganda campaign ever seen.

I think in general it's just very difficult to get anything done in American politics. I mean the republicans even held up the bill for rape victims for ages. This is just how things work in the USA. It's a shitty political system and that's why the late George Carlin had his whole rant about why he doesn't vote and why that means he's the only one who gets to complain. Until you Americans get off your ass and protest en masse dare I say it... the way the French do... you will never see any changes.

Politics in the USA will be bought and paid for by the big companies. The parties with both pander to their base and use scare tactics to make them afraid to vote for the wrong party. It's not much different in Canada really except that we have a few more parties to choose from so we hear more than just one or two points of view on most issues. That and we quite often have votes on conscience on major issues which allow MP's to vote how they truly feel rather than with any party politics affiliation.

the scum that make the real decisions are the general public as well. Im sure if 90% of america wanted weed legalised then obama would fistpump double chairspin campaign on getting it legalised.

I'm glad you said "..double chairspin campaign on getting it legalised." instead of "he'd legalize it" like many americans seem to think the government works..

Yes, which is exactly why getting high legally is so important. Let me explain - we're in a huge budget crisis, ridiculous debt, etc. Legalizing cannabis would generate billions in tax revenue and reduce billions in wasted drug war dollars. That's tens of billions of dollars that can go to things like drug abuse treatment, drug abuse prevention, schools, national parks, health care, etc. Things that we're currently cutting money away from could be funded by people getting high. The crazy thing is that those people are getting high right now and will continue to get high no matter how many times you tell them not to, as his been the tradition in human history. So we can either make it illegal and spend shitloads of money on arresting the criminals we create, or we can legalize it and use the revenue to repair our communities and improve the standard of living for everybody. Then no more lives need to be ruined by a criminal record just because a little weed was found. Research on medical uses of cannabis would explode and new treatments would be found. People could grow their own medicine and save money on health care costs. I can go on. There's a lot of good that comes from fixing this issue, it's not just about getting high.
