Got the 3 red flashing lights. Gay as fuck. After some googling, its most likely a heating issue. Thing is, I rarely play the xbox for long periods of time, and mainly just play DVDs on it and link to my PC with media center to watch d/led movies lol.
Loaded up Tomb Raider game as I was bored, and after starting a new game, xbox just crashed, froze (black screen). Restarted and for the RROD. Did all the usual unplug let it cool etc and after a few restarts it worked, untill i started a game again.
Googled how to get the "hidden error codes", but for whatever reason mine doesnt seem to show them. Its meant to show 4 digit number, but mine varies from 10-20 digits of all 4 lights flashing. So really dunno.
Anyone had the problem before? Anyone self fix it? My xbox is out of warranty I believe, its about 4 year old. Anyone experience taking one apart, if so, was it difficult easy etc?

For serious, it's dead
Only way to resolve the problem is to send it in to microsoft to get a new one. If your xbox is under three years old microsoft will repair the issue at no cost to you, including covering the shipping costs (at least that's what they did for my xbox). Anything after 3 years you'll have to pay for repairs. If you have the money, you might as well take this as an opportunity to upgrade to the newest and best xbox verison. Otherwise, send it in and pay for the repairs.
Searching their website for where to go can be a huge hassle. Maybe emailing their support would be a good idea if you can't find anything. |

i've had 2 xbox 360s get the 3 ring of death...both were under warranty thx to them being first gen so it occured during the whole microsoft pr shitfest...my first xbox 360 i put on the shelf, hooked it up, played 5 mins of madden, went to school, came back 8 hrs later just to see the ring of death.
would def just upgrade to a new xbox
since it's toasted and repairs r usually something like $150..coudl just get some cheap thermal compound and follow some guide on takin apart ur 360 to see if u can fix it urself since it's just going to the scrap heap anyway |

Yeah no way am I gonna pay someone to fix it. Most likely gonna open it up and try fix it myself. Just wondered how difficult it is. These consoles are designed so its hard to tamper with them lol. |

I replaced the x clamps on my brother's xbox and it worked for like a month before the rrod came back. People actually buy broken ones though; I sold it on craigslist for 20 bucks. If you want to try and fix it there are a million guides on the internet. |

yeah fixing it is VERY temporary will last about 2 weeks before going completley down, if you can fix it you should sell it to some random person while it still works, and use the money to get a new one |
