My first tell

Back when I was playing live NL200 earlier this week I stumbled across my first real exploitable tell. On 4 separate occasions I had villains betting like $12 into $80 pots. Now I assumed this was partly because they dont really keep track of the pot size so they're just firing out some minuscule bet based on the strength of their hand because it makes them feel good.

And then I was like fuck that. I made what would be my normal river value bet of like $60, and they folded. I really began paying attention to their bet sizes on every street, and noticed all too often they were simply making really inappropriate bets, usually half pot or less. I never noticed this before because when I'm in a pot it's because I raised, and therefore they all just call and "check to the raiser". So I just started raising any bet postflop regardless of my hand if I deemed it "unworthy". $30 pot and you bet $7? Raise. And just like that I stole it every time.

Sample size is like 10 hands but I feel good about this. My only concern goes back to what I first mentioned, that they arent really paying attention to the pot size, therefore their betsize has little to do with it. But seriously, when theres a mountain of red chips you should be able to fucking guesstimate whats in there, theres no excuse for these ridiculously small bets they keep making.

This is what you should have focused on when playing online Saibot... How to play tight solid poker and exploit retarded fish with obvious leaks and imbalanced ranges, not having a trillion billion theories justifying you being a degenerate when it comes to gambling.

And just one thing.. you can't categorize small bet=weak, as you said some people value bet nuts like that because thats what they do.
In fact when I think about it there was this live old dude that would NEVER raise preflop, and he vbet 1k tourney chip all streets with AK turned/rivered into fullhouse, because thats how he always plays nuts.

The basis of poker unless you're a sicko that beats everyone is to learn how to exploit the fish, guess their thinking process and apply it to their lines/bet sizing. You as a huge loser should focus just on that, play game with super solid ranges, play 2 hands per hour when you play live, but when you do play a hand you will know how each villains sees poker based on table talk and pots that you observed, and you will value bet/bluff the shit out of them.

lol don't listen to generalizations. tells are always person specific. the more you practice picking up and focusing and looking for em, the better you'll get. Just like with everything else.

Hell i stack my chips up tall and neat just so i can shove it in easier

Stop trying to trick Newb with misinformation, you know the chip stacking thing is a proven FACT. Except at 25NL, no1 gives off tells at 25NL

I think a big problem for me is I dont know how to exploit a lot of obvious leaks.

Hand from the other night:

Hero T8s in CO, limp
BB checks
Flop 894r
BB checks
Hero bets
BB calls
Turn 894A
BB checks
Hero checks (villain could have a fucking NINE right?)
River 8943J
BB leads out for 3/4 pot

My observation of him is that he's loose, but not retarded fishy loose. He's pretty active in pots, betting or raising, but I dont quite know when. I've seen him raise his straddle after getting 5 callers with 7To. So he's aggressive at unnecessary times imo, since theres like 0% chance that will ever work.

Clear up your own leaks (big ones) before you worry about exploiting others

Well what do you suggest I do, just fold? The hand seems to have enough value to warrant playing, but vs a bunch of calling stations raising preflop just seems spewy. These guys dont pay attention, so it's not like I have to worry about being exploited by limping my weak hands.

ignore yougotgot's last post, clearing your own leaks is the same as exploiting villain's leaks.. as long as you are thinking and learn to make proper judgements

ok so in that particular hand here is what I would be thinking:

It looks like the hand was folded to you in the CO, THIS is a clear raise. You can definitely limp here if there is someone in the pot ahead of you, though.

Not raising here stinks. You want to try to get a heads up pot, because its easier to get an idea of your equity and figure out range, especially when you have the betting lead in position (most likely situation in this spot).

Anyway, the hand isn't ruined after you limp so lets continue..

On the flop you are presumably heads up with the bb. Betting this flop is great, A+. You are looking to take control of the hand, and on top of that it is a clear valuebet vs his range (especially since his range is ATC in the bb).

On the turn, I think a check is solid. Your hand is hurt a lot vs his range on the turn, since fish love to call flops with Ahi. Your kicker isn't amazing on your 8, and 9's make a reasonable part of his range now that he called flop.

River isn't a very interesting situation; except for the part where the turn card transformed into a 3 from an A. Which completely changes the turn and river action... Assuming the board was actually 894AJ though...

River lead here can be a lot of things, BUT I think its a fold. His valuerange is crushing you, and he can have a TON of aces because like I said fish call Ahi on flops. He's going to choose to check down almost everytime with all of the range that you beat. I think with some kind of reads you may be able to make this call.

Hope this helps.. the thing you really need to focus on is the thought I put on behind each action, not this particular hand.
