You may recall last Wednesday when we pointed out this incredible paragraph on the website of the National Cancer Institute at cancer.gov, on their general information about medical cannabis, touting its antitumoral effects:

In the practice of integrative oncology, the health care provider may recommend medicinal Cannabis not only for symptom management but also for its possible direct antitumor effect. |
NCI apparently got a talking to from someone, because now that page has been scrubbed of any reference to the direct antitumoral effects of cannabis:

I don't see how this is really politics owning science here. The article is essentially just reworded in case people misunderstand the article. First article notes the potential of these benefits from cannabis. Which in other words, not proven. The reworded article makes a strong note on "no relevant surveys of practice patterns exist". Because it's so easy for people to read the first article and go, "oh, I heard that cannabis does this and that". No, cannabis as a potential to do "this" and "that".
Unless I am failing to comprehend the content of the article, I'm pretty sure nothing's wrong here. |
