/drool

I would so love to play it but my sensible side is saying to unregister, I'm a NL25/50 player, thoughts?

If I unregister the $215 gets shipped straight into my account?

The Year of the Donkey by k2o4, January 01

Well I'd have to say my run @ NL100 has me feeling like I am the donkey, but overall it has been a good year and I am on track with all of my goals! I really wanted to be @ NL100 by the end of December and that has been achieved. I'd like to make it to NL200 by the end of January but I'm not going to rush that. I'm gonna move up with 25 buy-ins @ the very least and maybe 30. I also still have a hell of a lot to learn as I am definitely NOT a favorite @ NL100 right now.

I feel like I might be @ NL100 for quite a bit because the truth is there are enough good players here that I can start practicing being a bit trickier. I want to open up my game and become a solid lag player, and I think this is a great limit to do it at. I feel like trying to learn a bunch of new stuff @ NL200 is going to be way too hard. So my plan is to really focus on LAG CardRunner Videos and get good at opening up my PFR range. Then I want to add some new tricks to my postflop play and get much better at hand reading so that I can value bet thinner and also bluff more profitably.

The big change is that I used to check/fold a lot and now I've started check/calling with things like TP marginal kicker. I've also started continuation betting a bit less and check raising a bit more, while also check / calling vs aggressive players and catching bluffs much more often. Overall, it's a lot more like playing the poker that I've read about and watched video's on which was never possible to do down in the microstakes.

I'm really happy that I started posting here on LP.net. I've met a lot of cool guys and many people who have been helping me out on hands and who have started replying to my blog somewhat consistently. I definitely think that a lot of my improvement was thanks to the LP community. It also helps to get past tilt and downswings when you have so many other people going through the same stuff with you. This must be what it's like to go to consistent AA meetings.

As far as non-poker life goes, things are quite good. I'm moving to Costa Rica by the end of January. I'd like to be @ NL200 before I got, but who knows if that will happen. I have a lot of work to do to organize that move and also finish up all my obligations here in Colorado. I'd rather just move to a nice apartment in Boulder, but I have to go down to Rica for work and I've given a promise to do it. Oh well. Only like 9 months and then I'm free to do as I please, and hopefully by that time the poerk winnings will be big enough that I can totally support myself through poker.

Things are going well with the girlfriend. We tend to have 1 big fight every month, but once we get it out of our system we're golden for a while. Also both gotten much better at not fighting about little things and supporting each other when the other one is feeling down. She did the christmas tour with me and met all of my family, and they all loved her. She was great and it made me feel really happy to see her getting along with everybody. We're planning to go out and get some sort of oriental foot massage thing and see a movie today. Either Charlie Wilson's war or Alien Vs Predator or P.S. I love you. Try and guess which movie was my choice, which was her choice, and which we both want to see =)

I really want to travel LESS this year and spend more time focusing on self improvement. Mental and physical. I feel like I've lost sight of a lot of things and pretty much poker is the only place I've stayed consistent. Haven't done much to try and improve in any other areas in my life. I really need to get back to focusing on my body cause I have serious neck pain. Also, it would be nice to be cut again and if we're gonna be in Rica there's a lot more potential beach time. Gotta be looking good.

Umm, that's about all I can think of for now. I guess it's ok to do such a long post since it's the year end wrapup and all that jazz. Let's do some graph's and things to show how my first year of NL cash games went. Sadly it all started on August 22nd so it's only like 4 months, but that's ok.

My first poker year by Oddeye, January 01

I tried poker for the first time something like a year ago (slightly less I think) I was playing penny stakes and didn't have much of a clue and was swinging pretty much up and down. Didn't play a lot nor did I put enough effort for like the first 5-6 months and since September I started putting much more thought and it actually improved my winrate a while lot.

December was the best month ever for me, I won over 15k$ and didn't play that many hands. Everything went pretty good at NL400/NL600 and I ended the year with 25,4k$+1.6k$ RB and on January 1st I made 1k already. I am going to be baller and set an objective to make at least 75k this year, I'm confident it will be doable, maybe I won't, hopefully I will. However I'm not so confident in moving up to NL1k, that might come later if I believe my skill have improved but I don't feel ready yet. I don't have any graph because PT fucks up so bad with UB. So goodluck at the tables, happy new lucky year!

2NL training vid for beginners by JoeDeertay, January 01

My bro said that he wanted to learn how to play poker and he got me a PC mic for Christmas, so I thought I'd make a training video for him or anyone else who'd want to use it. I decided to 4-table 2NL fullring. Check it out and tell me what you think!

http://www.driveway.com/jekzy01902

(about 1:12 long and filesize = 105MB)

I'm pretty sure it works...there should be sound and it shouldn't be zooming around with the Zoom-n-Pan feature that Camtasia likes using. I tried to include as much info as I could that would help someone who is just learning the game and I hope it's helpful. Thanks for watching and any feedback would be great!

Peace and GL!

Heads up! by Fayth, January 01

So last night i played some 2/4 HU regular on 2 tables for about 3 or 4 hours, that was def the sickest match i've ever been in, i've managed to not spew or tilt too much despite the fact that i would get sick setups for super deep pots. Here are some of the hands.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/349266 hesitated then called, then he obv said "unlucky" ass

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/349269 -_-;

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/349271 prob the only hand that i really sucked out

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/349278 SO LUCKY

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/349302 Can you say setup?

ttp://www.liquidpoker.net/h/349534

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/349325 booooooooooom moron said he mucked a 4 lol

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/349337 weee

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/349352 woopee (that was the last hand of our match)

Most of these are the big hands, there were tons of other 50-200bb pots that i didn't post, he was completely crazy, 3 betting a ton, i was about never 3betting light and he was still always calling and he lost a lot of money from doing this. All in all i've won 10 buy ins from the guy, was a nice start for 2008 I've improved quite a bit the past 3 days and will keep doing so!

Super Happy New Year!!!

Outlook for 2008 MMA / Poker by Fox, January 01

Some goals that i've set for myself in 2008 especially for MMA.

I'm looking to make a major push by summer/fall. I'd really like to get a few fights in and then see about applying for a spot on the ultimate fighter. This is gonna be tough because I work a normal job (a really good/fun one) and I hope they would let me take leave for about 1-2 months without quitting.

Right now one thing that i'm working on is what weight class do i want to shoot for. I'm changing my diet around and i've stopped lifting weights and i'm working on just cardio/technique/sparring see where my body takes it. Currently i'm 6'3" and about 225-235 (i was about 235-245 months ago) When i was playing college basketball i was about 205 but i bulked up in muscle/extra fat. I'm still a fit guy but i'm just more broad I want to be more quick like i was in basketball days. I'd like to cut most of my fat down to more of a 5-9% level and reduce my muscle mass slightly.

I'd like to fight at 185 and be okami (his style is so me) but if i can't make 185 i'll bulk up for 205 and cut from like 225-230. I'm taller and about the same size as rampage/chuck right now. I don't mind fighting at 205 but 185 sound so appealing if i can cut it perfectly from 205-210. In any case I should be in a few grappling tournaments in the upcoming months then have a fight soon after. It's hilarious how much training/diet/etc matters more then fighting. I mean i knew it did back in the day but the more I get into mma it's all about the training. While my gym isn't anything huge I do live in colorado which is about 6 hours from New Mexico where Greg Jackson's camp is. I've visited them a few times and a dream would be after getting on TuF and doing well to go down there and train with them full time.

Of course poker fits into this equation somewhat. I'd like to do poker on the side to sustain me financially while i do MMA. So many thing to do and I can't get them going any faster. I still have major holes when i'm on my back so that's one facet i'm looking to improve on. I also have holes in my poker game. Thankfully i have people on both mma/poker who are willing/able to help train me to improve.

So far so good i'm looking to purchase a bike this upcoming month for cardio when it's like super cold outside. I have a treadmill but it's far too loud and i can't watch motivational videos like ufc/pride/ANIME while I train. Wife also trains I dunno if i have mentioned that so we are both looking to pool together to get a heavy bag for both of us.

Some serious thoughts on the upcoming bouts we have. Joe vs BJ and Dan vs Anderson. Joe vs BJ is gonna be so insane. Does BJ take Joe seriously? Joe has some serious power and will. I don't know if he's a cardio freak for 5 rounds but i can tell you now his cardio is better then what BJ has shown. IN skill and technique obviously i give BJ the nod but Joe is not a slouch his ground especially top position is wicked good. I really look this fight to be a war and i'm actually gonna pick that Joe can pull an upset in a decision. I think his power and skill can weather BJ for the few rounds and when BJ slows down he can continue to get top position to get a victory. Honestly though BJ submitting him in the 1st/2nd round is possible. But i do think a lot of people are already giving BJ the title and man it's not gonna be easy.

As for Dan vs Anderson I do think that this is a very very hard matchup for Dan. A long guy who has great accurate lengthy strikes. Yeah Silva likes to MT it up which plays into Dans' Grecco but why bother when you can just hit him with meteors from far away? The way Anderson handled Marquardt and Rich franklin (who are both powerful guys) I hope Dan's FAR FAR better then them.. but at 185 he hasn't really shown us dominance. However! never seen dan lose to strikes ever (submission sure) so in a 5 round fight.. very curious what's gonna happen as the fight goes on and people get tired atheltic sprawls aren't as ez to come by. I don't see how dan wins this, but i don't see how anderson finishes Dan. So Anderson by decision?

Generic New year update! by kantoiki, January 01

http://www.warezagent.com/uploads/posts/1167495638_happy_new_year_index.jpg

Happy New Year, had a good time with a bunch of good mates and we got to watch the fireworks and then just lounge around drinking and relaxing.
Nothing exciting but pretty good end to the year

Poker related: I played a 2.5k hand session before I went out to meet up with friends on New Years Eve because I felt guilty that I hadn't put in enough hands this month (not my fault, just so much events and my general inability to find motivation...okay so my fault).
Anyway did alright and I thought I'd post up my December graph, nothing special and definitely need to play more hands this year.

http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/7852/decalles6.jpg

I seriously need to get more motivation in general, won't bother making a New years resolution in regards to it since its bound to fail...
So instead I'll probably make multiple bets with friends in an attempt to force me to do SOMETHING but will probably ultimately result in me failing AND owing them all money.

Awesome.

Anyway I'd write some more but I want to play some guitar hero before I sleep

First Live Experience =) by collegesucks, January 01

So I went down to Tampa, FL this week with my brother, cousins, and a friend of mine. I only realized when I got there that there was a casino in Tampa that lets 18+ play (until today so I got really lucky).

So I brought my brother and my degenerate gambler friend down there for the 1/2 game. The buy-in cap was kinda shitty at 50BB but whatever.

My brother went broke about 30 minutes into the game, shoving his entire buy-in with his AKs pf and getting called by a drunk A10s and an 88... the A10 caught a 10 and won a 250+ dollar pot lol.

my friend was up to around $360 making a huge river call with 77 on a board of 3 6 8 J 8 against a 44's AI at the river. Plus, he's so pathologically aggressive that he pretty much bluffed out almost every other hand after the pocket 7s all the way up to $360. Eventually though, he got caught bluffing against pocket Kings and lost about $160 in one hand. His last hand was a bad beat against pocket 10s that rivered a set against his KK.. the money did go in on a blank flop.

I was playing abnormally tight since it was my first trip to the tables, but I did try to make some strong positional plays with suited connectors, pps, and Axs+. One interesting hand went like this...

I open mid/late with A2hh for 4xBB and get one caller from the BB. The board is all low cards, all black, so when he checks, I opt to forego the cbet and check behind him. The turn comes another black king and the guy checks again. I feel like it's time to make my move so I bet out for $10, about half the pot, which he calls. Now, at the river I get my ace, but interestingly enough, the guy leads this time with $24 dollars! The flop was all low cards, so at best the guy had a pair of kings here. I don't think a two pair is in his range because I've been playing really really tight and he's no donk so I figure he would have folded his Ace-rags pf anyway. He checked the flop AND turn so a set seemed unlikely. He certainly was not THAT bad of a player I thought. Following the same logic, I figured that an AK would have bet out at the turn, and it was doubtful that he would call the turn with A9-AQ so I decided to just go ahead and call. I show my ace-rag and he mucked. I think he had like J10s hoping I would fold my pair of kings to the scary ace. It was a really quick move by him on the river so it threw me off for a minute but I ended up making the right call eventually.

But I threw out about 80 dollars a few hands later playing my AK TPTK against a set of Queens. The board was Q x K rainbow. He checks, I bet, he raises all in for wayy over the pot and I call. I should have paused for a moment considering a possible set or KQ, but I blindly called the raise and got owned. The TPTK vs. set dilemma has been the bane of my online play at 10NL, and it just decided to follow me allll the way over here to FL... meh.

The third fun hand of the table came when a young but experienced player limped in UTG in the dark. He was on some kind of a ridiculous run, esp. after he lost his flop set of 7s to a set of Qs, which improved to a four of a kind. So he was on a semi-tilt or something I guess. I was SB and I saw like five people limping in before me so I limped in with 98o. The flop came 8 9 6 rainbow and I immediately bet out at the pot amount. Amazingly enough, my gambler friend sitting on the BB re-popped me. He's extremely aggressive, so his hand ranged from at least a top pair to a straight. Considering the strength of my hand, I would definitely go broke against him with my hand. It didn't end there, however, as my decision was made a hell of a lot more difficult when the UTG reraised all in for ~60 dollars. I tanked for a couple of minutes before I made the biggest laydown of the night. My buddy proceeded to call with his bottom two and the UTG showed 5 7, giving him a flopped straight (surprise!). Rounders, anyone?

Another interesting hand, and the one that put me in the neg for the entire session was played against a fish who was sitting on a huge stack. I was BB with Q8o and five people limped in, including the douchebag on the button. BTW, he had just won a hand in which he called a 7x BB pf raise with K2s and hit a two pair, plus he played an ace rag hand so aggressively that my respect for his play was pretty much in the gutter. Anyways, back to the hand... the flop came 10 Q 3 rainbow and I checked, planning to fold to anyone except the donk, who by no surprise bet out from the button. I decided to raise him for 2.5 times his bet, after which he asked for my chip count like he was the shit. I had about 95 dollars left in my stack and he pushed me all in. ugh. As disgusting as this situation was, and as stupid as he was, I couldn't think of a satisfactory reason to call, since he could very well have a pair of Queens-higher kicker, Q10, or even a set of 3s, so I muttered "another day", folded, and gave up a pot of about a 100 dollars right there. In restrospect, I'm about 90% sure it was the right fold...

Sadly, I didn't get a chance to play the donk again except for a hand in which I flopped a royal flush draw with my Q10ss on a Js Ks x board from the BB. I was oop but it was the best hand I had seen in a long time so I thought it would be prudent to bet out, representing a Jx Kx two pair. The kid who tried to bluff out my ace pair from one of the earlier hands called, and the donk followed suit. The turned bricked out on me, but I couldn't slow down on such a pretty hand so I bet out 2.5x the flop bet amount. The guy next to me thought for like three minutes before he folded his pair of kings (lol!) and the donk silently folded (meh). I liked the guy who folded since we were both laughing at the fish together so I showed him the beauty of a hand that made him fold and the dealer, seeing this, made me show my hand to the whole table. I got a sigh of disgust from the kid, who asked to see the river card. The dealer peeked at it and announced that it was actually a club, so no flush for me. But then he went on to say that it was a nine, which would have given me the straight, not that it matters to a person who's trying to be as least results-oriented as possible . The kid said I would have eventually sucked out on him, but I argued that it wouldn't have been a true suckout because I was the aggressor. If I had made a laughable call and still won, that would be a suckout in my book.

After about 20 more ragged hands, I found myself dozing off at the table. At this point I had been playing for about 8 hours, straight through the night. At around 7 am I finally decided to leave, down but not without hope.

I ended up down 50 dollars, my brother lost his 100, and the degen lost 260.. lol

It's a price I'd gladly pay for a night of entertainment like this, but hopefully never twice .

I learned one important lesson though... don't overtip. heh.

December review, 2008 preview, general thoughts by gawdawaful, January 01

I finished last month up about $10.6k assorted. I believe I was up in cash games, break even in SNG/tournies and down in NHL bets. Heres a graph of my December:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/c3ab92e931e3396a7858d140dbd2088c.jpg

I ran sick hot, theres no disputing that. But I hope I'm taking my game to a higher level as oppose to just being senselessly aggressive.
Besides sniderstyle and foolsplay who are regulars that I play with fairly often from LP, I don't think anyone else reads my blog here. So I don't mind too much discussing the details of my game.
I find that in general, my play last month was too fearlessly aggressive and was mostly bailed out by a lot of my draws hitting. Loads of my plays didn't make much sense.
To counteract this, I'm planning on simpling up my play. Going to tighten up preflop and hopefully, command more respect post flop to decrease my variance a bit.

In regards to goals for this year, my original plan was to play less poker. Last year, I probably spent over 1000 hours of actually playing. While I can't complain about the amount I've won and the strides I've taken in the latter part of the year, I felt this was hindering other aspects of my life in that I hardly studied/went out/exercised. Around November, I was feeling like shit despite having more money than I had expected at this stage in my life, and that was when I made the decision to try and cut down on poker and workout more.
Fast forward to late December, I saw that sick graph post and it inspired me to want to win more. Or the greed inspired me, w/e. Now I'm split. I've already paid for the years membership and I think that part of my plan will stay in tact. But somethings going to have to give so I have time to keep playing this much. Not sure on whats going to happen yet, but, gonna have to work that out.

Um, dunno what else to say. btw, saw Sweeney Todd last week, was actually pretty good despite it being a quasi-musical. The story line was pretty good and there were loads of blood and stuff, so that was fun.

A reward for reading to the end of my random thoughts, I'm going to recycle one of my favourite pictures of 2007:
http://i.a.cnn.net/si/multimedia/phot...08/gallery.olympicportraits/cohen.jpg

May 2008 be a good one for all of you.

I LIKE TURTLES. by WilsWils, January 01

HELLO LP. LONG TIME NO SEE.

I have returned after a long hiatus, stronger and more powerful than ever before. I struggled at 25nl FR for the longest time, switching to 6 max, plo, and other random shit before a combination of solid SNG play + successfull stab @ 50NL has bounced up my roll.

I believe the last time i made this post i was still dwaddling around 500 or so, im about triple that now (Thank god) and am still grinding away at 50nl, which is pretty fun to play at.

I bounce between 6-7-8 tables, and have tried going beyond that- but my add self just causes me to play worse, so i generally stay around 6-7 tables. Got a beefy rakeback coming in thats almost 1/4 my BR which will be intresting, so i hope to be making some NL100 stabs by mid february.

What else intresting has happened?
-Taking the semester off to build a portfolio to get into graphical design to ultimately major in digital design @ vancouver film school. It'd be a pretty fun career so i hope i get in :<

-I finally got my hands on a free pirated version of PT / PAHUD WHEEEEEEEEEE. I have no fucking idea how to read or use pahud to my advantage tho, so gg me.

-For me, 11$ sngs > grinding 25nlFR , but 50NLFR i find kinda fun and rakeback is alot quicker, so i prefer that, even tho i may be better at sngs, the flexibility of cash is alot better, and i think the possible winrates in the long term (When i move up stakes) is > sngs.

-Did i mention rakeback is great? I'm planning on cashing out 2/3 my monthly rakeback when im at 100nl+ to my IRL account to use as a small reward each time. If i hit a massive downswing, i'll move some back.

-I've improved alot on my note taking, i cant remember whose vid i watched, but he did some great note taking which i copied.

-I've begun to read into hands alot better. there are times when im still too scared to make the hero call , or knowing he'll fold to a shove- but in due time when im more confident and have more money i'll have np doing so.

Hope you're all having a good new year, gl at the tables

(Except vs me)

-Wils

2007 Highlights + 2008 goals by sTrAtO, December 31

-2007 Highlights
-Goals for this new year
-Cars I'd like to be able to buy by the end of this year

2007 Highlights

I started playing poker in February of this year. I have to say that most of my year was spent in learning the microstakes and constant reverse because of my leaks. I kinda have my improvements stopped by constant cash outs, but still, I don't think I had the need to move up the stakes very fast. I don't regret for that, because I want to keep a balance in poker, school and life.

I have 20buyins for NL600 ($12,000) but I'm still playing at NL100. I need to be able to beat NL100 before moving up to NL200, it doesn't matter if I'm rolled for it or not. Most of my money comes from tournament wins, I still need to improve my skills in order to move up at cash games.

I'm going to continue the formula cash games + tournaments, mixing them up. I don't want to become a full MTT or cash game player, I've tried them both and I have to say that I get bored from poker very fast.

Goals for this year

My goals for 2008 are to do well at school, get a girlfriend (lol) to help me with the freaking badbeats and have a nice time, and, of course the poker goal, win at least $50,000 and be able to buy a car with my own money at the very very beginning of 2009. I'm not going to set a limit or tournament buyin as a goal, cause things are going to come at its correct time and I don't wanna be in a rush.

One time yo?
(Suggestions of nice cars are always welcome, obv around $30K-$35K)

Peugeot 207cc. Price is around $27K atm.
