Alright so many of you know I have had quite a rocky history when it comes to poker. I have had many ups and far more downs. About 1.5 years ago I kind of emerged from the rock bottom state. At that point in time I started reading tons doing meditation etc. After about 6 months I finally thought I was strong enough to give poker another try. I quickly discovered that the game had changed majorly. I no longer felt like I was the best player at 50 and 100nl like I used to. I ran really bad but never went broke. In fact I slowly grinded up a decent bankroll. Then I lost a 2k bodyfat loss bet with a friend and then my car died on me so I had to buy a new one. I was left with about 450$ online and felt so sick and depressed about it that I couldn't even log on to grind. Around this time I just started playing Starcraft 2 hardcore to get my mind off poker and eventually got to 10th in diamond.

I finally decided I definitely wasn't going to make any money off of starcraft 2. So I decided to make the commitment to really grind poker hard. I began playing 25nl rush and ran it up to 1200. Then I played 50nl rush and ran that up to 1650. Then about 3 days ago I won like 11 buyins at 50nl and decided to move up and take shots at 100nl. That went extremely well. I then moved up and took shots at 200nl rush and ran like jesus basically (although still under ev). Then I decided to take a shot at 400nl rush 2 tabling. Ran insanely good like 40bb/100 over like 3k hands.

When all was said and done I am now sitting on the biggest bankroll I have had in over 3 years. Im getting this ridiculously scared feeling now because I have been trapped in the micros for so long. Now that I have a very secure bankroll for 100 and 200nl I am beginning to wonder if I currently have the skill to beat these games for a decent winrate.

Back in 2005-2007 I used to crush 100-200nl so hard. But now those games play way way stronger than 5/10 and 10/20 used to at that time. My style of plays is good enough to win at 50nl for like 3-4bb100 without a doubt. And im sure I can beat 100nl. But 200nl and up im not so sure that I would be better than break even at this point in time.

I think its time to be brutally honest with myself. I am going to have to seriously work on my game and apply myself to get better and be able to move into the midstakes.

I am really interested in hiring a coach to help plug my many leaks. I would like the coach to be a huge winner at 100-400nl. I have never been coached before so I am not sure what to expect. A lot of people that I have spoken to seem to think its worth it. If anyone has any recommendations I am def interested.

Imo being confident about your game is very important, you shouldnt be scared when you play. So get a coach.

Well its not that im scared... im def not scared to play poker. I have played way over a million hands lifetime... The reason im feeling overwhelmed is that I have ran bad for so long and then all of a sudden in 3 days I have been hit with the deck and my head is spinning. My game has kind of adopted the microstakes autopilot style and I am really concerned about this.

You def hit on one good point though. I am certainly not confident in my game 200nl and higher. Probably because I havent actually played 200nl as my regular game since 2006.

Just play when ur winning, take hold the second you feel off ur game, or start losing. Start posting hands, studying more then is often the right approach I've felt.

When you're winning, play play play, the second ur not, put in more study time, analyze, and plugging, till you stop losing, then go at it again I think is a good way to go about poker.

coaching ( from a good coach)drastically reduces learning time. save yourself the months of mindfuck when you start to lose and just go get a good coach while your mind is in a good place and have the money to pay for one. dont wait imo. gl

While you're on a bit of a heater, dont fret now that you're at midstakes. Man I wish I had just stayed put at NL200-NL400 so many times. I always outleveled myself too and would either cash out tons, or do something stupid and sit down at 5/10 out of boredom. I think you've dipped your toes in midstakes water long enough that you are ready to stay there, even if you dont have an edge on the player pool. Look, you're not terrible right? You're not some random donk who ran up 3BI's in a week to get there are you? If not, just stay. Imagine it like winning the lottery, you arent used to it yet, but nothing has really changed, you're still the same person/player.

bye now

I def have no desire to be playing 5/10 anytime soon. I think my current poker dream is to be a 5bb100 winner at 2/4. My tilt control is actually really good now (unless im in a tourney, in which case im a basket case). I certainly wont ever put myself in a position to go broke again. I haven't busted my roll since march 2009.
