| | Sept Results + TechCrunch Disrupt by PanoRaMa, September 30
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a162/sirasoni/sept10res.png
Not sure what my total count with rakeback and everything is, probably around 15.5k. Really would've liked to follow up my August god-mode run with at least 20k but wisdom teeth removal kept me out for a week, and for the past week I've also been in San Francisco attending some conferences like TechCrunch Disrupt which "gathers both Web innovators disrupting media and technology and also executives successfully navigating disruption to talk about turning change into opportunity."
In other words I got to watch people like Eric Schmidt CEO of google, Peter Thiel, Barry Diller, and other billionaires deliver awesome and informative speeches, and got to see a bunch of new tech startups demo their products some of which are honestly mindblowing. The one that won the startup competition (and 50k), qwiki.com, doesn't have a demo online yet but it's basically like the search engine from the movie Wall-E where you get an information experience rather than just reading text on a webpage. The other one I liked was www.cloudflare.com which if you own a website, will make your website run faster and more secure, for free. The other conference, CrowdConf (on crowdsourcing) is on Monday where I hope to meet my hero Tim Ferriss (author of the Four Hour Work Week).
I really liked TechCrunch Disrupt, gained a ton of inspiration, motivation, and direction. I'm not sure what I want to end up creating in my life after poker but it's likely going to be in the realm of tech (although I have no formal dev training at all). If you're in the same alley feel free to pm me we can talk, especially if you're an actual software engineer/developer/etc.
Poker-wise, still a bit shy of my pure-100k graph - Really wanted to put that up this month I'm only a few Gs away. Going to try to put in more hands in October, coach Sanai who won the free coaching offer. Overall if I can make 150k this year I'm going to be pretty happy (though I set a pretty farfetched 200k goal when the year started), especially considering how few hands I have on the year. It really just makes you think that if you put in 2x the time and 2x the hands (or any other amount), how much more money you'd be making and how that stacks up with the rest of the world. I could be making bottom range CEO money if I played poker at full-time hours probably, but that would never happen because I'd hate life tremendously and it's impossible for me to sustain quality poker play for that long consistently. Pretty low-content blog post so I'll end it with this sweet hand: http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/861379 ship the free PS3

| | Day 2 by Venrae, September 30
Yesterday was fucked up. Actually the day was pretty fine, I got up after noon which sucked but whatever it's all good. I played a bit of poker, went and go groceries made dinner, it was all good. ~10 pm I decided to try working out again because fuck it I'm getting out of shape. Turns out that is a horrible idea after having a shitty diet forever. It also doesn't help that I'm really good at pushing myself as hard as possible. I got the puking sensation so I head to the bathroom and sit down in front of the toilet, figure I'll just get this out grab some water and back at it as long as I'm not all light headed and shit. So I'm sitting there, waiting to puke but I'm really fucking tired for some reason. I actually fall asleep sitting on the bathroom floor. I wake up freaking out because I've never been this exhausted before. Sitting up straight actually made me dizzy and start throwing up. So I decide hauling my ass to the shower is the best idea because I figured that is the safest place to pass-out in my current state. I was there for about ten minutes because as soon as I feel semi-ok I try to stand up which was a horrible Idea. Back to the toilet for me. I spend the next hour just trying to sit up straight without puking. Eventually I get so I can sit up and I crawl my ass out to the living room to grab my water, which brings me back to puke mode so I run my ass back to the bathroom. I did get water though so I was victorious. I have no idea how long I sat on the toilet trying to move but I'm freezing at this point and I just want to go to sleep so bad. Somehow I got myself to the couch safely and lay down around 2:30am. Probably the shittiest and scariest night I've had in a long time.
And now for something completely different:

I'm gonna be taking today slowly obviously. I woke up around 12:30 but I still feel like shit. Gonna make sure I eat a lot of good stuff today.

| | Pokerstars block users from Washington State by curtinsea, September 30
I woke up this morning to discover that I can no longer play real money games on Pokerstars, due to a recent decision by the State Supreme Court to uphold the state's ban on online gambling.
State democrats in the legislature and the Governor passed a law effectively making online poker a class c felony, same as child rape, while taking money from the tribes who run lucrative casino operations in the state. At the same time as she is taking contributions from the tribes, the governor has given them a sweetheart deal where the state gets very little in proceeds from their operations.
All challenges to the law have failed and now Pokerstars has blocked users from the state from playing real money games.
30 September 2010 - PokerStars today announced that it would cease providing real-money poker to residents of Washington State. To date, PokerStars has operated in Washington on the basis of legal opinions where the central advice was that the state could not constitutionally regulate Internet poker, or at least could not discriminate in favor of local cardrooms and against online sites. Last week, however, the Washington Supreme Court for the first time rejected that position and upheld the state's Internet gaming prohibition.
In light of this decision, following extensive consultation with our legal advisors, we believe that the right course of action is to now block real money play by Washington residents on the PokerStars.com site. This policy will remain in effect until the law changes or subsequent legal challenges succeed. Our decision to block real money play in Washington does not affect the balance of funds in customer accounts, which remain completely safe. Our payment services team continues to be available to Washington State residents to assist with cashout requests.
We regret this decision, which will no doubt disappoint our customers in Washington State. However, in all of the jurisdictions where we operate, we are committed to making responsible decisions that are based on a full and considered understanding of the most up-to-date legal advice.
PokerStars remains supportive of passing sensible Internet poker regulation in the United States that will provide much-needed tax revenues and formalize consumer protections. PokerStars operates under those conditions, complying with rigorous licensing regimes, for its worldwide operations in the Isle of Man (UK), and for local operations in Italy, France and Estonia.

| | EPT london highroller by MezmerizePLZ, September 30
Sup yo.
I am trying to sell up to 40% of myself in the EPT London highroller, 20k pound entry fee, which I think is around 32k USD. I'll be buying in via pokerstars so %'s will be bought via pokerstars client. I played the event last year and busted day 1, the field was tough but I think there is still value.
PM me if interested, %'s are not confirmed unless i respond. tourney is still a few days away and im not 100% sure if i'm going to play it yet.

| | My first tell by NewbSaibot, September 30
Back when I was playing live NL200 earlier this week I stumbled across my first real exploitable tell. On 4 separate occasions I had villains betting like $12 into $80 pots. Now I assumed this was partly because they dont really keep track of the pot size so they're just firing out some minuscule bet based on the strength of their hand because it makes them feel good.
And then I was like fuck that. I made what would be my normal river value bet of like $60, and they folded. I really began paying attention to their bet sizes on every street, and noticed all too often they were simply making really inappropriate bets, usually half pot or less. I never noticed this before because when I'm in a pot it's because I raised, and therefore they all just call and "check to the raiser". So I just started raising any bet postflop regardless of my hand if I deemed it "unworthy". $30 pot and you bet $7? Raise. And just like that I stole it every time.
Sample size is like 10 hands but I feel good about this. My only concern goes back to what I first mentioned, that they arent really paying attention to the pot size, therefore their betsize has little to do with it. But seriously, when theres a mountain of red chips you should be able to fucking guesstimate whats in there, theres no excuse for these ridiculously small bets they keep making.

Hi LP,
I'm a long-time lurker here and as i decided to take poker more seriously, i also took the decision to start a blog. I began poker 2 or 3 years ago with some friends, then discovered that i could play on the internet. I read my first article, i learned the basic odds and I was sure to be one the top player worldwide... From there, i spend some time into improving my SnG skills. I'm still a low BI player but i have a little more knowledge than 2 years ago (not so bad huh!).
I now want to switch to cash game. I'm beginning in NL10 to get used to the basics of the thing. I was wondering after how many hands will i get a good estimation of my play. (10k hands sounds good to get a first view?) I'll try to post some hands to improve and get your help.
Thx for reading LP

| | Curiouser & curiouser by NewbSaibot, September 29
A few hours into the night playing NL50 live everyone decides they want to play a $10 rebuy + 1 addon SNG. I'm already tilted after getting 1 outered AA vs A3 (someone showed the case 3) and "flipping" AKo vs JTo aipf, so I oblige. I've played SNG's before, and have a basic grasp of push/fold mode, stealing blinds, pounding short stacks, etc. But what is this? Suddenly, the people calling 6BB raises in our cash game with hands like 82s and whatever the fuck, have all become a bunch of tamed timid little monkies. Awww, im sorry, does the threat of busting out suddenly influence your decisions my pet? Are you short already by level 3 because you limp folded half your stack away and now even a basic preflop raise puts you to a decision for all your chips?
Wow, these fucknuts suddenly went from being the loosest donks in the history of poker to the tightest nits you've ever seen. And when they finally do decide to get it in, the 30/70 flip they're being offered holds and they bust. Or they're a favorite and lose to variance. I'm liking this. Thats the one thing I always did like about tourney's, letting donks knock each other out for you, and improving your EQ as a result of them dropping out. One less idiot to contend with.
I win the first one for $100 1st place, "fuck yea". I got it in bad a couple of times BvB, but with some sick luck outdrew my opponents. They played it terribly anyway. Flatting A6o in the BB, flopping TP, and waiting till the turn to stack off. GTFO. We play a few more that I bust from and then the game goes back to cash. BOOM, here come the suckouts. I get felted AQs vs 73s. I'm having a pretty hard time holding it together and not just lashing out at everyone, so he says (and I shit you not) "theres a method to the madness man. I was dealt this exact same hand my previous hand. 73dd twice in a row? I had to call" Just like fucking that. Naturally flop came 797 for him.
Soooooooo... maybe I'll stick my head in a few more low stakes SNG's. I always hated the concept of playing for an hour just to win $0, but I fucking love using my edge to just completely fuck up their ability to play, and letting other players do some of the work for me at the same time.

| | ah, can't resist the poker bug by requiem, September 29
brief background: after playing 100nl regularly last oct and running pretty well I took some poor shots at 200nl, and then fizzled trying to play 100plo. eventually I cashed out and did not play poker for a year. until now again, put $1K onto full tilt started with playing some NL25, NL25rush (wow this is new to me), PLO25 rush aggressively taking shots at NL50. finally broke through after failing the first 2 attempts and on a huge heater.
last 6 sessions:

been watching a ton of videos and reading a lot of books to build more knowledge. would be cool to have some people near these stakes to talk hands with, just because i feel bad for flooding the forum lol
hope to take shot at 100nl asap ...
