Weeeeeeee

I almost don't want to play anymore now, what if I can't repeat this :D (first heater in a month, feels so goooooood).

What kind of minimum buyin-requirement should I follow if I continue to play 26/21 or thereabouts? I'm guessing my old 25buyin-> move up, might be a bit risky :c

400nl (Climbing out of the shit-hole!) by capaneo, March 13

So as u guys know I've been shooting @ 400nl past few days and oh boy am I running bad! I'm loosing the most fuckin ridicilous pots I've seen the past few weeks. I'm basically sitting on all the 9max tables(which is around 7-9 most of the times) and then do the rest of the table 6maxs(12 tabling FTW!!!!)

So since I have a big BR i've been able to put up with this shit and I managed to come back just when I was on the edge of moving down to 200nl Which is a good thing!
Yesterday went good and I managed to finish the day with profit of over 5-6buy-ins even though I had some really sick beats(1 set under set for $800 pot and one KK vs AA for 1000 pot and one str8 vs a higher str8 in a 3way all-in for $2000pot!)

But today has been even worse I've been running like hell bad. (u can see the hands I've posted)Today I started really good and won like $3000 in a short time but then I lost a huge pot to an abseloute fuckin donk who sucked out on my like 5min before that!(FIRST HAND, SECOND HAND) which made me go nuts and after that I just ended up breaking even for my last 3k hands of the session finishing the day up like $2000 which is kinda OK I think but still I could be up like 5k if it wasn't for the coolers

So anyway I'm still down like 2k(a little less I think) from my peak points which I guess is kinda all-right.

Here is a graph for 400nl so far.
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l273/capaneo/400nl.jpg

Another news is that I'm goin to Mexico for like 5-6days in 2 weeks which means I wont be able to play poker. So this month won't be even as near as profitable as FEB.

VPP update: 170k I think I'm kinda way behind schedual here as well

today by lil.sis, March 13

http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/9860/grandcanyonxg3.jpg

Things started looking good around hand 700, and then I got TWO UNDERSETS IN A ROW

there's always tomorrow

i really need to stop blowing buy-ins on stupid decisions. i made a really horrible move today. i pushed a straight flush draw on a 3-flush board in a 3-way pot with a PSB in front of me and a caller. what a fish! if it weren't for stupid mistakes i would have finished even today

every session is a lesson learned

PP Gold status and progress update by Joe, March 13

So yesterday I finally reached the gold status on partypoker, which means I will be getting 2x the amount of partypoints a player with blue status (= starting status) would get. Not that PartyPoints are all that good, but any rakeback boost I can get is welcome.

As for poker, I have been doing decent in past few days. I kept playing NL600 and so far I am beating the game for a winrate of like 4.5ptbb/100, with which I am satisfied, although I know it could have been a lot better hadnt I made several really bad mistakes.

Anyways, I played quite a lot of hands and because I moved up recently, I made a lot of money already, at least a lot compared to what I have been used to make before.

Here are my results for March so far:
http://www.pokergamers.hzik.com/img/joe/poker_march_till13.jpg

Note: the few hands of NL50 are cuz of I was making a video for czech poker community at pokergamers.cz (my website).

On another note, I have visited Spring Poker Festival in Vienna the last weekend for 3 days. It was an interesting trip for me, because I never played in a big casino before. I played NL 1E/2E, in which I lost some money due to cold deck and me not being able to adapt very good to the type of game (1-tabling, very slow, shortstacked, stations). I sometimes got bored and made shitty plays I wouldnt make otherwise. But of course I dont really mind, I lost less than what I can make playing online in 1 day.

Also, Tonny G. was there, so I watched him play a bit. He played some high stakes Omaha game, not sure but I think it was fixed limit 200/400 or something like that. It was quite funny when he went busto in one big hand and got angry and left the casino like immediately with some harsh comments

Party NL200 by Fayth, March 13

So i decided to move up like about a week ago and honestly i've seen no changes from NL100 to NL200, Party is pretty easy, i had a bad run 2 days ago mixed with bad play. I was being too agressive, repopping too much pre flop when I actually only needed to play pretty straightforward on PP and get paid off. So i started playing a bit more passively pre flop, seems like it's working pretty well so far.

I make plays here and there but mostly play GOOD SOLID POKER! weee ABA ftw...

So anyway here's my graph:

That's it for todayz! Good luck everyone!

Break from robotic NL100 FR poker by Tycho, March 13

Well I'm done with NL100 FR for a while. After quite a long time of playing, I'm down 5 buy ins and mostly break even after sessions (reasons: bad run, impatience sometimes). Now my BR can take it ($3600), and I could patiently wait for me to start winning gradually again, but I decided otherwise.

I' m just mainly playing some fun tournaments now, like Omaha Hi / Lo, Omaha PL, Studd, Horse etc. It's really fun to learn different games dynamics (FR is so robotic) and the competition is horrible. I'm still playing NL cash games as well, but only 6 max on low limits: NL25 / NL50 6max on UB. Besides that I'm playing some 6max PLO cash games, and most of the tables are FULL of fish.

I might do a little bit of a write up if I really start winning big at a different game type. If not, I' ll start blogging again when I am confident enough in my 6max game to do NL100 6 max. It's just nice to have so much fun in poker again! Fun, fun, fun. Fun is fun.

WEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeee by TianYuan, March 13

Ok, first things first - some of you may know me as frozenarbiter back on Teamliquid, and yeah, just wanted to mention that.

2nd, why am I writing this? Cause I've had a horrible bad run and I'm finally out of it (I think) and I feel fucking fantastic :D!

Anyway, I started playing poker with the help of GroT, back in late november 2006, really enjoyed it and by the end of december I was a silverstar and rolled for NL25 (yeah, I 12tabled sickening amounts, while watching the simpsons/futurama).

NL25 full ring.. was unkind to me. For whatever reason, my fearless raising of pocketpairs and constant cbetting (yeah, a bit unusual for full ring NL10 I guess) wasn't working at all here (probably also had a lot to do with the money being a lot more to me and therefore leading to me playing less confidently), lost like 200$+ in 2 days (but hey, I made silverstar once more for january).

Np tho, I was on a sickening heater at this time - I had beaten NL10 for 100$++/day for a few days before moving to NL25, and after my downswing (if you can call it that) I proceeded to make back 20 buyins in 2 days (yeah..).

NL25 full ring still sucked so I decided to move to 6max which worked out pretty damn well, and by the end of the month I took my first stab at NL50 (with only 20 buyins tho, I had lost several times when I had close to 25 and was getting frustrated.. silly me).

SOOoooo, I move up with 1000$, game feels the same.. then 5 bad beats later, I move back down to NL25. Np, I'll just rebuild, right? Yeah.. Unfortunately I don't think I ever reached 800$ again, I lost several buyin pots everytime I reached 790.

I was probably tilting quite a bit and playing waaaaaaay too much, but at the end of 3-4~ days, once the dust settled, I had around 430$ left and decided that enough was enough - NL10 let's go.

I proceeded to drop 10 buyins - instantly.

OK, at this point I was slightly confused. I can't beat NL10? Wtf? Yeah. This was like early february..

I spend 1 month never winning more than 5 buyins at once, often dropping more.. Win rate of like 2bb/100 .. yeah, ughhhhhhhh.

Today I finally realized why.

After losing 3+ buyins to some huge donkeys after I'd been patient and waited for premium hands, I kinda blew a fuse, went berserk on my boxing bag, randomly allined in the 1$ tournament I was in and then opened 12 tables of NL10 and fucking killed it.

3000 hands

+14.5 buyins.

Super aggro play, started off the session by raising almost any 2 cards in position, and sometimes out of it, cbetting and reraising when someone was weak, etc. After a while, I could almost open push the nuts and get called.

FUN :D!

So yeah, almost back to NL25 (I was actually even closer at one point a week or two back but I screwed it up). 555$ bankroll.

Wee. Not quite the 1000$ I had a month ago, but yeah, what can you do.

Also, got samsung monitor from FPP store = awesome.

Maybe now I'll finally stop pestering foolsplay/midian/grot about the ridiculous beats I recieve - afterall, it's hard to get too upset when you don't play just premium hands..

First tilt session at NL100 by DustySwedeDude, March 13

So today I tilted a bit. I made a few overly optimistic plays and called a few hands I should’ve folded but it wasn’t that bad. I decided to do some schoolwork today instead of playing more when I was down 3 Buy ins.

Anyway, so far in march and while playing NL100, I moved up just 2 weeks ago, I’ve made a little over 30 buy ins in 16k hands and that’s obviously pretty decent. A bit over 10bb/100 according to poker tracker. My new “goal” is to play 25k hands every month while in school and move up to NL200 in 2 months or so. I’ll probably try to withdraw 3k or so when my BR hit 6k and then move it back up to 6k again before moving up. I know that I’m moving up really slow but I really think that it’s somewhat ok anyway since I plug leaks all the time anyway and I try to invest some of my money in stocks and such as I wrote before. I could probably push myself a little harder but I don’t really react good to stress and even if I’m not very proud of that trait I’ll just have to deal with it untill I get better at it. Right now I feel that if I can play +30k hands/month during the summer and and make 6k or 7k each month during that time it’ll be good enough for me and far more then I could’ve hoped for a year ago or even half a year ago.

Goals for march:

4k winnings (800 USD left)
25k hands (about 9k left)
Do enough school stuff
Be more social then last month (basicly talk to people who doesn’t play poker)

Bad Bad Session by Critterer, March 12

why cant i have some fucking stable luck for once, i go on a mass heater then i get hit by a masss suckout drawn out on session it dont make sense.

Got stacked/virtually stacked about 8 times this session, Virtually all of them being with my money in when im ahead and then getting drawn out on, fucking ridiculous. Flopped flush vs set which boats up kinda shit.

River card seemed to own me every time but thats poker.

O well, at least i know that im still up overall, it just really confuses me how my luck seems to vary so massively.

Shit happens though.

25nl just moved further away~

Finished session down about ~4.5 buyins which isnt tooooo bad considering how incredibly retarded my luck was.

Big plans, bad connection by fanta[Rn], March 12

Good news everyone, eventhough I'm half a buyin down from my today's bankroll high I'm still up a bit more than 1 buyin.

I didn't play as much as I wanted today. The tables were really terrible to play this afternoon so I decided to play while it's dark outside.
After quickly winning 2 buyins I had a huge down and lost almost 4 buyins in just a few hands.
http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/8862/nl501203qm3.png
I was a bit steaming so I decided to stop playing for a while, that and because FTP went down for some hours which left me with little to do.
I was playing some CS with my friend and I raped dronebabo later eventhough I was lagging alot on his crappy selfhosted server.

Aftewards I was ready to play some poker again, I decided I'd like to play at least 5,000 hands over 12 tables. Unfortunely my connection went out for some time and I didn't feel like playing anymore. Here's today's graph.
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/2449/nl501203xi2.jpg

I'd be up at least 1 more buyin but I lost a set to a guy who called my shove with a gutshot and a flushdraw. The river helped him out as he completed both draws. Nonetheless I liked the hand.

This also leads me to think that I might play my sets too transparently. And I shouldn't shove them all the time for just a minraise. I should reraise instead of shoving, or what do you think?

Anyway, I'm off for some futurama and eventually the new HSP.

So long

More on counting again and poker. by Adaptation, March 12

----------Poker----------
Today was very good, considering my tiny bankroll only allows me single tabling.

Bank Roll:32$(+8)

Finished in the money in a Freeroll, and mainly destroyed a shorthanded game NL4. I luckboxed once, but mainly i outplayed the kids and their pennies. However so far i like Full rings better, because in short handed games the variation is greater, and with my limited amount i can barely deal with variation. But on the other hand shorthanded games at low stakes are much less skilled...

----------Counting----------

As i said previously, i will hit the casino next wednesday. For now, i will continue to elaborate on Blackjack in general. This post i will explain what is Card counting and how it works.

First of all, the system i will explain is known as the HIGH-LOW counting system. The first thing any count system will display is the value it gives to cards. For HI-lo, they are

2(+1), 3(+1), 4(+1), 5(+1), 6(+1), 7(0), 8(0), 9(0), 10 (-1), A(-1)

As you see each card come out of the shoe(you must start to count right after the deck was shuffled, obviously), you remember its value and add it up(or remove) to the count, which is usually called: The Running count.

Let us say that you hold 2(+1),7(0),10(-1).
The player next to you holds 4(+1),6(+1),5(+1).
You both stand and the dealer turns his card, showing 7(0),10(-1).
He stands according to casino rules. So the Running count would be +2. Now the higher the count is, the better it is for the player. So next hand you are more likely to hit 20 or 21. Quite simple so far right? Thats almost all of it.

One last thing one needs to do is to divide the Running Count by the number of decks left in the Blackjack shoe. Why? Because having a Running Count of +2 means 2 more tens likely to be distributed to players(since dealer gives cards to players before himself). However 2 more ''tens'' in a pack of 200-300 cards dosent mean much. However 2 more ten in a single deck means a lot more. So one needs to follow his running count and divide it by the number of decks to get THE TRUE COUNT. The true count is what makes you bet or leave. Anytime the Truecount is under 1, you should leave the table, that is if you play the typical 6 deck blackjack.

A question one may ask himself is - how do i know how much decks are left. To be honest, my casino leaves it wide open so i can just look and i have a fair idea. You can also look at the discard pile to get an idea of it. If absolutely everything is hidden just take in mind the following ratio -
In average, players will use 3 cards.

(Number of Players x 3) multiplied by the number of hands played since the beginning of the shoe = number of cards played.

However from what iv seen, the discard pile or shoe is visible enough for you to get a good idea of the number of decks.

The next question is, what do i do with the True count? Well, the higher the better. The safest is obviously, to card count behind the table, wait until the True count hits +2 or more, start betting, and if it hits under +2, leave and go the next table. Of course this requires patience, but it is the safest and best way to bring down the house.

Each True Count usually adds +0.5% to the player, therefor hitting when you have +2 turns the edge in your favor, if you play perfect basic strategy.

To finish, i gotta say that you do not need to be a genious to card count, neither does it have to take a long time to learn. In a week of training(3-4 hours a day), i learned how to count and i got benefits when i hit my casino. I have to say that there is a lot more to counting then this, but for now i will stop there because i believe that is big enough(especially for a blog on a poker site!)

Next post i will go over what are the best(and worst) rules of blackjack(very important).

Edit: BTW grot, a 6 deck is beatable, how easy it is depends largely on the rules though.

New monitor + little bad session by PetrBlaha, March 12

Yesterday I've decided to make a minor investment. I've cashed out precious 200$ from my BR to buy a new 21`CRT monitor. It's because I have now 17` and 15` monitors (how professional !!) so I want to improve number of tables which should give me more money (with those 6 tables I'm really bored now)

Today I've played for about hour, first I've got to somewhere like +20$ but then several C-bets failed and then I've lost 1bi on KK on AAx board where my oponnent luckboxed AQ. Another buyin was with AK on AKx board when my oponnent had KK.
The first one was maybe mistake but this AK hand was just bad luck.

So with that investment and bad session my BR was hit badly down to 800$ (I've got some 50$ bonus ahead). But I think it's still ok, I will play some NL25 until I have about 1100$ then I'll play NL50 again.

12th March 07
BR : 800$ (-310$ (200$ on new monitor))
stakes :0.25/0.5$
