Let's Ship $1 million by k2o4, January 15

As many of you saw in my previous blog post, the non-profit organization I've been working part time for (PeaceJam Foundation) made the top 100 charities in Chase banks give away on Facebook, which shipped them 25k. Round #2 just started (only lasts 1 week) and the top 100 charities are competing to win $1,000,000. First place ships the million and the next 5 ship 100k. Pretty sweet.

So I'm calling on the poker community for help - please log onto Facebook and vote for PeaceJam, and then invite your friends to vote too! I truly believe that with the poker and starcraft communities working together we can take 1st place and get some money to deserving charity that will do lots of good with it!

Please Visit the Page and VOTE!!!

http://hyperbean8jojo.googlepages.com/drevil.jpg

You get 5 votes and can only vote for each charity 1 time. Voting ends in 1 week! Below are some links to the PeaceJam website with more info for those of you who wanna do a thorough vetting process beore giving out your vote =)

Thanks to everyone for your votes! Now let's show the world that when the poker/BW grinders get behind something it's unstoppable!

Finished NL5! by phrenik, January 15

So I'm just about done NL5. Tomorrow's rakeback should put me at just about the 20BI I need for NL10. Only 1 losing session at NL5, but there were a few I had to save. Actually, quite a few sessions I ran bad to start but made it above water at the end. It was also nice to hit a great session just starting out. Hopefully I can finish NL10 by the beginning of February.

I'm actually kind of torn between whether to play more tables or less tables. I'm pretty comfortable with 8 right now, and that's the default max for FTP. Playing more tables means more volume which should accelerate my gains. Less tables means I can think more, but honestly I'm playing pretty straight up so less tables would probably be a bit slow. I also want to work on taking notes which would be way easier with less tables. I think once I get comfortable at NL10 I should take a couple sessions and just focus on taking good notes while playing. The only note taking I did at NL5 was tagging fish green so I could more easily see which tables I should replace. I also should work on customizing my hud, there are a lot of excess stats in the popups and some useful ones I want to be able to see more easily like fold to 3bet%.

Stuff to work on:
- Value betting thinner. I get gunshy when I don't have top kicker and sometimes I bet smaller or only go for 2 streets of value when against most fish I'm still crushing their calling range with TPGK.
- Taking time to think about what I'm getting value from when betting instead of just betting when I have a good hand.
- Betting bigger in all-in pots. I always underbet all-in pots because I feel like I'm starting a whole new pot for the side pot.

adding to my arsenal by moonk379, January 15

ive been reading more poker books lately and ive realized i should be profiting more from players who are weak by 3betting and 4betting on particular players. im getting the hang of it and getting the hang of particular spots to 3b and 4b and i think i am getting better as a player. just a random blog on how much im learning by actually wanting to learn more about poker whereas before i thought i was already a good player but now i realize just by reading on some poker im on a whole new level.

Offering lessons by phexac, January 14

Hey guys, I have achieved certain goals that I have set for myself as far as poker profitability, skill, and game understanding are concerned. I have been playing poker as my sole source of income since I was laid off at my job in finance two summers ago. At that time, I was playing NL50, which made it a less than ideal time to start, to say the least. Since then, I have played significant amounts at up to NL600 online and up to 5/10 NL live and have gotten to the point where my poker income and my confidence in my ability to improve are such that I do not intend on seeking another job. I use the extra time and freedom I have thanks to playing poker to pursue my two main hobbies, which are competitive swimming and writing. As a mandatory part, here is my graph over the past 150k hands:

http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/7039/150kgraph.jpg

As of right now, I will be offering lessons to players up to NL200 6-max. I will focus on correctly using opponents' tendencies and detailed stats to identify ways to exploit them. In the process, I will also take a look at what stats the student uses and make suggestions as to how optimize their HUD and which stats to pay attention to. This will apply to making plays that many players, especially struggling ones, at NL200 and below have trouble with, such as floating, 3betting, responding to 3bets, multiple barrel bluffs and value bets, as well as making correct folds.

At this time, I will be doing only individual lessons and lesson packages, though that may change later. I will set my hourly rate in subsequent posts. For now, since this is my first coaching offer on this site, I will offer a first-time special. I am offering one two-hour session for $100. We will start off with a short discussion of the student's game and areas that he or she wants to focus on during the lesson. After that, we will do an hour-long play session where I will observe the student play. We will conclude with a final analysis of the session with specific attention given to the areas the student wanted to focus on at the outset. If we run over the allotted time, I will obviously not expect any additional payment. Finally, if the student wishes, I will offer another one-hour session for another $50, either right then or at a later date, where the student can sweat me 4-tabling their stakes and commenting on my play.

Since this is a good offer as far as poker lessons go, I will not pick the student on first come first serve basis. Instead, I will wait a few days, while reposting this a couple of times, to see who applies and then pick one person.

If you are interested, send me a PM and include the following:
-What stakes you play (up to NL200) and a brief summary of your poker history.
-Your own honest assessment of how you are doing.
-Your poker goals for the next few months.
-What you hope to gain from the lesson.

Finally a few administrative details:
-The lesson will take part, preferably, early in February.
-Payment is due immediately before the start of the lesson. I will accept Stars or Full Tilt transfer.
-We will use Skype to talk and screen-sharing software so that I can see what you are doing, so make sure you have a microphone (duh).

PM me if you are interested.

Profitability of the Mixed Games by SmokingDough, January 14

Lately Ive been wondering more and more about what the mixed games play like. Im not an amazing mixed game player by any standards but I kno the basics of all of them. Ive been playing NLHE for so long now and its getting a bit boring. Same old stuff, Overpair vs Set blah blah blah.

Im not sure how many LPers actually play Mixed games but my main question is how profitable you guys think the mixed games (Horse/7game/8game) are at the lower stakes say from .5/1 - 3/6? Are there actually a lot of regulars at these levels? Do you think that if one were to study these games for a few months they could have a small winrate? I would think a fish in the mixed games also would be 10x worse than a NLHE fish. Also what do you think will happen in the future of the mixed games? Do you guys think that with all the big pros sort of migrating over to Mixed games that the rest one day will follow?

$2 180.. Mid January update by [GiTM]-Ace, January 14

Yep well So far hasn't been going as well As Id hoped. Not to happy with the results But I don't really mind them to much since I try not to pay attention to them anyway. But I set a goal for myself to atleast do 1400 by now doing 100 sngs a day but i failed. HOpefully I can still hit my monthly goal of 2.5k... I'm really shooting for 3k but I'm not sure If I'm rdy for that just yet.But 2.5k I should get as long as I don't become a lazy bum.

Just moved into my apt yesterday! On the 25th floor with a view of downtown Minneapolis. Any other LPers from the Minneapolis area?

Here's the view from my balcony:

Supernova update by longple, January 14

Moved to new appartment january 1st but left for canarie islands for vacation until january 9th.

So both the 9th and 10th became mostly moving stuff to the new appartment, its really sweet. 2 rooms 1 kitchen+bathroom 63m2, will prolly make some pictureish blogpost later on when its all finished its gonna be epic as soon as i get my 50'' TV too!

but i started the supernova 24 tabling 100NL grindament at the 10th and have been grinding 5 days now. ive played alot since i wanna finish in 45 days (written like a schedule on my comp to follow 2222 VPP / day ~ 5-6 hours/day at 100NL FR 24 tabling.

ive played alot these first 5 days, almost 10 hours/day and i like starting off hard since im pretty sick right now, nasty cold so i got alot of just dead time at the appartment so i try to grind alot. Im pretty much going at the phase atm to finish in like 30 days or less but ill keep at the 45 day goal so i can take some more time off for friends, gf and such!

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/10966f74d094383daecbc0efe27c094c.jpg

13600 VPP in 5 days feels good and i decided to not look at my results more then once a week since thats not my main focus, just try to focus on playing solid poker to get this supernova shit done.

When i checked my results after 50k hands i was alittle shocked actually, felt like ive been running shit this whole time, but actually im doing pretty well for the first time 24 tabling.

Im not a fullring player in my soul, and i dont expect to win alot really during this grind rush for supernova. I just wanna get it done, im gtd 6000$ for bonuses/milestones, ill get supernova done and as long as i atleast breakeven im happy. since 6000$ is alot for me over just 45 days as it is.

but if i can win anything at the tables too that is just a great bonus.

This far im pretty happy w the results, if i can keep almost 3bb/100 over the next ~300k hands ill be very happy indeed !

year graph 100NL FR:

+ Show Spoiler +

Not the biggest sample for a FR masstable grinder, but if i can keep this rate maybe i will continue to FPP whore after supernova too, its really good money for me.

But the main plan was just to go back to the 200NL 6max/HU shots and try to improve as a player.

But we will see, its all about the moniez in the end

Gl and ty for reading!

Still trucking at 25k hands. by BiNK, January 14

So have logged an astounding 25k hands at nl2 and have about ~152 dollar profit which puts me just over 75% of the way to my 100 buy in challenge to myself. I think i have displayed enough discipline to myself to move up but I think I need to win the last 25 bi's cause i'm so close to the end. Also, once I have won the 100 bis i'll have a $223 bankroll which is about 45 buyins to play nl5. I think i'm going to try to win 50 buy ins at this limit now so i can have $473 when I start play NL5 deepstack on stars. True NL10's rake is ridiculous and I think i'll make about the same money playing deepstacked NL5 (.02/.05). Gonna grind a whole lot the next couple of days since i'm going back to school like 5 days early so hopefully my monday I can start with the NL5 games. That is all.

Good luck to all,

Donald
