a lot of the time if im wait-listed for my local nl holdem game i'll play limit holdem or limit plo hi lo. the stakes for these games range from 3/6-4/8 with kill pots that increase the blinds 50% for the following hand. I was just wondering if that even if the player pool is the baddest of the bad, with a 4$ rake is the game slightly winnable or should you expect to be just losing money slowly over time with these limit games?

I think you beat the rake by hitting the BBJ at your table. |

Live 4/8 Limit hold'em is definitely beatable for around minimum waige.. maybe a little higher. 3/6 and 4/8 Limit omaha hi/lo is probably not beatable because it would be hard to beat the rake with all the split pots. You could probably beat those stakes in Vegas for a small amount (If they ran) because they have really good rake structures for limit games in a lot of places. |

This is about right. Its nearly impossible for a live NL winner to be a loser in a 4/8 game, so if your options are play or sit and wait you might as well play. That said I'm even skeptical of 1 BB winrates at live 4/8. Rake is truly brutal and the game plays slowly. It would be like making 8 BB/100 online. I think a more realistic winrate is 1/2 BB per hour live. Which, accounting for slower play and double rake, is like 4 BB/100 online. |
