Hi there. I spoke to your brother, TeamLiquid, he said you were a pretty cool guy. I'll try to be brief because I don't really have anything to add to LP, oh well...

Basically what I'm wondering is, how do I poker? I'd narrow it down a lot more if I could but I don't know anything about playing poker for the sake of increasing my bankroll rather than just fun. I just want to be not just another fish, you know?

I've tried to gather as much information as I can on my own but quite frankly I'm lost. I think I've gathered the basics, BRM, play TAG so that I don't do anything stupid and so on.

So I guess I'll just start firing questions: Which site and what offer? I've heard I might as well start unlocking some poker software, so which one?

What do I play? I've heard everything is good and everything is bad, but for a beginner, what do I start playing? I think MTTs are too high variance, right? As for personal pref. I guess I like SnG's more but anything goes really.

I probably have a lot more questions but I feel like I'm intruding so I'll bother you guys later.

good news is youre euro, so you have the freedom to choose any site you want.

Its really a matter of preference for which site you play. Get a rakeback deal at the rooms that offer them. Full Tilt offers rakeback (and first time deposit bonus) and has a heap of traffic, but you can also get a better rakeback deal at one of the smaller euro rooms.

There are also a couple of small non-deposit bonus's available on the smaller networks which you might wanna make use of.

Dont play MTTs straight off the bat, SnGs are pretty good for learning the game, but eventually youll want to migrate to MTT or Cash if you want to make better money. Playing micro stakes cash is also good.

Again, the game you choose comes down to variance, at this stage you can experiment with different game types and see which you perfer, or just mix it up if that means you play better day-to-day. Just make sure you stick to decent BRM and dont get frustrated.

I'm with Byrnesame meaning don't start off with MTTs.

I'd recommend playing cash games to start off with.

Log a decent sample size at low stake cash games to make sure your guns are hitting their targets, and move up accordingly. In between sessions mark hands you need help with, and asks people their POVs on situations, and also think about your game wholly.

I can't speak about SNGs as that's not my arena. There are a lot of other players that do SNGs on this site however.

Seems like you already got a decent grasp on Poker seeing that you have BRM and state your a TAG. Hopefully with some time you'll be able to hone your game continually and be able to rape whatever limit you decide to play at.

Deposit like $25 and play .01/.02 cash games to start. Move up from there imo.

Do you buy in 40bbs if you play with $25? Or do you just go like "if I lose it I'll just deposit again" and fuck brm?

It's NL 2 so its easier to sustain a super high win rate and make variance less of a problem

Hi guys, thanks for all of the advice, time to stop sucking now!

When I started I still had no idea at all tbh, so nl2 was quite annoying for a while. You're not gonna start off being able to exploit people to the max and get sick winrates unless you really read and understand a lot of strategy stuff straight away. Took me a while before I could put it into practice at all in all honesty. I used $1 bi till $40 roll (from $20) then just bought in for max (on FTP that is so $2).

That's a good point, how much should I buy in to the tables with? Currently just rolling with min. amount.

Oh and I really like the pokerstrategy Elephant for keeping track of progress and BB/100, however it's only a trial. It claims I'll get to keep most features after trial ends, anyone happen to know which features I lose?

Speaking of BB/100, obviously the higher the better but at what point have I "beat" my limit? And what kind of a sample size do I need? IDK, probably stupid questions and I should be playing until I have enough bankroll to move up anyways.

So while I'm asking questions anyway, HUD Y/N?

I think the general consensus is that thinking and improving players have a tendency to move up before they've played enough hands to determine their winrate at a given microstake. So just keep playing strong and sensible and it should just all fall into place. Don't worry too much about what you exact winrate is for now, microstakes is for learning the game and building a br not making money (in the grand scheme of things, obviously you want to make money but so long as you are going up that's all that matters for now).

Meh, done for the day. 1200 hands, 6bb/100, sigh. I was doing great but the cards didn't like me towards the end of the session. Ran straight into a flush (pun intended lolol), 2 pair into a set, 2 pair into a straight. Yesterday overpair into a set twice in a row as well (lower pocket pair).

Oh well it's all good.

I found this (http://www.firsttimepokerplayer.com/online-poker/rake/low-stakes/ ), in summary i'm better off playing pokerstars 'til 25nl, then get a rakeback deal on FTP or cake. Could be all lies, looks like a classic affiliate site. Thoughts?

6bb/100 is totally fine and a great winrate tbh. Btw I think that page is old or wrong, because I know that this USED to be the case, however if you just check on http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/room/rake/ you can see that the fact that pots under $1 are now raked on stars changed the rake considerably, which is something that the website you referenced is using (says so under the 1st graph) to decide that it is better to play there.

I think now with rakeback on ftp but 1 in 15 taken against no rakeback and 1 in 20 on stars it pretty much makes no difference any more.

May as well update. Day 2: 1500 hands, +22bb/100. It feels like I have a decent leg-up on the competition and so far I've only taken losses to myself. As long as I'm able to convince myself that this isn't the time to get involved with a pot when I'm not 100% sure I have the best hand or at least favorable odds.

Oh and I just found out you can buy some baller-ass hats from stars with FPP. That's obviously going to be my first goal and priority from now on.
