So i've taken a hiatus from the poker life and focused now on working to save up a bankroll. I've been doing delivery for Pizzeta, an Italian restaurant and so far since April 6th I've earned about $500 including working on the weekend doing casino night for an entertainment company and not including 2 more weekly paychecks that are owed to me for another $300-400. The job isn't bad and i don't mind taking a break from poker.
I've still been playing online mtt's on full tilt in my free time so between all of this i plan on just saving up a solid roll.
That's something i've never done before and in the past i've always built my bankroll from taking shots with a couple hundred bucks at 1-2 nl. I like this new approach as I know within me that once I have a solid 10k or even 5k bankroll that I will most likely never go broke again. I thought to myself, what would it be like if i just worked for 6 or 9 months and didn't play poker and just saved every dollar. I've been having poker dreams of what it would be like to have a solid bankroll and be able to play 5/10 and 10/20nl and learn with the game.
I think that's why it was necessary for me to take a break from school and to put in those hours at the 1-2 and 2-5 tables, just so i can prove to myself whether or not this is for me. Even though i went bust, all that time and all those hands did not go to waste. They hold real intangible value.
In the past though, working for me has been like pulling teeth. Mostly because the jobs were awful and i was miserable but with this new goal in mind i think it will give me the motivation i need to actually make this happen.
I guess we'll see in the days to come.

dude everyone here who plays poker started small and gradually moved up stakes when they had proved themselves as a winner and the skill level is incrementally higher.
u r a real degenerate... no better than a drug addict. plz stop. ur harming yourself and others. pay off ALL your debts then deposit a small amount online and work your way up properly playing 1c/2c
ur the type of person my mother fears me becoming. the people we r told about in schools and media |

lol @ playing 5/10 and 10/20 and only then begin really "learning"
be grateful you have a decent paying job that you enjoy, just stick to that and don't play poker especially with these aspirations. |

everyone is totally right that you should probably start lower. nonetheless i think this is super entertaining and as long as the potential of losing either doesn't bother you or doesn't occur to you, i really like living vicariously through people taking shots. i'm a big fan and i really think that degenerates are generally mistreated here on lp |

Ty failsafe. Well i guess its clear what type of people post on this site. Out of 10 posts there's been 1 with constructive criticism? everyone else seems to enjoy getting off at telling others that they're going to fail even though you people really have no idea. I think itll be intersting to look back at this and see how many ppl's opinons may have changed.
The second thing is: it's only degen if you lose. Since i'm up overall then i don't see how its degenerate. What people don't understand is that playing poker for your living is one of the hardest things to do. If it were easy, everyone would be doing it and doing it successfully. This isn't just a hobby to me, it's a way of life. I think most of the people who commented on here are truly delusional to how good they think they are compared to reality.
Anyways i could care less about the people that try to bring me to their level. I see it as them truly having a sickness in that they actually get pleasure in putting other people down. No one truly knows what i'm capable of except for me but again it should be fun to see how things turn out.

Unenergized. With a plan like that. You will fail. Its not like we are trolling/bashing you. Its just you played probably more then the average novice but from your other blog its quite obvious you have Bankroll problems so I think starting lower and building up is the only way to combat this problem. No proof reading for this post. Hope it doesn't sound like a 2 year old wrote it. GOGOO |

Something you people do not understand is that taking shots is necessary. Since for live the smallest game is 1/2 the only way you'll be able to move up is to take shots. I've been playing 1-2 since i was 19 years old and took off 1.5 years from school just to play poker so how have i not put in more hours than a novice? Do you have any idea what you are talking about before you post this? I've paid for my bills and credit cards through poker. I've lived my life at my own pace through playing cards. I know i can always rely on 1-2 to build my bankroll but to be honest that game live is tough to grind. You're not learning anything from it if you know more than you're avg ABC poker. Everyone's standards for gambling and taking shots are different, maybe i only need 5 buy-ins of 2-5 before i feel comfortable taking a shot there. The key is to leave yourself with enough cash to be able to move down to the game that you can originally build from and keep taking shots at bigger games until that game becomes your standard game for building.
In the past it would get to the point where i'd actually need to start at 2-5 regardless if i only have 400 or 500 bucks because i would buy in for 250-300 and it would force me to not play every hand and choose my spots. In 1-2 i would be playing bad since i'm not interested in the competition. For me poker is purely about competition and i try not to think about the money when its in play. |

lol unreal. Are you a troll?
Taking shots with 5 buyins? First of all, it's hard to be within your comfort level and not play scared money with this few buy-ins. Second, it seems as though you don't know what a downswing is. Hell, losing 5 buyins isn't even a down swing.
You say you want to start learning with the game by jumping into 5/10 and 10/20. Sorry but I just can't see the logic in that. If you want to learn how to swim, do you jump in the deep end? No, you'll die. You want to jump into bigger games to learn? You will go bust. Especially with five buy ins.
I don't know if you're talking about 5/10 and 10/20 live or online. Live will be softer as it always is, but will still play different than the 1/2 you're used to. If you make the jump from 1/2 to 5/10 online, you will get destroyed, period.
I know you think everyone here is laughing at you, but although that may hurt your feelings they all have a point. Anybody who takes poker seriously will be able to tell you that no matter how good you are, you are just setting yourself up for failure without proper bankroll management. It is the most important thing for any poker player.
All I can advise is learn from others' mistakes and rethink your strategy, because countless people have taken the path you want to embark on and have failed miserably one after another. |
