Trying to get something going for the summer.by BiNK, March 19
Hey guys...
I've been coming to this forum for quite a while. Made a little money lost a little money. Have never been able to take this game too seriously bankroll management wise so i've calmed down with my playing. So i had like $2.65 left in my Full Tilt Poker account last week and just been playing around with it. Got up to like 10 dollars down to 4 stuff like that then i was at ten today and decided to play a 3 +.30 tourney (6 max) and managed a Final Table. Didn't run too well and made a bad steal so lost a lot of chips on that. Finally, ended up in 4th for a score of like 61 dollars lol...it'll do for now. As of now I am going to work as a janitor at the high school i graduated from last year as my summer job and keep working out for football (i play football in college at this place called Franklin and Marshall). But, on top of that it would be nice to get a nice little roll going so hopefully i can get this 60 or so dollars up to 200 and start grinding for the summer. I want to hit up Turning Stone with a few friends this summer so a little extra money would help. Alright i'll see ya guys later got an early trip to see a friend at Boston College.
running bad...then running alrightby Zalfor, March 18
so today i played a decent amount of hands.
ran HORRIBLY bad, i have no fking clue why my sets got rivered => straight, all in KK vs QQ doesn't work, QQ vs AK doesn't work, fking everything didnt work and i lost 4 BIs. If i had a all in EV shit, i would be up a lot more...
BUT! i did work on my game to be more aggressive, i'm getting a lot of value these days and getting my money in good... and bluffing at the right spots. So, i'm currently at 2.4k in my BR and i'm pretty close to nl100. i think i'm going to take some shots by next week. wish me luck!
ok, so i'm in a $100 league with $1 trades w/ my brother and a lot of his friends, first is close to 1k, its on cbs.sportsline.com
I've been out of baseball for 4-5 years, but grew up watching baseball all day everyday, watched sportscenter everyday of my life til i was around 20, etc.
my main question is, who are the best players to get right now?
obviously the bignames (aroid etc) will get picked first, i'm looking for a list of good sleeper players, ppl that are good for points in a league that gives and takes points for everything, such as singles doubles triples, strikeouts, BB's, etc.
The most efficient players I would say
Also, some good relief pitchers and closers would be nice
Hope some of you can help, don't wanna be dead money in a league of ppl that do this everyyear in 3-5 leagues, i'm just single tabling the fantasy league this year
From a retard donkfish, really awful player, though I was playing pretty bad at the end too. Think I dropped 2.5 buyins in a 2 hr HU match (LOL nothing) buttttttt I was taking a shot at 100nl so it feels a lot worse.
I think I learned what my C-game is in this session, lol.
Just played a hardcore grinding session, 13 tables NL25. Started off real bad, even started tilting, then I thought about my game, and I repaired my broken fold button, which has been broken for a long time, and it seems to help a lot. Its the best feeling to get unstuck after a long ass session.
I also played some 18man 1.75$ SNG's for fun, they are really soft, I should try the higher as well, but I dont know THAT much about SNG strategy so I dunno.
Ugh. Biggest downswing ever. I'm very confused and annoyed. this whole year's been shit and prob has been the worst 2 months of poker ive ever had. blahhttp://img21.imageshack.us/my.php?image=march1.jpg
and the year so far (at least on this comp theres some more on the laptop). Its hard to put in enough hands playing during school too. All 4 tabling though for hte most part with a small amount of 6 tabling.
I called pf because the UTG raiser is a huge lag retard with stats of like 75/65/1.5 over 300+ hands, and hantae111 is a terrible loose reg. Anyways the flop I wasn't sure whether to raise or just flat. AJTheKing could pretty much have any 2, and hantae111 loves to raise with draws but has trouble folding anything from overpair to a gutshot. Should I have just flatted here? Or even fold...? + Show Spoiler +

I think I probably should've raised and got it in on the flop. RJT is somewhat unknown although I could tell he was not very good, preposterous is a pretty laggish but decent reg capable of big bluffs and big calls. On the flop I had RJT on either a draw or a marginal hand, and prep on a pretty large range but mainly on TK-AK. On the turn I gave prep credit for a decent hand, mainly TK-AK still, and RJT on some combo draw like QTh or 76h. Should I have raised flop, and assuming I flatted flop, should I have flatted again on turn? + Show Spoiler +

Villain is a very aggressive preflop player but seems smart postflop especially in multiway pots. I'm not sure if he's capable of doing this with just a naked flush draw (pretty sure 6Xh and probably 8Xh are a part of his range but dunno about stuff like A9h or A4h). Since he's very aggro preflop I can safely assume he doesn't have hands like AKh/AQh/AJh and probably not KQh. Push or fold? + Show Spoiler +

but according to you guys it was retarded to play it like this at this limit, I will lose money in the long term (While I will probably never be in the same situation with the same history with and notes on the villain rofl)
Anyway I believe you know better, so I simply chucked the 4tabling Y theory poker, and started practicing theory X hardcore.
12 Table ABC Poker, overprotecting and oversized value betting, assuming everyone is retarded, just making notes on villains only after playing in my hand and observing other plays only when I was bored or one of the regs raised and got called.
I also started betting many many hands BU (assuming I got the conditions of nobody nitty and nobody less then 65% Fold to C/Bet stats limping) and sometimes CO (dependend on BU player). I am new in this field, and I yet need to learn how to extract the huge potential value when I actually hit something like in this hand:

I am up to $200 but I feel the upswing can be a little artificial thanks to those idiots so I am staying at $5 BI's to avoid the usual Tilt after winning period.
My main priority now is to work on the small hand plays, avoid Tilt and grind it up to get to NL10 pretty soon to get closer to limits where I can try some complex reads and tells identifying shit.w
Djeezs, getting hard when u lose flips at 80% of the time
Today had to play my best to get break even all day, it was kinda like yesterday,everyone hitting it, oh well... got a few hands i would like ur advice on...
So I don't watch much TV but do like to get myself a DVD series when I hear about something good.
I'm sure many of you have watched the Wire, and I'd imagine if you're an American, you probably liked it (and even if you aren't you probably still liked it). I was surprised when a friend informed me that The Wire was actually heavily based off of an HBO Original Mini-Series from 2000 titled "The Corner", based off of this book: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Corn...he_Life_of_an_Inner-City_Neighborhood
Of course, Reading books is sooo 1980's so I didn't bother with that and ordered the DVD.
It came in last night and I watched the first episode just a few hours ago. Judging from the first episode, I would highly recommend checking out this series. I went over to some websites and people are pretty torn over whether or not they like The Wire or The Corner better. I think The Corner is a lot more involved of a story, as they basically crammed everything going on in The Wire into six one-hour episodes, and due to this intensity I think I slightly favour it thus far. It's production style is definitely very 90's-ish which is really the only negative I can draw out at this time (and maybe some iffy acting, but not horrible by any means).
If you were a fan of the wire, I'd highly recommend checking this DVD out, got if for $18 on Amazon.
Even tho I'm a winner in NL25 (6ptBB over 30k+) I think it's time for me to start thinking a little bit different, I'm currently 8 tabling so most of my play is standard and I know that works but I do have the intention to move up and I don't think my current game is gonna cut it.
I'll try to describe my thinking process and game plan so more experienced players can give me tips on how to improve.
So far most of the play happens PF I know very little about playing short handed and I'm horrible at HU so I think my postflop play is flawed in many aspects, basically what I do is base my decisions (C/R/F) on player stats and take it from there I don't pay attention to hands that I'm not participating because to be honest I don't even think I have the brain power to do so, I do make plays like squeezing pots and re-steal based on CBET% and 3bet% and I'm pretty sure i get it right most of the time, I understand the concept of fold equity but rarely use it because the people I play with rarely fold. (They never fold overpairs or sets even in the most atrocious kind of board)
I can recognize "types" of players and I have a basic idea on how to exploit aggro donks and extreme nits by letting them value bet themselves on the first case and doing unorthodox stuff on later.
The reason I'm posting this is because playing like C3PO 80% gets old and I want to evolve, I appreciate advices and comments.
For the past few weeks my wife and I have been house shopping because we finally got approved for a home loan. Anyone who claims poker as their main source of income should know how annoying this can be. I have been laughed out of a couple of banks and been told that it is impossible to get one by loan officers, but I finally got pre approved. So I'm pretty stoked about that. We've been looking at houses for about a year or so, just in case we ever did get approved or I won some big donkament and could throw down cash for one so we pretty much knew what kind of house we wanted.
Anyways, we found one that we really like over in Green Valley and we went ahead and put an offer in on it. A few days later we found out that they went with another offer, which was lame since we offered full asking price plus we pay 100% of closing costs. Must have been a really good offer from someone else. So a couple days after that we found another house that we really liked and we decided to put an offer in on that one. It is about 30k cheaper but it doesn't have a pool yet, so we'd have to install that and it'll probably end up costing about the same as the other one would've. So we put an offer in on that and are looking to hear back from them today or tomorrow. I'm pretty confident about this one because it's been on the market for almost a year and no one's ever lived in it.
Anyone wanna come join me (and pinball, if he can find his way from Gothenborg) and play some donkaments and own some live cash at nordic poker masters next week? They've got a main event for 25k SEK (2.5k€), a couple of small PLO/NL events and a half/half. Migth forfeit my no drinking bet and have some fun too! Come on dear LP-members, let's have some fun!
Jesus, this guy is a real douche. He is actually defending AIG and trying to twist shit around. If you didn't know already, AIG was bailed out by the Govt at the end of Bush's 2nd term. They then took their executives to some fancy spa on a really expensive retreat. People got pissed cause these guys are supposedly bankrupt and taxpayer money is being used to save them, and now they're using company money to give executives a fancy vacation. Fast forward to about 10 days ago and AIG is again on the verge of collapse and gets MORE bailout money. They promptly go and dump out over $100 million in bonuses to top executives, including people who don't even WORK FOR AIG ANYMORE! Now pretty much everyone is mad, republicans, democrats, regular joe schmo citizens. Obama expresses outrage and orders that everything be done to get the bonus money back, and what do we get from Rush Limbaugh? A bunch of BS:
"A lynch mob is expanding: the peasants with their pitchforks surrounding the corporate headquarters of AIG, demanding heads. Death threats are pouring in. All of this being ginned up by the Obama administration."
When one of his own callers said he agreed with President Obama on this one, Limbaugh replied: "Let me ask you a question. ... You have a company -- let's take AIG out of this 'cause they're so emotionally charged. Let's say that the company being bailed out is the XYZ Widget Company. ... We need them to manufacture widgets and sell widgets and so forth. So why in the world -- or how do you get to the point where you're going to bail out the company, but you don't want the employees to get paid?"
The caller protested that the AIG employees were already getting paid plenty, and Limbaugh responded that the only thing stopping him from making just as much was himself:
LIMBAUGH: Do you know what? And I mean this from the bottom of my heart, Nathan -- the only person stopping you is you. There's 250 -- he hung up. Damn it, he hung up. Right?
Nathan, if you're -- there's $250,000 out there for you, Nathan. If you really want it, you really want to earn that kind of money, it's out there. Now, it's going to -- and don't -- I'm not being insulting -- it's going to take hard work.
Jesus Rush, no one is saying that we shouldn't pay employees, people are pissed that a company that is in such dire financial straits that they need a fucking bailout is giving ANY BONUSES AT ALL! That's like me being on the verge of bankruptcy and getting a loan to survive, and then taking that money and blowing it on 1 night of clubbing instead of using it to cover my necessary expenses for the next few months while I get back on my feet. Plus, if these fuckers ran the company into the ground so much that it needed a bailout, why would they deserve a goddamned bonus? WHERE IS THE FUCKING LOGIC!?!??!!?
Olbermann mentioned this on his show when he named Rush the worst person in the world (a regular occurrence):
Also, details on the money that AIG paid, according to the NYC Attorney General:
• The top recipient received more than $6.4 million;
• The top seven bonus recipients received more than $4 million each;
• The top ten bonus recipients received a combined $42 million;
• 22 individuals received bonuses of $2 million or more, and combined they
received more than $72 million;
• 73 individuals received bonuses of $1 million or more; and
• Eleven of the individuals who received "retention" bonuses of $1 million
or more are no longer working at AIG, including one who received $4.6
million;
Again, these payments were all made to individuals in the subsidiary whose performance
led to crushing losses and the near failure of AIG. Thus, last week, AIG made more than 73
millionaires in the unit which lost so much money that it brought the firm to its knees, forcing taxpayer bailout. Something is deeply wrong with this outcome. I hope the Committee will
address it head on.
We have also now obtained the contracts under which AIG decided to make these
payments. The contracts shockingly contain a provision that required most individuals' bonuses to be 100% of their 2007 bonuses. Thus, in the Spring of last year, AIG chose to lock in bonuses for 2008 at 2007 levels despite obvious signs that 2008 performance would be disastrous in comparison to the year before. My Office has thus begun to closely examine the circumstances under which the plan was created.
