New player and New Year by Qyvs!, January 02

New year has to come with some sort of resolutions, therefore I decided to create a blog. I am visiting liquidpoker on a regular basis for quite a while but was never active.

The Introduction

My name is Maciek and I come from Poland. I am 22 and I study Management and Marketing, and Finance & Banking. This year in july/august I will be receiving my bachelor degrees - hopefully, and have no idea what I want to be doing next.

How I started

I started on PartyPoker in june 2007. First I took some kind of quiz and received 50$ for start. I remember I battled hard playing full ring 0.01/0.02$ having little idea of poker. However I managed to get an extra 100$ from PP and I moved to PokerStars.

I played on PokerStars all different games - HU turbo, PLO, cash games, tournaments and everything for little stakes. I got my bankroll up to 700$ from 150$ I deposited and in november I stopped playing due to school.

The break

I had a long break with online poker beacuse of my student exchange in singapore @ the Singapore Management University. It was the best time of my life and I would be a dumbass if I wasted any time on poker then. The exchange lasted until mid April.

http://www.cox.com.au/umbraco/ImageGe...1806/educ_bris_singaporemanuni-01.jpg

After all my exams I decided to travel a bit with my brother who came to Asia and we visited Malaysia, Laos, Thailand and he flew back to Poland. I decided to join my friends in mid May and do a diving course in Borneo,Malaysia - I was very happy to have my first diving experience in Sipadan. It's one of the best spots to dive in the world. Here is a clip on youtube - I love watching it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0LIggNYIkE&feature=related

Live poker

In the end of May I decided to go to Macau. I wanted to check wheter I was able to make money playing live poker. I wasn't feeling very well with my game - especially when the minimum blinds were around 1,5$/3$. I gave myself a stoploss at 600$ so If I lost 2 buy-ins I would go to Hong Kong, and then continue on travelling for next 2 months. I did buy-in with 300$ and I was playing damn scared money. The biggest I have ever played before was NL25 that I was trying to take shots at while failing. First day I was break even, second day I made 20$ - nice!, the third day I won around 1200$. I was playing very well in my opinion and decided to stay in Macau a little longer. I couldn't imagine the money I got in the exchange for chips that day. I was scared that someone will follow me after I walk out of the casino and get robbed or something.

I stayed in Macau around 7 weeks. During that time I had the biggest beats of my life, and a large downswing. Later I just couldn't recover. My game changed and I was constantly losing money, little by little. I lost my confidence, the regulars knew how I played and I didn't adjust my play to theirs at all. I was writing a diary on a daily basis after each session in the casino to have some perspective on how I take beats, wins, how I feel in general. I was there alone, and when you play above your roll it really does affect you.

After 7 weeks I decided to go to the Philipines with a guy I met in Macau. We were supposed to take a break from poker for 10 days and then return to Macau. However, we stayed in the Philipines for more than a month playing poker every day - didn't go with the plan. After that my friend decided to go back to Macau, and I stayed longer in the Philipines to travel and play in Manila.

Back to online

I came home more than two months ago and started playing online once again. I play 10$ DoN's at PS, and lately started with 6.5$ 9-man STT. I made about 40K FPP and 4K$. I would like to move up stakes but I don't think I can, yet. I try to analyze my game, work on it with SNGPower Tools, hand replayer and so on but I still can't get my ROI high enough to say that I beat my stakes for a decent rate. I think that I am better at controlling my tilt, but it still costs me a lot. It's hard to handle losing 10 coin flips in a row.

The thing is that sometimes I play very well, and sometimes I play like crap and I am not focused at all. I think that I am on my A-game 10% of the time which is extremely bad.

2009 score

I managed to take down the 12$ 180 man turbo today. What can I say... you need to be running very well to win one. I was chipleader back an forth as still had 20BB - turbo, eh ?

Here it's the situation that got me huge chip lead @ the end. I was begging for someone to have a hand once I was dealt aces, but an overshove from the chip leader was more than I could hope for!

http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/4599/asdmg0.png

2009 goals

I don't want to be making any specific goals. All I know is that supernova is a must! Otherwise I will not be able to cash 100K FPP bonus, and since polish currency is extremely weak it would be a mistake to be taking any items from the FPP store.

Good luck to all & have little variance in your game!

Dec/Jan Graph/Goals by Spitfiree, January 02

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/a6b55f8f401f5cc269a6ca6e5dec4daf.jpg
With this I end the year its the only month of the year where i finish above or even in all-in EV and the one with the least hands altho i was literally @ home the whole month and literally have gone out only once ( to go to the hospital ... fml ).With this im done with 20nl for now and will take 50nl shots after i get my rakeback in next 1-32hrs(PLS let it be today ).Im pretty pumped up to start playing 100$ pots. There were 2 or 3 times during the year where i was SO close to 50nl shots and then BANG 20buy ins down GG rebuild. For some reasons when i crush a limit i start playing like a moron so i give it all back .... but i think i've fixed that so lets hope i wont repeat it

Goals :
I wanna become a 200nl solid winner till the end of the year
Put like 35-40k hands @ month
Stop being such a time waste machine

resolution / reflection / commitment by Uptown, January 02

tl;dr / emo / who cares blog.
This blog is a combination of resolutions for 2009, reflections on my first two months in poker, and an assertion of my commitment to improving.

--------------
Being in the midst of a collosal downswing has driven me to reflect on my shortcomings, my purpose, why I am playing this game and what I seek to get from it.

Purpose: My purpose in playing is for improvement and enjoying “the game”. While many players here and elsewhere play for monetary reasons (and I fully respect that), I am fortunate enough to not worry about earning a decent wage for the rest of my life. However, I will always need a semi-time-killing hobby to keep me occupied, be it Starcraft, Dota, boardgames, or random reading – internet or hard copy. As I wrote in one of my earlier blogs, I was convinced by Tenbagger to try committing to this game, as it actually gives players who excel at it and strive to become better a tangible and meaningful reward – maybe even the most meaningful kind around. I am willing to admit though, that because of these factors my commitment and drive in the game will be weaker and wavering than many others here. Hence I will inevitably face dilemmas where I will want to quit the game and spend my time elsewhere, etc. It will be up to me to wade through the high tide and get to the other shore when this happens – like it is right now actually.

Reflections: The first two months have brough me a lot, from the excitement of winning my first all-in hand, to moving up and succeeding, moving up and failing, moving up and failing hard, epic (for me) downswings, wanting to quit, a 10 day hiatus (couldn’t be avoided) that has seemingly really hurt my game, being affected by downswings, etc. I’ve started at NL2, moved up to NL5 quickly, taken shots at NL10 with mixed success, and bombed my way down to NL2 again through a combination of bad beats and coolers as well as a mix of overall poor play.

It is quite fitting then, that having experienced the ups and downs, that I find myself at the starting point again on the first day of 2009, both in terms of bankroll status and the stakes I play at. I know that I have the potential to play at the stakes higher than where I am at, and that the only thing keeping me back will be my unwillingness to do whatever it takes to improve my own play.

I am quite convinced now that I am a weak tight. In fact, I am positive that I am a nitty, weak, worthless POS player. Without admitting this, I feel that I cannot take the first step forward, or as a matter of fact, even get off my big ol’ derrier after my fall down to NL2 again. But what does it mean to be “aggressive”? What is the difference between “aggression” and just donking away my money on each street? Meanwhile, the bigger question will be how do I find this out?
Which leads me to the 3rd point of this entry…

Commitment: In my current low level of poker play, the concept I need to embrace the most is that of “taking actions to improve”. That means playing to improve, reading to improve, and taking advantage of any and all resources available to me to that end. It is something that, while I may have believed to have been doing, I was deluding myself with.

For starters, I need to be educating myself much more than I am now. I feel like 90% of my time is spent playing rather than reading or watching or asking. While playing can certainly make me better, at the low level I am in, reading and watching are far more efficient means of self-improvement. Unfortunately I cannot afford a CR account so really the only resource of this nature I can utilize is the 2p2 Unl recommended threads. My immediate goal will be to finish reading all the threads in their entirity and to make an effort to truly understand the information in it, rather than just “blah reading” it.

More importantly, I vow to fully utilize the resources that are available to make me a better player. Most notably, I will actually start to participate in LP actively and start hand threads in the Low stakes forums, and ditch this high horse “I only write blogs look at me I’m so cool with 0 posts next to my name” thing I’ve been on for the last 2 months. It’s quite pointless, and while I still maintain that the 0 post thing is quite cool, it only means that I’m not doing everything I can to become better. If I’m committed to improving, I cannot let myself keep doing this.

Furthermore, I will never, ever play more than 4 tables. I have usually played around 6-8, and once was playing something like 14 tables (and was actually winning, but that doesn’t matter). As many have attested in various places, the only way to improve is to lower the number of tables and pay attention to yourself and your opponents. I know that I need to stop watching videos on the side or reading TL.net as I play, but being easily bored I’m not quite sure I can take this leap yet!

So this naturally leads me to stating some “resolutions” for the new year. All of these are designed for the sole purpose of improving. After all, my purpose in the game is to improve and to enjoy. I shouldn’t be chasing the money as the primary objective. To be doing so would be lying to myself. In fact, “going for the money” will most likely hinder my advancement as a player, as I will be playing robot poker on 20 tables if that were the case.

Resolutions for 2009
- read all available poker resources, starting from the 2p2 archives
- take advantage of LP’s community, actively taking part in its discussions and asking for help/advice
- No more “weak tight”, while avoiding my inner donkey
- 4 tables or less at all times

Cheers LP, and thank you for being an entertaining, manner community that I am not ashamed of being a part of.

NL20 so far, super swongz by Night2o1, January 01

Really have an abysmal winrate. I feel like I've been running bad (losing a lot of 80/20 type all-ins), but one of the things that really sucks about cake is because they dick around with your hand history, you can't as effectively review your session.

Also my showdown winnings are really really wayyyyyyyy worse than is normall acceptable. I don't feel like I'm folding too much or spewing post flop/before showdown though. Having a hard time figuring out where I'm going sooo wrong. I'm losing almost 1.5 buyins every 1000 hands in nonshowdown..

Well wish me continued goodish play and that I can keep my spew down!

December 2008 - First month back by Syntax, January 01

I took the longest break I've ever taken. I didn't play for about 2 months straight other than a couple times live.
Had a bad month. Didn't achieve nearly what i wanted. Next month will be better surely.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v732/SyntaxLlama/asfagdsgagda.jpg

Life's been extremely hectic. A whole lot of shit going on at the same time, coming from all directions. It's usually positive but nonetheless consumes me. Poker is always a top priority for me.

I also bought every (2+2) poker book imaginable. Let's see if i actually read a chapter or two. -.-

Poker Goals by EXCELED, January 01

Man right now I feel like shit ughhhh. I drank my face off last night and found my self yacking out back for a bit. I dont usually yack but shots were flying around like crazy. Really good party overall though. Anyone have some good hangover cures?

Anyways its a new year and I need some new goals for the year so here are some that I made for myself:

> 20-30k hands each month
> Become a regular at 1/2 - 3/6 LHE 6 Max
> Start playing HU
> Study the game more
> Have a 10k BR by the end of the year

I think that all of these goals are very reachable as long as I stay discipline. Im most likely going to be moved into my new place by Monday and dont start school until the 13th so Im going to have some time to put in a serious grind. Anyways I hope everyone had a great New Years. Im going to pass the fuck out for a bit.

Dec updt. + Goals for 2009 by ConquistadoR, January 01

Yo guys, my Dec. changed a bit with the last session. Was a very good session, so i made around 500$ with RB. Seems like i have a problem with Non-SD winnings, look at the second graph. But my winrate is still kinda good, but i wonder how i could improve this. Hmm.
http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/8960/deczk3.jpg
http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/deczk3.jpg/1/w1124.png
http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/3605/dec2fl1.jpg
http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/dec2fl1.jpg/1/w1124.png

Well my goals for 2009, are quite humble. I just want to get back where i once was, i wanna be a winning NL200 regular by the end of the year, thats all i really want. If i can achieve more, it would be nice ofc too. But well, the first quarter of 2009 i will have to climb ub the levels again. Lets see if i can do it. GL and happy new year everyone.

December results and 2009 goals. by Raguna, January 01

The most disappointing part of December was not playing as much as I should have. I want to be more serious about learning the game, but the time I'm spending on it is a bit lacking. I didn't even play 15k hands in all of December.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/a7a66abcca4c4bd686bc9df43fed8aa1.png

I think it's an acceptable first month, but I obviously didn't play enough hands to make any conclusions about whether my play is profitable. In 2009, I want to spend at least 4-6 hours a day playing/studying poker, and I want to be a winning nl200+ player by the end of the year.

Anyways, a happy new year to all; may 2009 be a spectacular poker year.
