Need your help. by SuperElmo, February 26

Hello, everybody. I am starting this blog in order to clear few things (related or not to poker) and I pretty much look for your feedback. First, I started to play like 2 years ago but without investing much time and effort in this, the results were deplorable… Lost 3 or 4 times the uploaded sum of 35 dollars. By that time (I probably am not so fast in understanding ;-) ) I decided to spare some time for poker theory – read Skalnsky and started to play … let’s say decently. What came next was a lot of work and no time for poker. I started to play again in September 07 and made my 100 bucks around 1k with few cashouts in 3 months playing NL 10. I have cashed out my bankroll from the Prima in January 08 because of the terrible lag. From then until now I have been trying to make a bankroll at B2Be network. I twice upload 50 euro and loose it at NL 4, wow. I simply cannot start wining. The players at these stakes at B2Be are TERRIBLE and I try to keep my style from the Prima and iPoker (I made the 35 free bucks on VCpoker the sum of 300 in two weeks) but I keep loosing, wow. It is not about tilt; it’s just that I have a terrible variance – like 10 allins per day at 20/80 odds are all lost. The situations are absurd – like 3 bet preflop and a shovel with AA and the villain takes me with A5 suited, or Ac As – flop Tc 7c 6c,shovel and the villain catches straight with Ts 8s… They limp all call allins with nothing and still get me. Whatever. Need some info from you – what is the good aggression factor at that loosse 6max game? And is the overbet a good idea for hand protection at 6max full of calling stations? Will appreciate everything you write to me, mostly things such as “you are and idiot, man” especially if they are constructive or impressively sarcastic ;-) Thanks and good luck, all.

kinda phazed by traxamillion, February 26

not too badly though

recently cashed out to buy a car and haven't been playing at all but i got back from santa cruz and wanted to play so i decided to try to get some tourney tokens with my ftp points.

played like 8 600 ftp point STTs and won 2 which earned me 2 26$ tokens.

i took one token to the 17k gtd and got 10th out of about 800 which is decent but shoulda been better if a couple hands would have held at the end but ohh well thats how it goes.

anyways went from 0 in the acct to 190 and a token so not all that bad gonna grind this up i guess and HOPEFULLY i don't have to cashout anymore and can build a real roll!

700bb pot by twotimesopt, February 26

Playing 2/5 live a couple of weeks ago. Effective stacks ~1.7k. Villain is a maniac, capable of calling down very thin and running big bluffs. We have a lot of history, we probably thinks I am an overly aggressive "internet kid".

Folded to me on button (very rare), I raise AA to 20, villain flats from the blinds and we see the flop heads-up. Flop is AJ9r, he check-calls my cbet. Turn another J, I fire again and he check-raises to like $250. I think for a bit while everything inside me is hoping that he hit trips and that I'm about to double up. I 3bet to $600, he stands up and says "all-in", and I do the fastest Phil Hellmuth-style insta-call I have ever done. The table starts laughing and villain just says "fuck". He shows JTo (or something) and I rake the ~3.5k pot.

Day 1 by eelnosaj, February 26

Actually it's not day 1 for me, but I'm definately still at the starting stages. I'm playing 10nl and have finally started to want to learn this game, despite the general consenses that you can't laern much at 10nl. Building that bank roll...

In the meantime, I wondering what the key differences which a succesful player has, which an unsuccesful player does not.

I feel I have nothing much else, and that I have the natural makeup to be good at this game. The only way I can get the answer to that is to play. So here goes.

Switching to 180-man SNGs. by TheHuHu, February 26

They seem pretty easy to crush, especially the $4 180-mans. I think I registered in 12-13 and final tabled two and cashed three total. I don't know if that's good or not but it did boost my BR a bit. I am going to play more $4 180-mans then move up to the next level whatever that is.

should have called it quits by GameOverNoob, February 25

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/7e0b37dd92f0bbc09583f9c2e0bb63c5.jpg

I played someone HU, NL50, lost 3 buyins not because i was playing poorly, but running horribly against one opponent. He wasn't a bad player, passive oop, and not 3betting even close to me but he caught me on terrible situations.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/393186

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/393185 (AK TPTK vs 88 set)

As you can see, the session didn't go my way at all...

I don't think there's anything i could have done differently, i played a very LAG style, with very wide 3bet range, even some light 4betting deeper into the session when he tried playing back at me.

My night went from horrible to bad, then i leveled out and then got owned by someone who i'm clearly superior to.
Tomorrow's another day, im going to have to move back to 6 SH tables for a few days which sets me back about 1 week.

WOW, first massive variance session by GameOverNoob, February 25

i played a session tonight with a terrible state of mind, spwewd off 2.5 buyins HU, and was gonna quit for the night, took a breath and got back in. continued to run terribly, picking off draws and having these fish call me with bottompair open edned for 100bb stacks and kept the pressure on.
- 4.5buyins
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/aa4ccaf4bc03102f01381f9aa36f480e.gif
it took 2hrs, but got everything bak. just kept the pressure on, picking off these fish and finished down 0.5 buyins :D

iv never been so happy to finish a session down.

This was also my first 2 table HU session iv ever played, i was steaming hard, but got my focus back 45 minutes in.

done for tonight, tomorrow's another day, gonna do a nice short handed session.

ciao all.

Febs goin pretty bad for me atm... not playing very well
Been playing more HU and have been just gettin killed by donks... so frustrating but I think its pretty damn profitable so I will probably keep playin one sesh of HU and one of 6m per day... Other than that Im going to buy a house pretty soon and rent it out to 3/4 of my friends so that will be pretty sick. Anyways heres the nice looking stats

Some newbie\'s rant by nullmind, February 25

Yeah I know by now I can't always win with AA nor I expect to. But when you get no action for like 10 AA in a row in microstakes? Everyone folding to you to big blind? WTF?

UBB code: http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/83a2efdf26222f55270a56c51ab7dcfc.jpg

And when I actually do get some action, this happens...

WTF1+ Show Spoiler +

WTF2+ Show Spoiler +

WTF3+ Show Spoiler +

It always feels like when I flop a set, flop is a suited board.
When I have high pocket card(KK, QQ, JJ, TT) always a higher card flops.
When I have a nut flush draw, it always fails to deliver.

Damn I'm such a FISH!

problem solved by Spitfiree, February 25

Heh my bad run wasnt coz of bad play or smtng lal just as i thought Prima sucks ass thats pretty much the network with most suckouts ever to exist.Moved to ipoker running normally there are some pretty bad suckouts too and i think its normal to have like 2-3 bad beats every 2-3k Hands ( am i right? )but at least they dont happen THAT often as while i was in prima. Also asked guys that "grind" 20nl prima so im saying grind coz they mostly run even and get profit from rakeback they d normally grind the level pretty standart at a normal site but eh .. prima is prima... full of donks who luck out insane..

anyway i ll leave u with a song that pretty much ROXXXXXXXXX its prolly one of the best minimals i ve heard and i've heard a lot trust me:

DS over -> fun comes back by PplusAD, February 25

So after a nasty Downswing were i dropped 300€ ( 15 buy ins) on Nl20€ in just 2,5 K hands ... ( 35% Won at SD average >-<)
I decided to take a break of 1 week.

then i restarted 2 tabling
3 days of 2 tabling are over now and i regain the joy of poker

Last 3 sessions

+ 35.05 € stats 35/27/3 at Nl 10€
+ 39.62 € stats 29/21/3 at Nl 20€
+ 42.10 € stats 29/23/3 at Nl 20€

+ 173 $ ( 116,77€)

Well 2 tabling can be pretty nice since u are fully aware of all the action at the tables at any time and can play a lot looser
That can be a good alternation for everyone whos bored from 8 tabling 16/10 ^^

Heater continues since last blog post and has catapulted me into NL100.
Once on NL100 heater went into overdrive. Nice to run as I have seen other luckboxes run. But I know variance, and I know my long-term winrate is probably somewhere around 4ptbb/100.

NL50 run:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/95f2108920aa1812b4384151a8990596.jpg

Even though I am on a heater, I’m still completely focused on playing the best possible.
I’m still making some spewy plays but overall 4 tabling hour long sessions has really helped to keep my head in the game and to keep up the will to outplay everyone else at the table.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to work on
- I’ve been making some thin plays and having them turn out well, but vs ranges I think they must only have a more dubious and possible –ve EV. Example of this was my QQ vs JJ in a 3bet pot vs a tightplayer on a low board.
- I’m making some spewy calls vs shortstacks who shove over my open.
- I’ve been 4 bet bluffing a lot in btn vs blind was vs Taggy players, and I see other regs doing it too. I’ve yet to get much experience with this, so have to watch that I don’t start leaking here.
- Aggression stats, up to NL50 always had low turn and river aggression compared to ideal (i.e midian) stats. Going to keep aware of where people are folding and look for good spots to bluff on the turn and river, increase my bluffing frequency slightly. Also looking to make more correct folds on the later streets. I think I call too much vs weakbets even when its incorrect to call given pot odds.
- game dynamics have become a lot more important to me, and they influence my decisions a lot more. At one table I may be playing 14/12 while on another I will be playing 38/32. The factor I want to focus on is when to change gears and how to make adaptations to the other aggressive regulars. I think this is the most important part of improving at this level. I will look at getting some coaching on this.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also been having some troubles with real-life Banks, cashed out $450 via moneybookers international bank transfer. Money bookers are good and only charge $4, but my bank stole over $30. I’m looking around for a bank with less daylight robbery and considering other options. If you have any experiences in this area, dear reader, I’d love to hear them.

***shameless plug***
I must also mention that I was coached by gawdawaful earlier in the month and I highly recommend his services to any struggling microstakes player. He really understands this game deeply, far better than I do, and he is good at conveying his ideas too. Infact I would say he is the best possible coach for micro players even if he charged much more than the paltry $30/hr he does charge.
Check out his blog for more detials
*******************

Anyway, I’m officially moved up with my bankroll over 40 buy-ins. I’ll reassess my plan for poker over the next few days, till then going to play and improve~

gl all

I, Calling Station by PanoRaMa, February 25

Been playing some pretty good poker lately, which is good considering I really need to make big strides this week if I want to end February with a solid earning. Currently at 11.1k over 36k hands right now which is a bit unfortunate but beggars can't be choosers (don't know if this even applies in this context but whatever).

Here are some pretty good calls I've made recently.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/392496 - KQ hi on A hi board
Kinda standard cbet flop, realize I'm ahead of draws on turn cbet, then bluff catch riv hand.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/392497 - JJ on K hi board 3 streets oop
Flop I mix it up between cbetting and check calling. Turn he is repping a decent amount of hands that beat me, but by river he essentially has to have KQ or a set here, and I've shown immense weakness up til this point.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/392500 - KK on A hi board facing a river c/rai
A fun hand here, against an aggressive, good villain and among the few I actually respect at my stakes. Flop I'm thinking he reasons I'm only betting here with air and the very top of my range (and checking back made pairs and A high), so he makes a standard peel. Turn is a supposed scare card but I know he's smart enough to know I know it's a scare card, so I bet for value planning to go 3 streets. His river c/r is a bit scary at first but reasoning through the hand I don't think he ever has a 4 in his hand here (unless 44 i guess lol), a slowplayed 77 is possible but I think he might've made a move by then. I also don't think he's capable of doing this with just a bare ace either. In the end, it was a really thin, ballsy bluff by him and probably made to fold me off a queen or an ace if he thinks I'm that weak tight.

Here are some good calls I make that I actually get punished for:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/391788 - 3b pot TT oop on A hi 3 flush board
Villain is aggro and I have a pretty aggro image as well. I think I just lost a big pot to something stupid prior to this so he might've also had the idea that I was slightly tilted (which is wrong because I'm zen as fuck and never tilt). His raise/call range here is pretty wide, and he knows that I am probably betting this flop with my entire range (lol I probably am). Because of this, I think he's capable of calling with a pocket pair type hand or just air intending to float, so I snap it off on the turn and get owned. He had decent equity though, but he was probably shoving a non diamond turn as well =/

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/391782 - 3b pot QQ on K hi flop facing a shove
Villain is some crazy donk who claims to be a poker pro and is a table coach and berates everyone. He's been 3betting me a little bit lately, and usually has a tendency to bluff (later developed some sick bet sizing tells on him). Knowing this, I choose not to 4bet my queens and just let him donk it off. Not that hard of a call on the flop since I mean he's just retarded and overaggro, dumb result though.

Well that's it. Hopefully I'll put up some more "essays" later since that seems like the things people like the most (browse through previous entries if you're interested).
