Since some of you have never played live poker or aren't much experienced with it, in case you ever wanna try it I present to you some pointers that I've learned through experience by playing live for the past 3 or 4 years.

- Learn how to look at your cards correctly, you don't know how easy it is to see the hole cards of the guy next to you if they don't know how to look at them properly, try to lean your body towards the cards if possible and conceal as much as possible. This mostly happens to either very very newb live players or old guys, if it's an old guy please be kind enough to tell him you can see his hole cards!, one time is enough.

- When in doubt always ask for the floor manager. Sometimes dealers think they know the rules, but some of them have no clue and you might get screwed.

- I find that it's much better to always announce whatever your action is going to be. When you wanna raise to 200 you are better off just saying so. There's been some instances where I didn't raise as much as I wanted because I fucked up with the chips. Also saves some time with misunderstandings.

- Always double check your cards before throwing them away! It's not frecuent but it has happened to me at least twice that I folded a much better hand than what I thought I had. Can't say how tilty that is.

- Try to follow the action but if you are distracted for whatever reason and find a hand you wanna play first look at the players before you to see if someone limped or raised. It's the worst feeling when the guy that always open limps only AA/KK limped and you raise/fold with your AQs.

- Always be on the look out if you are new to the poker room. Remember everyone is there to win money and some people will do whatever it takes to get an advantage, no matter if it's within the rules or a gray area, you aren't as well protected as when playing online on pokerstars. That said have fun, you can get to know some really cool people there as well.

- Whatever you do don't be the grumpy onliner that always complains when someone makes a bad play and boasts about how much better he is than everyone else at the casino. Try to be social and stuff, it's even +EV to do it, who knows, you might get a free showdown or a friendly warning just because someone likes you.

- Don't lend money to people you don't know! Even if they seem like they are super rich and gamble very big, if you don't know them outside the casino it's a no-no. Some(most) people are just terrible at paying back loans even if they got the money and it's just not worth it.

- Be weary of people trying to look at your hole cards and signaling his/her friend, it DOES happen, if someone is right behind you the whole time and you feel uncomfortable just say so.

Will try to think of more, if you got any feel free to add!

thanks for the advice! First time I played live, guy to my right definitely saw my hole cards on at least one occasion. I had a buddy shortly thereafter warn me to lean in and make sure to keep them covered up.

NeillyJQ: I really wanted to prove to myself I could beat NL200, I did over a small sample, and believe Ill be crushing there in the future.

This is so true. Once I had a guy tell me "if you do that again you'll lose your stack. I have the coconuts" I got a free river to make my boat, I didnt, saved myself rest of my stack.

Im only good at poker when I run good

The friendly warning is SOOOOOOOO TRUE! I flopped a set and bet flop/turn to get raised on the river.

Was thinking to amke the call since I was getting like 3.5:1 when he said, "Just throw it away, I got it."

I said, "Yeah?"

He showed 76 for rivered straight, and I mucked. Saved $200, good advice!

Any advice or stories about people getting robbed after leaving the casino?

I posted in another thread that I wanted to go to the local casino eventually, (which is Bay 101 in San Jose, California), but, I would be going by myself and don't feel comfortable leaving a casino with money I won, even if it was only $100 profit.

Bay 101 is a casino near the San Jose airport, which is not a bad area, but, being in a good area doesn't mean you wont get robbed.

Cool tips, ty. One critique.

I see, and understand the value of always declaring, speaking your actions. But I don't think that's the case if you're not speaking the language being used as your primary language.

When playing in Italy, it was weird, each time I tried talking it was like everyone payed real close attention, and wasn't 100% sure I was pronouncing it correctly, and felt I kept saying it a little too loud or a little too low. Had some discussions about it with my Norwegian mates, and we concluded it seem to go a lot better when we just threw the ships in gently, without too much ruckus.

Any thoughts?

Oh, it felt like they were much more inclined to fold, after I had spoken in a loud manner. And they seem to talk more each time we declared stuff, and did some pointing with the fingers. So we cut that shit out and it stopped.

Yeah, playing in a foreign country where you don't speak the language well enough kinda sucks, happened to me in Brazil. You miss out on some info and kinda feels more like playing online. I'm pretty sure no one can read what you have or don't have by the way you speak out if you can keep your cool, and if they folded more that's a good thing right?

I got robbed at knife point for about 1k. Thankfully no injuries. Not really sure of a counter measure for this, but I think in general it is mostly safe. I did hear about some sketchy scum bags, following a 5/10 regular to his house and having a shoot out.

Be aware of light angleshooting. Where I play a lot of regs act out of turn in obvious spots trying to manipulate players into checking, or just frequently lie about their hands, which is what we all sorta do anyway, but they are very vocal about it, getting into long drawn out speeches about what they do or dont have.

Make sure to check your own cards every now and then if you're an amateur. A few weeks ago I bluffed off a stack because I somehow convinced myself I had trips when I had nothing.

bye now

Also always protect your cards by holding them or putting a chip on them.

The other day I was in a 1k pot and bet out on the turn 3 way. Middle guy throws his cards all pissed and one of them hits my cards. The dealer tried to declare my hand dead and give the pot to the 3rd player. Luckily though I called floor and he reversed the decision because the card that hit my hand was face up when it hit my cards.

Had it been face down though they would of declared my hand dead.

I've played at worse casinos and have never had a problem. As long as you're not flashing it you're likely fine. Casinos have more security than banks, they're generally pretty safe. If you wonder around off their property then you might get in trouble

lol happened to me last night. Guy raised a couple limpers and I mucked what I thought was 45o. After mucking I realized that it might of been 55. Checked muck after and confirmed it was 55.

Flop came k95 and dude got it in with AA vs K9

I would of won about 4 buyins in that hand. It was monstrously tilting lol.

So another tip, don't play tired.
