HOLLA NL5 CRUSHED! by Sanai, October 13

Woo hoo It took me 21,456 hands and 20 days, but I have hit $204.10 on Stars and feel ready to tackle NL10. It was really tough going for me at first, but after a while it just felt like the game broke WIDE open and I was steadily winning 2+ BIs a session for the last 10k hands or so.

Wish me luck guys! And any advice for NL10 6-max on PS would be greatly appreciated of course!

runnning good by JYang, October 13

so i stopped playing poker and start trading stocks. so far been running pretty good. still reading lots of materials trying to improve but since im pretty bored i started active trading anyway. so far been running pretty good.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/0fa4f3a8773baa3c37aba0d5ca12e538.jpg

that was when the Fed announced a 700B bailout. i was extremely bearish and betting a lot on high flyin growth cyclical consumer stocks will go down. turns out that it worked but i got rid of it pretty fast, but i cant complain on a 4300$ profit. i was gettin abit bullish as the stocks seem to be at a extremely oversold level

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/b3042a190b66100636b38d209d28bb73.jpg

my current positions, surprisingly it closed at exactly 13.37$

im 100% long this week

----------

probably making this my trading blog. since a lot of other traders have blogs. im pretty new and been reading a ton. i stopped playin poker .

its like the times when i feel that i cant wait to see the market open and how my strategy is working out.

so far i been a pretty big luckbox but i'll keep this updated.

i'm trading on a 5 day time frame i dont think buy and hold is any good at all. im really bullish this week but long term im still very bearish.

----

more: i guess i'll provide links to people who would like to at least learn a bit about this. (coming soon)
-im not really qualified to write anything, and ppl prolly dont want to read any educational thing i write anyway.
-i guess i'll link stuff that i find interesting and cool.

Liars about Ayers (polls) by k2o4, October 13

So Politifact.com went after McCain's ridiculous smear campaign about Ayers and tore it to shreds. At the same time, we find out that Sarah Palin abused her authority in the troopergate scandal. Take into account the way she refused to testify and had her staff stonwalling the courts, you get the building blocks of Cheney junior.

Anyway, about Ayers Politifact wrote:

Not a radical group, and Ayers didn't run it
Pants on fire!

For most of the election, Sen. John McCain's campaign has been somewhat subtle about trying to tie Sen. Barack Obama to the former '60s radical William Ayers.

No longer. A 90-second Web ad released Oct. 8, 2008, features sinister music, side-by-side photographs of Obama and Ayers, and a series of dubious allegations about their past connections, including this one:

"Ayers and Obama ran a radical education foundation together."

Ayers was a founding member of the militant Vietnam-era anti-war group the Weathermen. He was investigated for his role in a series of domestic bombings, but the charges were dropped in 1974 due to prosecutorial misconduct. He is now an education professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and actively engaged in the city's civic life.

The McCain campaign said the "radical education foundation" to which they were referring is the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a charity endowed by publishing magnate Walter Annenberg that funded public-school programs in Chicago from 1995 to 2001.

We'll look at whether the foundation was radical. But first we have to grapple with whether Obama and Ayers ran it.

More here.

Of course, when you look at the polls it's no surprise that they're in "all smear all the time" mode, inciting their supporters to call Obama a "terrorist" and say "kill him!" at McPalin rallies.

Latest Gallup: Notice McCain started to recover on Saturday and then took a nose dive on Sunday, lolz

Last 2 days from Real Clear Politics.com.... not seeing any red in there!
http://premium1.uploadit.org/IAElitesquad//polls-10-13.jpg

And here are the projections from 538.com, with Obama at landslide figures in the electoral college and a huge win %
http://premium1.uploadit.org/IAElitesquad//538-projections-10-13.jpg

Last we have the electoral map and projection from pollster.com which is more reserved than 538.com yet still with 320 EV's for Obama
http://premium1.uploadit.org/IAElitesquad//pollstermap-10-13.jpg

We're in the final sprint. This week is the last debate (Wed). Then it's 2 weeks till election day. The last 3 weeks of an election are the most important time. Many campaigns have come into this point with a lead and lost it. The challenge ahead of McCain is huge, but it's not impossible. If you're an Obama supporter like me, then get off your ass and go volunteer. Even if you're super lazy, at least sign up to volunteer over the last 4 days which are the most crucial of them all. And if you're uber crazy super lazy, sign up to volunteer on election day to help turn out the vote. Obv you should already have voted early. I have =)

Think about it - would you rather sit at home and just hope that this lead holds and we win, or take action to make sure it happens? Imagine how you'd feel if on Nov 4th you saw McCain win and you realized that if you'd gotten off your ass you could have helped make a difference. As reassuring as these polls are, I am even more eager to get out there and work on this campaign, to make sure that if we do lose I know I did all I could. And honestly, my goal is to try and create a huge landslide. Biggest in history. Let's do it!

Go to http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/statepages and find your state and on the right hand side of your state page, find your local office. Get involved. It's actually pretty fun, the people are nice and they usually have good food and conversation. Remember, Obama is all about 'hope' but he doesn't want Americans to sit around 'hoping' things get better. He wants to inspire the hope so that we will take action, because when you lose hope you don't bother to try and make a change. There are lots of us taking action right now but we need more help, so come join us! Get out of your house for a bit, you're a poker player, you need to see sunlight on occasion!

Busted. by RaiZ, October 13

Yeah again.
Can't win on pstars even after 3 years of pokering. Can't get past the nl2 limit, how ridiculous is that ?
I'm so sick. I'm so tired. And all those videos without subs are just killing me. Because i'm deaf and i really wanted to give it a try since online poker doesn't need any sound right ?
God i'm so depressed because online poker was one of the rare game i could get money from but seems like i just suck period.

So it's a farewell.
Bye.

tilt asdf by vlseph, October 12

I just lost about 5+ (I won a couple during the session but my net was -5) buy-ins at NL20 in one session. I haven't lost this much before and felt so completely and utterly defeated.

Strong overpairs facing random sets in 3b pots so many times.
Lost a couple gay hands to some random ass fish calling 3bs with like 59 and other random shit flopping two pair everytime. He's been shoving on top/medium pair like a donkey and he got the best of me everytime.

Ugh, so tilted. Guess my mistake was playing with like 5 super virgin tight nerds and shit.

Cathartic blog.

EDIT: Out of 137 players in Tournament 3217708 (PLO $1500 GTD $5R+A), you came in 7th and have won $66.85.

Final hand: (warning not in pretty format)+ Show Spoiler +

So I signed up for the $5 R+A PLO $1500 GTD tournament cause I was still in mad tilt and swore off ring games the rest of the night and I suck at Omaha. 3 rebuys and 1 addon later, I found myself sitting at the final table.
I'm really happy that I was aggressive and stole lots of pots and got it in with good hands instead of giving up like my older self.
I think my last hand's equity was probably better than villains seeing as we shared most cards, with mine being better. Oh well, once I get it in I can't control the outcome of the cards. First place was like $400+, that could've helped my bankroll out a lot, but I'm still happy with my finish.

[ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED] BEATING NL50 by failsafe, October 12

I have no idea what represents victory for other lp.nettians, but my first serious poker goal has been realized today. It almost goes without saying that I'm still quite bad, but it is probably STILL worth saying just to save time in the long run. Like with most things, the more I learn, the more I feel ignorant. I've nothing else to do, and so I'm typing up a time line of my poker learning experience. I'm curious how others learn, and of course I'd love if anyone interested in teaching/coaching were to take an interest in helping me. I also enjoy talking about poker and would really like to make some acquaintances both above and below my level. If anyone's interested PM me and here's a summary of my own poker =]

Time line
- [HIGH SCHOOL (~5+ years ago)] Some weekends of playing for fun

- [EARLY UNIVERSITY (3 years ago)] Two years wanting to play poker, putting some money on a site and getting frustrated within a couple weeks after a couple days of bad luck. This period leaves a LOT to be regretted. I had pretty much FREE unlimited access to Myth, Midian, ApocPLZ, and MezPLZ via AIM but never prioritized poker so while Myth left NL100, Midian left NL50, ApocPLZ left life for WoW, and Mez went from a 25k roll to winning like half a million in a month... I pretty much played 0 serious poker and never progressed at all. Obviously any practical person who's interested in poker would say that this is a sick waste of ultra valuable resources, and of course they'd be right. In an economic sense, I've forfeited like $200+/hr coaching, and probably even better as there's probably more understanding to gain from studying alongside other people who are learning than from being coached by someone who already knows. But on a completely subjective level I really regret not having an opportunity to get to know those four guys a lot better, especially Mez and Myth who seem like awesome people but whom I didn't get to know well at all.

- [THIS SUMMER] This 4th of July in China I had a weird experience where my friends and I decided to party quite hard. I inadvertently took a combination of E and Meth that left me awake for an extra twenty-four hours. After realizing, scared as hell, that I was losing most of my ties with reality (I took quite a bit too much because of a misunderstanding; language barrier, etc.), I ended up returning home and freezing myself out for a few hours to calm down. For whatever reason I decided to log on to lp.net little over a day rabidly studied pretty much every major/interesting hand discussion on lp. This is not a recommended way to understand poker, but for me it worked wonders. Before this experience I was absolutely horrible at poker. I was pretty much a robotic level zero or level one thinker who suffered from robotic play intermingled with a bunch of misconceptions. And worst of all I didn't understand the logic underlying poker, so I had no means of extricating myself aside from trying to piece together other people's strategies and plays into a misleading playbook.
Anyway, as I was reading, I began to understand poker in an entirely different sense. About nine months ago, Myth described poker to me as a game where the only thing required to win was a particular logic. This sounds completely cliche, but as I read some post by Rekrul in midstakes (probably the single informative post he made all year) and some mathematical analysis of a CTS blog that Myth had worked up, I began to see exactly what Myth meant by the logic comment (at the time he said it, the comment was bewildering and frustrating, so I remembered it). Consequently I began to see what was required in order to develop a logic for understanding poker and then the plays necessary to execute it.

- [MID-AUGUST] I got back in the states, and it was a heart-breaking experience. I've lived in semi-rural Alabama my whole life (worst place ever in my estimation), and my experience in Kunming was my first semi-long term living experience anywhere else. Needless to say China is QUITE different from what I was used to - Kunming is a VERY awesome place =] - and it was a soul-rape to come back. It was quite crushing how EMPTY everything here is. It's spatially empty because there's just SO MUCH SPACE and so many fewer people. But more so this place is absolutely void of the sense of bewilderment, interest, and purpose that I felt everywhere in China. Coming home was my most bittersweet experience, because I was resigning myself to one final year at a mediocre university where almost all other students and I have nothing in common; a town I've lived in my entire life that holds no interest for me; and an environment that I once felt so comfortable in and yet on returning, I felt so completely apart from. At the same time I was seeing my family and friends again, and it's easy to feel like there shouldn't be much more to life than that.

- [LATE AUGUST] I finally began playing poker. I ran hotter than the sun for a while, then about neutral and finally had another solar flare before plunging into a 20k hand doomswitch the likes of which I'd never imagined during my previous dabbling with the game. The doomswitch-period was exacerbated by some pain killers for a carpal tunnel surgery and an unhealthy urge to just build a BR by 18-tabling NL25 for rakeback and a marginal winrate. To end the doomswitch and the soulrape that was 18-tabling, I finally took about a week off and resolved to come back and 4-table NL50. Since then I've been playing 4-6 tables of NL50 on FTP thanks to Myth for helping me shift some money.

- [LATE-SEPTEMEBER] So 4-6 tables of NL50 is what I've done for the last few weeks, and it's been much better for my soul, not to mention my poker play. AND! I've achieved my first sincere poker goal =]

Of course I've had some help from new/previous poker contacts, and I feel like I should shout out to them for absolutely no reason at all. So thanks soyukkusenman, crownroyal, myth, k2o4, vegable and mayzerg, who i've just recently met

Anyone else who's interested in poker and wants to talk or review hands, my AIM is JeffH578 and my MSN is jeff.haynes@hotmail.com or PM me =]

Best time for sports... by LandLord, October 12

Man right now pro sports is in full swing. We got the nfl in full swing, nhl <3 and the mlb playoffs. Always something on tv to keep the entertainment going.

Im pretty into the MLB playoffs right now. Im rooting for Tampa Bay to take it down just because they really have come a looooooong way lol. I mean look at games they had a few years ago... next to no body in the stands because they were just so terrible but now they are selling out and playing the best baseball the club has seen in years. Good for them. Evan Longoria really is a freak. He is just a force at the plate. Dont get me wrong this is quite the series right now. Boston is not a force to be messed with. Even though they slipped in the wild card spot this year they have as good of a chance as anyone else does. What a game they had last night though. Cant wait to see how this series ends.

My hockey team is doing alright this year... Were in second right now but only 2 games back on Delhi. This is my thrid year playing for the St. George Dukes. We got fucked last year in the Semis because our coach was an idiot. We should have won the whole league. We had a super stacked team but just couldnt get it together and really got out coached hence why they canned his ass this year. This year we are definitly not as good as we were last year... kind of a rebuilding year because we lost a lot of veterans and our top 4 scorers. Good thing is that every team is in the same situation as us and none of the teams are even as close to as good as they were last year which is nice. I thought it was going to be a really long year because we blew a game to the worst team in the league but it was only exhibition and we have gotten a lot better since then and are really coming together as a team... might need to make a few changes here and there but we can definitly make a strong run this year.

I havent really played much poker in the last few days. Been busy with work/hockey/getting hammered but Im off for a couple of days so I think im going to pull a really nice gring over these few days. Hopefully I can go on a sick heater and make some nice money. Im not really looking to move up in stakes right now because Im making enough money to pay my bills/drinking money etc and then have my income for work going as well. Gonna play prolly atleast 50k more hands before I move up. Wanna have a really nice roll going becuase Ive been guilty of playing under rolled before and its cost me a lot and now I know better.

Anyways gonna go burn a fatty and watch the baseball/football games. Hope all you fellow Canadians had a good Thanksgiving, I know I did.

MBS

So many upsets today in the NFL too holy shit. I surprisingly only managed to get three picks wrong for my pool at work. Im prettyh sure everyone got those pics wrong too though. First big one was the Dallas game... I had a hunch Arizona might pull one out of there ass this week and sure enough they did but oh well and I mean... no one is going to take Atlanta over Chicago and the Washington game fucked me too but I think Im still in good shape. Hopefully I can take it down, I heard the winner is getting something like $400 which is the highest its been since Ive been there.

Day 1 WPT by Fayth, October 12

Well I'm still in... with 20k stack (starting stacks were 30k) I was really cold decked the whole day, didn't flop a single set, had 2 high pocket pairs (TT and KK and KK flopped an A 3 way) really didn't hit much but managed to pull out a few 2 barrel bluffs, 3bet lights went kind of fine......

the only hand I think I made a mistake was when I raised EP with Q9s, online tourney player flat mid position, everyone else folds, flop comes 9c7c4h, i c-bet 1650 into like 2800, he shoved for 9k more... blinds were 200/400, I had 40k stack and he had like 12k total... figured he might be on a draw or w/e and even if I lost I wouldn't be in such bad shape.... I kind of leveled myself into making a bad call... so I called and he had AA lolz

So day2 is tomorow, blinds will be 400/800, so I'll have 25 big blinds, I'll try to play my best and hope I get better cards than yesterday xD!

as for my friends from quebec, takechip busted the hand before the last hand with AA vs KQ ai pf and DrGiggy(FTP) busted too shoving 77 on 568 flop for 50bb and other guy called with J8 :/

I have 5% on rockstar who has 34k stack and 40% on poker_john who will start day2 with 39k

Well wish me luck!
Cheers! :D

For Cap - Debate 2 by k2o4, October 12

Sorry to those who were hoping for a post debate blog by me. I didn't do one cause... well... there wasn't THAT much to talk about. They both said the same stuff that I've heard a million times and McCain failed to do anything special to pull ahead. Overall Obama won all the focus groups again and he got a little bump in the polls, but considering how far ahead he is it's hard to get much further without eating into the Republican base. But if McCain keeps it up Obama could very well do that, as a strong McCain supporter told my mom yesterday when we were canvassing that he was gonna vote for McCain as long as "he keeps his mouth shut, cause every time he speaks I like him less".

Anyway, there were SOME highlights, so let's get to those. First the funniest, which was McCain's "lost old man" wandering of the stage, which was heavily mocked everywhere:

Now onto some substance. First off, if you missed it, again I suggest watching it on MSNBC's Politics Page cause they have a great vid player there. Just click the link and then scroll down to the debate box. Next here's a bunch of short reviews of the debate (in spoiler if you're interested)
+ Show Spoiler +

The theme of McCain being disrespectful and blatantly showing his dislike for Obama continued in this debate. There are 2 moments that stuck out. One is at the end when McCain totally dodges shaking Obama's hand as Wolf Blitzer talks about McCain's "disdain" for Obama:

And the other moment came when McCain was talking about an energy bill and he referred to Obama in a very dismissive way... watch:

Now some people are trying to spin that as racist. I don't think it was. I just think it's McCain being an old dude and annoyed by a young "liberal" who's kicking his ass. But it's funny cause earlier in the debate there was a question from a young black voter about the economy and McCain said "I bet you never heard of fannie or freddie before now" (or something like that). The questioner was actually in law school and HAD heard of them. Hell I've heard of them, that's how I got one of my student loans. But McCain wasn't scoring points with people with these comments.

Obama's best moments of the night came when talking about Iraq and healthcare. He flipped McCain's "You don't understand" line from the first debate around and pwned JohnnyMac: (watch the graph at bottom to see the reaction of undecided voters)

Then he had the better answer on health care, at least in my opinion and in the opinion of the undecided voter focus groups. The question was about how the candidates saw healthcare to be, whether it was a right, or a responsibility or a priveledge. McCain said it was a responsibility, while Obama said it was a right:

Again, the graph's spike. Woot.

I guess the biggest news coming outta the debate was that McCain proposed another 300 BILLION in spending to have the Govt buy up bad mortgages and then renegotiate the price to allow people to stay in their homes. He made a big deal about how this was "My plan, not Obama's". This backfired bigtime. First off, Obama had pushed for something similar to be in the bailout bill but so far the Govt hasn't put it into action. Second this is exactly the type of thing that conservatives hate. Third, and most importantly, his plan is to buy the bad mortgages at the ORIGINAL PRICE, not the current one. This means that we'd be OVERPAYING for these mortgages and giving the banks even more bailout money. This leaves the loss on us, the taxpayers. The only way his idea makes any sense is if the Govt buys at the LOW CURRENT PRICE. In McCain's proposal taxpayers burden the loss and banks walk away 100% saved. It's a plan to save the banks, not the American people.

Lastly, let's end with a fact check from FactCheck.org:

* McCain proposed to write down the amount owed by over-mortgaged homeowners and claimed the idea as his own: “It’s my proposal, it's not Sen. Obama's proposal, it's not President Bush's proposal.” But the idea isn’t new. Obama had endorsed something similar two weeks earlier, and authority for the treasury secretary to grant such relief was included in the recently passed $700 billion financial rescue package.

Update, Oct. 12: The day after the debate the McCain campaign released additional details of the mortgage plan, which Obama aides said made it a new idea, and a bad one in their view.

* Both candidates oversimplified the causes of the financial crisis. McCain blamed it on Democrats who resisted tighter regulation of federal mortgage agencies. Obama blamed it on financial deregulation backed by Republicans. We find both are right, with plenty of blame left over for others, from home buyers to the chairman of the Federal Reserve.

* Obama said his health care plan would lower insurance premiums by up to $2,500 a year. Experts we’ve consulted see little evidence such savings would materialize.

* McCain misstated his own health care plan, saying he’d give a $5,000 tax credit to “every American” His plan actually would provide only $2,500 per individual, or $5,000 for couples and families. He also misstated Obama’s health care plan, claiming it would levy fines on “small businesses” that fail to provide health insurance. Actually, Obama’s plan exempts “small businesses.”

* McCain lamented that the U.S. was forced to “withdraw in humiliation” from Somalia in 1994, but he failed to note that he once proposed to cut off funding for troops to force a faster withdrawal.

* Obama said, “I favor nuclear power.” That’s a stronger statement than we've heard him make before. As recently as last December, he said, “I am not a nuclear energy proponent.”

* McCain claimed “1.3 million people in America make their living off eBay.” Actually, only 724,000 persons in the U.S. have income from eBay, and only some of them rely on it as their primary source.

Alright, hope that's good enough for ya Cap =)

Casino visit by remember87, October 12

Yesterday me, my dad and some friends went to the casino i Stockholm. I must say its always nice to come there and play. This was my third visit and there will be plenty more! The atmosphere is great, most of the dealers are nice and professional and the people are nice chatting with around the table.
We arived there around 6.30pm and I ended up on a table away from the others. We all played 20/20 with a maximum BI of 2k (SEK) Unfortunately I came to a table that was pretty tight. I could raise to 140 utg and get the blinds! That is somewhat strange. Last time I was there, standard was to raise 180 and get atleast 5 calls! But after an hour of play or something the play loosened up and they didnt have the nuts everytime I tried to play a pot.
I must say most of the players are pretty hugh fish. Guess the level of play is like NL50 online. Some worse... So the value is great!

Most fun of the day came after 3h when a player, who according to rumors played higher stakes, joined the table. You can say he created action! His goal was to raise raise and raise. He made up goals like: I will win the next 8 out of 10 hands! When he raise he got like 6-7 calls. He got away with some hugh bluffs and got some decent hands too so he made 1k into 7k the first 20 minutes. Then his "luck" started to run out a little. He called (!) a players AI for 2k with 43s. He was like a real roller coaster with hugh ups and downs. He sat immedately to my right so I was hoping to hit some hands and get a lot of value out of him. But I only got one hand where I had KdQx on Ts Qd Jd 5d and potbeted AI and he folded 9s3s. Guess if I had bet 1/2 the pot he would call but since I couldnt put him on a hand at all I decided to get it over with and hope he called with some random hand... I guess I was a little tilted too after I lost a hand where I had QQ versus QJ on QT6

The last hour I made a questionable play against the most decent player at the table. He had raised a lot, made some squeezeplayes and he was capable to 3bet light pre and bluff a lot post. He rarely showed up a good hand.
One guy limped EP, I made it 160 in late pos with 99, FI 3bet on the CO to 400 and both the limper and I called. Flop Q73r and it was checked to FI who bet 300 into the 1200 pot. Limper folded. I hadnt seen him bet that little with hands like TPTK before so I ruled out AQ and also KQ since I think he would call that pre. So left was all pocketpairs and random CB hands. I decided to put him AI for 1400 more. He thought for a while and then called with JJ. It was a good call but I am not shure it was a terrible raise from my part either.. but I am not shure... any ideas?

I ended 900 down on my play, but since I staked one of my friends and he won 6k I ended up.. So I am happy. Think I have won like 20k or something these three visits!

Time to write an essay for school and then just chill the rest of the day!
Cheers!

lol sets by vlseph, October 12

I quit FLHE cause it was too boring and too much variance with everyone in the pot having their two pair draws.

Back to NL20, things are looking pretty good, have a 100k Stars Million Dollar Men tournament freeroll on 3 PM Sunday, hope I ship something nice.

I also love AA/KK min 3betting and I just snap set mine to stack them. Yay!!!
Sets are so profitable I think I should just spend all day doing nothing but set mining for like 12 hours.

$370 of bonus still uncleared from Cake.

Also took this bad beat today against stupid fish villain who pot pot pots every street with like any pair. Once turn came I was like OMG THX GOD and was dancing as I shoved river:
http://cakepoker.com//HandHistory/?Hand=xcLBxMTFxcDNx8TExMPMxYjDxMHExsU%3d

If you can't see it, I had KJ.
FML like 400BB pot. I was waiting all day to stack this idiot.
I threw away another stack to him next hand from instatilt and ran away from my laptop to go walk my fat dog around the neighborhood. Oh well, bankroll is way up from steady grinding/playing through the rest of the day. (By grinding I mean waiting for set and stacking noobs.)

I also placed 39th in the $1+.10 CakePoker Kamikaze tournament.
It's new and in beta where you buy-in, and the ante is like 1 million so everyone is just all in every hand until someone wins.
I won one hand and shipped like $2.69 OMG!!!
Also entered some CakePoker Omaha $5k FPP freeroll and went busto after shoving top two against bottom set.

Midterms and birthday also coming up this month, along with I believe two more MDM Stars $100k FPP freerolls and two $5k CakePoker FPP freerolls, along with one $5k RTR freeroll. (+$1k freeroll via satellite)

EDIT: OMG I FINALLY WON A TOURNAMENT. I JUST SHIPPED IT (see: ticket) IN A FREEROLL $1000 SATELLITE LOLLLLLL. Good practice I guess.
