So yesterday I basically woke up, went to the Wynn poker room and played til I dropped. I sat down at a juicy 2-5 table but couldnt get anything started. Then I moved over to my good friend Ann's table (Poker Pro Ann!) who is regular at the Wynn, and probably one of the better live pros I know. She plays some pretty sick 24+ hour sessions on a regular basis. My luck started picking up at her table as I raised A3s in the cut-off and the wreckless button called. Now before I explain the hand, let me tell you guys what I know: Ann is a thinking player who plays more off of instincts than off of the math. With that said, I know she is capable of huge hero calls, as well as some wacky plays. So Ann called from the big blind and the flop came 2-4-5. Ann leads $45, and I flat call in hopes the button goes psycho. The button folded, and the turn came a 9. Ann checked, and I bet $100. Ann didnt take very long and called. River is a 10, and Ann checked again. I thought about it for a little bit, then shoved for $350. That immediately got a weird look from Ann, as she reaches into her stack and counts out $350. I got the super stare down for the next 5 mins, as she kept asking me questions and saying things like "I think I'm going to make a donkey call" just to see my reaction. I just sat there silently for the most part as she continued to think about it. Then she asked "Will you show your cards if I fold?" I should have just said nothing, but for some reason I had to open my fucking big mouth and say something retarded along the lines of "I dont know whats the correct answer to that question." Way to give it away JonnyCosMo you fucking moron... she doesn't take too long after and ends up folding. To make matters worse, I decide to be the nice guy and show her the A3. Smart one... Later on we talked and she told me she tossed QQ. I play so bad, how do I not stack an overpair there, zomg.
I end up making like $500 in that first session, and took a break to get something to eat and walk around. Lyric and Daut came from the $2500 6-max WSOP event and told me they both busted so we all went to the buffet at the Wynn w/ Pavel. After we ate we all went back to the poker room to play. A young kid sat to my right at the new 2-5 table I was at and was obviously an internet player. So I asked what his ID was on PokerStars and he told me he was GoGator86 (a NL200 regular who I use to play against) so that was cool. We talked a lot about the games online, and I noticed he was being the most active player at the table preflop. Raises and repopping people left and right. So I'm $700 deep and he covers at this point when a loose player raises in MP to $25 and he reraises right behind him to $75. I look down to see AKo... I figured I could just fold... but this might be a good spot to try that 4 bet over the top squeeze. So I make it $250. Everyone folds as does the original raiser, back to GoGator86, who takes like 10 seconds and then says "Reraise all-in". Ugg... fuck me. So I call and hate myself when I see his AA. Flop came a K, but turn and river brick off and I lose that $1400 pot to put me back to even on the day. Shit. I play 2 hours more after that and couldnt get much working so I went back to my room around midnight and just crashed.
Woke up this morning at 11:30 and decided to play the $330 tournament at the Wynn. They start you off w/ 5000 in tournament chips with really slow blind levels starting at 25/50 and moving up every 45 mins. So 20 mins into the tournament I pick up AQo, folded to the cut-off he raises to 150, I reraise to 550, he calls. Flop comes A-K-3 all hearts, he checks, I look and see I have the Qh, so I check (apparently a mistake). Turn comes Kc, he bets 700 so I smooth call. River is the As and he insta shoves his last 4000 into the pot. I'm like "Whaa.... ok I hope we chop." and call. He taps the table and is like "I thought you had nothing" as he mucked his cards. Thanks for the gift sir. So I'm up to 10k, build up to 12k over the next hour. Then right before the 1st break, at 75/150 the utg player (10k stack) raises to 600, folded to me in the big blind and I look to see KK. I make it 1600. UTG player looks at me and insta raises to 6000. So I insta re-shove all-in and he insta calls and shows me AA. Bam, board bricks off for me and I'm down to 2k in chips. We take a 15 min break, I come back and on my 2nd hand I find AA on the button. UTG limps, folded around to me, I make it 1200 at 100/200 blinds. One of the blinds calls, and the utg calls. Flop comes Q-2-3 rainbow. Check check to me, so I put my last 800 in obv. The blind tanks for a while then puts in a call. The limper reshoves all-in, and the blind folds. Limper has 33, gg JonnyCosMo.
Poker sucks lol.

gotta get used to the tough days live, you have alot less hands to play which makes the quality so much more important
Pretty sure you have to shove the AA there PF (10xbb at 100/200) or raise smaller so you can leave your opponents less than 2/1 on the flop to call, like make it 800 PF and shove 1200 into the 1900 pot, alot of opponents will drop draws w/ that. You can't really assume you'll be outflopped like this in the future, playing a single pair on 7 streets is way more dangerous than out of 5 cards.
tournaments aren't like cash in raising, although im sure you know that,
you gotta raise your high premium hands a little less since you need maximum value for each hand, preferably 3x bb at a tight table, 3.5x bb in LP behind limpers
at a loose table 3.5x bb in EP - 4x bb in LP
I'm sure you'll do really well in the future, bring a set amount to the casino each time you go and take your time, always remember that you're going to be there for a long time, theres no reason to ever get crazy & play with too much on any given day.
Also, you brought $6,000, don't worry about the $700 pot you dropped, its totally understandable, but always remember these tournaments become luckfests for most, dropping 5% of what you brought into one tournament where your chances to win are less than 10% does not seem smart.
Manage your roll to the best of your potential and stay very patient on the cash tables.
You KNOW most live players can not fold when they have the 2nd best hand, which is what makes live play so lucrative and sweet, capitalize on that, and don't try any fancy plays you wouldn't normally do at a FR table, while taking their image into consideration is important, reraising reraisers is dangerous business unless your 100% sure that he is reraising light.
GL Jonny, u know I got mad respect for what your doin, and I'm not tryin to tell you what to do. I have tons of experience in live cash games (500+ hrs), and have taken alot of trips to Atlantic City and my hometown casino, and feel that my advice is worthwhile which is why its posted.
With that being said, I wish you the best of luck and know you have the ability to grind these tables dooooooooown. Take your time and play long, pick on the bad players and win thousands.
