How do I go about learning a new language? Any good sites out there that make it easy? thinking of learning Portuguese, since I have family living in Portugal - not sure if it's a difficult language to learn.. any advice would be appreciated

No idea how it works in Canada, but in Poland there is a ton of language schools. They are fairly cheap (around ~500$ for half a year) and pretty efficient, as you learn from a native speaker in small groups.

I don't think learning through use of internet can provide anywhere near the results of going to normal classes.

lol. Is there a big difference between european portuguese and brazilian portuguese? do they understand eachother well?

like I said - I'd rather learn the european variant, because family lives there. + i'd like to stay there awhile, the azores look beautiful

yea they understand each other well but accent/pronunciation is very different and so are a bunch of words and expressions, id say its a slightly bigger difference than the one between american english and english spoken in wales or scotland ? Not sure how accurate that comparison is tho

Brazil has like 50 different places that are just as gorgeous as the azores (not very fair to compare the 2 countries given the size difference tho)
Portugal is great too and country's totally busto so everything's cheap. Good food/quite nice people in general. Decent country to be based in.

I tried learning Korean before online, then when I moved here I realized I couldn't say anything very well... pronunciation etc... was god awful.

I'm trying to unlearn all I learned before and I'm now studying Korean here in addition to going to university classes.

i've been taking spanish at my university for the past 2 months (never spoke a word previously). it's pretty fun, sometimes i feel like i could be learning most of the material just as efficiently with the textbook on my own, but i guess it's pretty useful having someone there who is fluent to correct you on the spot when you say something wrong. i think private tutoring would be the best option if that's feasible for you.

I guess it would be too difficult learning the language, considering there's not much language classes around me.. better off just waiting until I do some travelling.
