So I managed to get a roll started from 10bux that some guy gave me as a thanks for giving him something, thank you, you know who you are.

Anyway I started off grinding NL2 at the start of this month and guess i got lucky the first 3 days then after a big loss i started to play a bit different and it felt a LOT stronger and managed to move up to nl5 playing like this and reach nl10, winning nl2+5 at 11ptbb/100 average. Now I am struggling at nl10, it plays a lot differently to nl2/5, I think I found a major leak - Not winning enough without showdown... Heres my graph, i dont think it looks right

It seems as if I'm just playing for showdown so i'm obviously going to have to try and change my play somehow.

Heres my stats which will probably be helpful for anyone willing to give me some advice on improving my game at nl10.

These are all 3-4 tabling.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I really want to improve my game and be able to beat nl10.

Yeah it looks like you might be a bit weak postflop. Are you cbing enough? That should be sufficient at NL10.

Oh and $10 is a bit cheap, it barely pays for the vaseline.

Researchers used brain scans to show that when straight men looked at pictures of women in bikinis, areas of the brain that normally light up in anticipation of using tools, like spanners and screwdrivers, were activated.

i played next to you on a nl10 table the other day and i think you were calling too many raised pots out of position and either giving up too easily after the flop or only waiting til you hit flops, you could probably cbet more.

also probably try to loosen up a bit, especially in the co/btn, play more suited connectors aggressively.

that being said ~10k hands isnt a huge sample size, a breakeven stretch over that amount of hands isnt a huge issue, just keep trying to put in volume and keep concentrated on playing to the best of your ability dude

im cbing whenever the board is dry/paired and whenever i have a hand

but i only cbet the flop when its dry and paired then i give up on the turn, is this the leak?

you should be cbetting a ton of flops and double barreling scare cards on the turn
open up in the BTN/CO, under 20 attempt to steal is way too low

raising any 2 when folded to in the button is valid strategy? obviously aslong as the sb/bb dont have super high vpip?

jase   Australia. May 12 2008 07:03. Posts 1604

not any 2, depends on blinds

A good rule of thumb is "anything that looks pretty"; ie, all kinds of hands that can flop something. We're talking things like 85o+

Ehh, 85o is just gonan get him into trouble.

First in OTB:
- Any ace
- Any suited king or queen
- Any suited connector, one gapper or two gapper
- Any connector 45+

You can raise things like K5o too but uhm I don't think you need to do that. You can raise even more than listed above but maybe start off slowly :C

In the cut-off I would tighten up a lot with the off-suit aces because if the button is loose, like most NL10 players, you'll often end up 3 way OOP with A5o which sucks ;(
I guess something like
KTo+, QTo+ and A9o+ would be ok from CO, still raising all the suited connectors tho.

It really depends a lot on the blinds and the button tho, if the blinds are never gonna call, open any two. If the blinds will call a lot then check fold when they miss, open very wide. When they get annoying and 3bet you or insist on just never folding the flop ever/are just annoying in general, then tighten up. Same thing if you are in the CO and the button is loose and/or annoying, raise less.

Hm.. Off-suite socks..Last edit: 12/05/2008 07:34

While you certainly should try to get your won $ w/o showdown and attempt to steal up a bit, don't stress too much about the fact that your showdown winnings are higher or your attempt to steal is too low. The average player at NL10 is a lot more loose/passive than in tougher games, and in games full of calling stations it's not surprising that a lot of your profits come from valuetowning them at showdown. In tighter games your won $ w/o showdown and attempt to steal should be a lot higher, but raising junk and getting multiple callers or getting yourself into bad spots barreling air against calling stations isn't going to make you money. Experiment and try these things out but don't feel like you *have* to do them.

The so-called "perfect stats" can't possibly apply to all games, poker is all about adjusting. Personally I've had great success to NL100 and have never had an attempt to steal at or above 30%. Loosening up and barreling more postflop are important to learn, but as TianYuan said take it slow. The reason you're at microstakes is that you're still learning the fundamentals, and attempting to shoehorn a lot of new and tricky stuff into your game to get your stats up to where they "should be" will probably cause fancy play syndrome faster than it actually helps your game.
