So I finally played at a live poker room for the first time this last night. I would say I played fairly nitty, but I also didn't get many hands for a full ring game over the 4 hours I played. I was also playing $2/$2 and the max buy in by law is $100 so there isn't a lot of room to gamble if you don't pick a hand you like.
Best hands for the first 1 hour was A3os and 22, neither of which led to much. Got grinded down to $60 or so until I picked up QQ. Raised it preflop and got a couple of calls. Flop was J42, got it all in vs KJ and doubled up.
2nd big hand I played I got AJ and raised to $10, got a couple callers. Flop was 79J and I fired on the flop and turn and got raised all in on the turn. I folded and the dude to my left called. The shover had 8T of course.
next big hand I played I got QJ, called a preflop raise. Flop was QJ7. Another dude and myself get it all in on the flop and he turns over J7. Doubled up.
Then I just folded a ton more. Pretty much everyone at the table had me pinned as a super nit, which I figured. I wasn't really there to gamble, just to win, and with rake and tips I figured playing as little as possible was an okay strategy. Finally I got the dealer button and figured I could take any pot I wanted with my image. Raised it to $10 preflop with 48os, got 2 callers. Flop came AQx, check check, I bet 20. Fold, other guy tanks and says "will you show if I fold?" "Yeah i'll show." Felt nice flipping over the 48.
Ended the night up $80 which was nice. The poker room I was at was celebrating their 1 year anniversary and were giving away $500 every half hour for the high hand. There was only like 50 tables but you'd be surprised how many straight flushes can be hit in a 4 hour period. I'd say I was running above average on the flop but I was running below average with starting hands. Almost all of my starting hands were 2 non-suited cards both under ten. If they were suited I would play them for the shot at the straight flush and high hand, but I'm not durrrr so I don't pay to see a flop with 67os.
I have set for myself a new goal: To make $1000 per day.
However since I am currently incapable of this, I shall go for an alternative goal of 1000 hands per day. Poker, much like life, is better played with goals in mind. Goals have a particular ability to make people perform better. This is actually my first ever poker goal.
I have long grimaced at the act of playing micro stakes, as the variance and looseness of it all strays so far from classic poker. I have long since been unwilling to conform to their standards, holding strong to the belief that the best hand should always win, and if they're going to limp Q3o well then I'm going to raise A3o goddamnit. Whatever misgivings I have, there is one conclusion I am fast drawing upon, and that is micro stakes is all about volume of play. The game CAN be a bit variance heavy depending upon how you play, but either way what it really takes to drudge through it is sheer numbers in hands played.
If you play a super nit FR game, while you may hardly lose a hand, it will take thousands of hands to actually show a solid profit. And if you are daring enough to play a LAG game, the variance will kill you without again, tons of hands to survive through it. My entire poker career has spanned just barely over 100k hands. The last few months have consisted of maybe 2-4k hands each month. My goal is to play 1000 hands every single day for a month straight, to get 30k hands per month, a solid monthly sample which should show a gradual increase in bankroll. I am hoping to quickly move up to 2000 hands once my bankroll is large enough to allow for more tables at a time. I am simply going to count on the math of the game to say that playing in a +EV way WILL yield profit. Maybe not at the end of the day, maybe not the end of the week, but surely by the end of the month. Hopefully this becomes habit forming, but I feel being able to play as many hands in my entire poker lifetime in a matter of months should break me in to being able to be a full time poker player.
So I pretty much doubled my roll since last week which is pretty cool but today had a really bad session where no hands were paying off. These kind of days can be devastating to the psyche and your mind set. I took a break and came back at night and vola after some adjustments was able to win most of it back thank god. I was blaming myself for not stopping after being up 200 and instead down 1350 and it was hella stressful. Also had 4bi on 1 table and lost it all to a donk who basically calls every street and got a gutshot for a straight on the river.
Didn't realize since january, but I do .
What tilts me:
When I lose in HU tournament because I crush and then I pick up AKs and eventually he pushes with KJ and pot is worth 1.2k$ cause after that I'm in top 8 at least and he obviously spikes J on the flop. Then we're back to even and the very next hand I pick TT and he almost minraises my raise and I push with TT (cause I'm on tilt from previous hand, but hey, durrr pushes TT preflop as well) and obv he holds AA but I'm not durrr and I don't hit T .
Then, I wish him to lose in next round and obviously he managed to catch a donk what tilts me more but then donk managed to dominate him BUT again he sucks out.
Then it's ezy game for him since he managed to suck out again in top 4. Then he chops when FT for 10k and plays for the rest and wins it too.
Then I randomly drop 10BI to random nit donks.
Then I write an email to pokerstars I love them because I have stake limit and can't tilt in higher stakes.
Judo
originally is a Japanese Self defence System including weapon teqchniques found by Jigoro Kano in 1882.
However the more popular form of Judo is the Olympic sports Judo of 1950s
Intension of Judo ( Olympic Version)
- Throw your opponent on the back ( U win the fight when opponents back touches the ground while u are in control)
- Throw your opponent on the ground and either follow up with a submission or pin hold within 20 seconds. ( after 20 seconds its stand up again in most cases)
Oposed to general believe Judo is not a ground fighting art.
Its a stand up martial art.
The overwhelming part of Judo skills is used in standing position !
The Training methods of modern Judo are very "alive" and u will do lots of sparring (randori) over and over again.
U will learn lots of different throws for different situations + escapes from ground and furthermore some basic submissions
and GI chokes. ( Armbar , triangle , different chokes)
Video of different throws from Judo competitions
Does Judo work in a Real fight
There is good news and there is bad news for u guys out there hoping to become a better fighter by training Judo
1.) Judo does work in real fights and also in MMA circumstances
2.) U need a shitload ( and i am really doing a sick understatement here !)of training in order to sucessfully use Judo techniques in real fights.
Judo is an art and i really think it is a very beatiful art to use in real fighting situations.
However it is very difficult to learn !
While most other martial arts are easy to learn but difficult to master u can savely say that Judo is even very difficult to learn in the first place.
It just is insanely difficult to throw a person in a fight where boxing and Kicking is allowed.
Thats the reason i gave up on Judo like 2 years ago.
U need to train at least 4 times a weak each unit at least 2h to be able to use Judo throws succesfully in real fighting situations.
I have sparred with a lot of Judokas ranking from white belt to black belts and in no other martial arts i encounterd such a big difference in skill level between low belts and high belts.
Basically nobody lower than Black belt was even able to use anything of Judo in sparrings against me at all ...
I have very medicore BJJ skills ( Average blue belt) but i tapped all kind of Judo players(even brownbelts) very quickly for the most part as soon as we were on the ground. Concerning the stand up almost nobody was able to throw me when we did light mma sparring.
So the first impression u could get is :
Judo is far too complicated and too difficult to be used in real fighting situations.
To some Point i do agree.
However i did also "fight/do sparring" with some really good blackbelts and i can tell u that some of them made me realise that their stuff works ! Its just that u have to be very very good at what u are doing.
A good example for this is Karo Parysan ( UFC fighter)
He uses sick Judo throws and techniques in many of his fights.
Here is another video that i liked that shows how Judo can work in case u are good at it
Other things i noticed while training Judo and doing lots of sparring with Judokas.
+ many good judokas have pehnomenal balance ! Its so hard to take them down.
+ some good Judokas have a sick Kesa Gatame ( scarf Hold) that can be used perfectly for Ground and Pound
Some of the blackbelts caught me in Kesa gatame and i could not get out no matter how hard i tried
- many Judokas are surprisingly bad on the ground ( since Judo is a stand up martial arts in teh first place)
Due to some specific Judo tournament rules they totally suck at defending their back ^^. I finished plenty of Judokas with the simple RNC from BJJ.
- Many Judokas feel superior to Kickboxers and Boxers but are totally lost as soon as they face one ^^
Side note
Judo also has some very gay "dancing" stuff that has to be learned for blue, brown and black belt demonstrations
Like the Kata in shotokan Karate
here is an example
But unlike traditional Karate
most Judo clubs have the emphasize on fighting while Kata is only for belt demonstrations
Conclusion
Modern Judo is a Sport that can be a lot of fun
It is the very beautiful art of throwing people and also works in real fighting situations
However it is insanely difficult to execute
If u are searching for a nice Hobby u might find a good friend in Judo
If u aim to become a better fighter be aware that Judo requires a shitload of Trainig to be used effective.
In fact all the guys i met that were good at it have trained in Judo for at least 8 years .. most of them 5 times a week.
The other Judo guys did fail hardcore at applying Judo to "real" fighting situations.
In my experience the first 3 years u probably wont be able to apply any of the throws u learned to real fighting situations.
Played last night for a couple of hours after meeting up with an old work mate and asked about the structures. There was 80-100NL (i.e. min/max buyin) with $1/$2 blinds - nice 50 BB
So how about the 200NL......blinds were $5/$5....40 blinds WTF!!!!
Both with 10% rake capped at $8 for the 100NL
So I was just killing time and sat at an 80/100 table only to find that there was also a table "time charge" of $5/hr.
Do any of you Aussies bother with this?
The players sucked so i guess that compensated a bit - "I bet $15"...."OK - I'll see you"..... Had one guy call my river 3/4 pot bet with KQ high.
Around the middle of April I went over to UltimateBet to clear a deposit bonus. I just finished clearing in today finally and I am very happy with how the grind went. Heres the graph:
This graph is about 70% NL25 and 30% NL10. UB is pretty shitty when it comes to the NL25 games and most times they only have no more then 10 tables running at once so I would often just pick the best games then have like 9 NL10 tables going. If this site had the same amount of NL25 games going as say FTP or Stars did I would have made ALOT more. Whatever though.
After the 12 BI downsiwng that I had I decided that 6 max just isnt my game. I made the switch to full ring and started 16 tabling. What a good choice that was as you can see. A lot less variance and I can put in a lot more volume of hands. I also got a few buddies who are 1/2 regs that are helping my game a lot. Its great to have guys who play higher then you to talk to about hands etc. If anyone feels like going over hands and shit Im always down and you can usually find me on the LP Vent.
Now that Ive cleared my bonus the plan is to take my whole roll of UB and move over to FTP to clear anohter $600 bonus and play in a lot of the Mini Series of Poker events that are coming up. Hopefully I can ship one of those events lol. Im due for a tourney score. Im looking forward to moving to FTP though because they have way more games running at once and they are a lot better then the games on UB so Im looking forward to crushing them.
If I were to rate UB as a whole I would give it a 4/10 lol. The only real good things about it are the 111% first time deposit bonus and 30% rakeback. Other then that I didnt really like the site at all. The tourneys are shit and the software isnt that great either. But whatever if you are whoring bonuses like I am I guess its a site you have to hit up.
Anyways Im out folks, GL at the tables.
SmokingDough
But I need 4137VPP more this month to get Platinum. Only playing NL25, that means I need about 40k hands more in about 3-4 days because I can't play on one day of the weekend at least. Seems impossible hmm. Can i do it?????????????
I have yet broken another record regarding how much i suck at catching good cards
After playing for 3 hours rock solid poker this is how i go out.....
Edit - Note how many chips i have........ ITS A FKN 5K tourny FML!!!!
During current Hold'em session you were dealt 131 hands and saw flop:
- 8 out of 14 times while in big blind (57%)
- 2 out of 15 times while in small blind (13%)
- 12 out of 102 times in other positions (11%)
- a total of 22 out of 131 (16%)
Pots won at showdown - 0 of 2 (0%)
Pots won without showdown - 8

Today:
I profited a little bit again and am 99.99% sure I didn't make any big mistakes, so that's good. I can hopefully just keep coasting along until the deck hits me in the face (nicely) for a couple of sessions, instead of smashing my balls between cement blocks as it is known to do lately
Flirted with by some hot girl, gonna run into her tonight but its unlikely to lead anywhere. But I think I failed one of those girl-tests when she took me from the poker table to go hang out in the pit with her (she wasn't looking for me to pay for her gambling btw lol). Was fun tho.
Primary focus is poker.. I hope some amazing shit happens soon so I can be like yay :D
I quit my job about 2 weeks ago due to various reasons, and in Malmö its kind of hard to get a job here (i will not work at mcdonalds). If I nit up I can manage the summer with some I got saved up. On the other hand, my dad has gotten me an interview in stockholm next week, which sucks because a.) I have my girlfriend in malmö, and she gets really upset about the thought of me moving to Stockholm. B.) I moved from Stockholm to Malmö to be with my friends, and c.) getting an apartment in stockholm is hard, and I dont want to pay 2k/month, or live in a ghetto.
The good thing about moving is a.) its good job, a big company with a bunch of benefits, and I will most likely be making an ok amount.
I really really like my girlfriend, and I dont want to move from her. But on the other hand, I need to think about my future too...
I started playing some poker recently and its been going ok I guess. Will start grinding again next week. Mtts, cash game?
Got some friends over at www.husarrest.com that are dj:ing here in Malmö. Check them out, here is a youtube vid from one of their gigs in lund at the university.

1.) About 6 months
2.) She just go an apartment in central malmö (which takes 3-4-5 years), and is working in Copenhagen.
3.) The nightclub is right by the beach in southern Sweden.
4.) Probably not.

Hey, just gonna update from my last entry. More of the important stuff in the "The Poker Mindset" book, and continue from where I dropped off :-)
Overcoming Your Instincts
Actions and Reactions
- In poker, the link between action and reaction (or in this case, between decision and results) can be difficult to identify.
- Just because you are winning does not mean you are playing well, and just because you are losing does not mean you are playing badly.
- In poker, the laws of action and reaction do apply, but in a very different way than in everyday life. The results of your actions will be extremely volatile in the short term to the point where they are almost not worth worrying about.
- Make sure that when you make a link between poker play and its results, you are looking at the result of many, many trials.
Setting Goals
- Broadly speaking, setting poker goals for yourself can be good, but they should never be monetary targets. There are three important reasons why:
1. You have limited power to achieve monetary goals.
2. Conclusions are difficult to draw when you miss a monetary target.
3. Monetary targets detract from your true goal (making correct decisions).
- Setting goals in poker is important, but they should fulfill two important criteria:
1. You need to have the power to directly achieve the goal
2. The goal must not conflict with or detract from your ultimate aim of making the best decision as often as possible.
Is "Average" Acceptable?
- If you are an average player at poker, then you are losing money. Poker is one endavour where average is simply not good enough.
Risk Aversion
- No matter what attitude a poker player has toward risk in his everyday life, he must adopt a risk-neutral attitude when sitting at the poker table.
- A player who tries to play poker in a risk-averse manner may be prone to the following:
- Chasing opponents out of pots too often
- Not value betting enough
- Playing in less-profitable games
Greed
- When playing poker, you need to get rid of all pretenses that greed is a bad thing. Greed is not only acceptable when playing poker, it is vital.
Woolly thinking
- Woolly thinking is any line of thought that contains a logical flaw - any deduction that, when you break it down, does not make sense. The problem when playing poker is that every bit of woolly thinking will cost you money.
- Some types of woolly thinking in poker include:
- Considering irrelevant variables
- Misunderstanding probability
- Results-based thinking
- Spurious regression
- Acting on principle
- Superstition
Summary
- It is important that you break out of the pre-programmed thinking patterns and develop a new kind of intuition that we call the Six Truths of Poker Intuition:
1. Actions and reactions are only tenuously linked.
2. Setting short-term monetary goals is counter-productive.
3. Average is not an acceptable standard in poker.
4. Risk neutrality is the only acceptable attitude to risk.
5. Greed is good.
6. Clear logical thought is required.
so i saw this guy the hand before bet 3bb on the flop, the turn and river and then fold to a raise. it mostly means a bluff a large % of the time so hes either tilting or an habitual bluffer.
he completes, i raise- standard. he min3bets me back. based on the previous info i think hes full of shit and auto 4bet. he instantly 5bets. so he didnt think about the hand at all- if he had an AA/KK i think he would think how best to get money out of me and likely just call. if he had AK he would just shove cos he wants to see all 5 cards at once.
i assume i have some fold equity (evidently i didnt?) and that i beat his range. its a pot sized bet to shove. no previous history.
i asked a friend of who plays high stakes and eventhough i may know hes bluffing, i dont beat his bluffing range which includes 77, AT...
thx for comments.
