A few goals and just some high thoughts. by BigRed0000, April 23

So i've just finished smoking what's left of our weed from 4/20 after grinding 7 hours of MTT's to lose crucial flips at FT's and finish up 200 dollars. I guess that beats a stick in the eye though. Tournaments can be such a bitch, b/c even when you run good and above expectation (pretty much any time you FT something), you are still going to be unsatisfied a vast majority of the time. Also I think I found out what I hate most about the rail in online tournaments, it's when they start trying to talk strategy and berate ppl's plays aasl;dk;fase it's so fucking annoying b/c no one wants to hear that shit. If you rail just stick to wishing your friends gl don't be that douchebag who brings up strat and says "Oh he should have played this that way blah blah" no one cares, trust me.

Anyways i'm fairly sure i'm going to be taking a long break from FR. It got way too fucking boring and poker sucks huge dick when every time you get it in w/ KK preflop you are legitimately afraid of them having AA. It's just so boring and nitty, I think my switch to HU and MTT's is going to be good. As much as I complain about tournaments, it is really fun to be at a final table, or go deep in something that has a huge prize pool. Way more fun that cascading 24 tbls and hoping you don't get oversetted more than X amt. of times.

I really feel like i'm going to do well in a larger buy-in/field tournament soon, maybe the FTOPS or one of the millions, who knows. I have been asking Jon (Echo) a lot of questions and I think over the last few days the mass grind and practice has helped my game tremendously. Sooo hopefully all this work and improvement actually shows with results (not complaining about the ones I have now, it would just be nice to be a 6 figga nigga). Ok this is way too long and I need to shower then sleep and grind again, if I have any kind of good score tomorrow on Stars I can legit. go for TLB win so if I do i'll keep everyone who cares updated. GL Everyone,

-Patrick.

[pics] taking the bad with the good by CrownRoyal, April 22

Hmm.

well, since my last update im down like 700 in cashgames playing nl100 heads up and being a stupid degen with no br management.

Down $100 from $16 sng because my internet went out... just as i had started the 15th one and when i got it back up i had 2-3 bb on every table and managed to scrape together only a 100 dollar loss.

everything is crashing down around me and i dont even wanna play anymore, so im just gonna play some light poker for a while.

In more exciting and cool news I'm back at my home and have been having a great time with family/friends. I've been doing a lot of cool stuff and fishing a lot which is sick relaxing and de-tilting.

Today after losing $25 playing random things in poker i decided to go fishing and work on my pale ass skin and go towards my summer tan. So I took my shirt off, I grabbed my phannypack-esque tackle box, I grabbed my fishing pole and I headed to my favorite local pond that I've fished at since i was 14 or so.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/4f51f23eb5ca208d0eb2a3215d0fb357.jpg

I got there and fish were popping around EVERYWHERE on top of the water but i couldnt figure out wtf they were, i could see what they were eating which was some type of small bug but besides that i was really lost. So i instantly tied on a top water lure called a buzzbait and got nothing. This convinced me it was something like a perch or something, but i was still curious so I tied on a spook which mimics a dying fish on top of the water. The perch went crazy on this thing and they kept snagging themselves on the hooks which was HILARIOUS but really annoying and I don't fish for perch anyway because they are stupid/gay/worthless/notbragworthy/ugly/easy/etcetcetcetc. I also wasnt catching anything later on with spinnerbaits or anything so i gave up and decided to head home.

So as im leaving im about 4 feet away from the gravel road that leads me out of the place and my truck starts to sink into the mud and fuck i knew my fate before i even stopped moving. I popped it into reverse and sure enough FUCK i'm stuck. I started slamming it into 1st gear and then into reverse wrapping the fuck out of my engine but no luck, i'm stuck. I call my buddy and he comes and we tie a chain to his hitch and the hooks on my bumper and I finally get out.

Hands from this evenings session. by RebuyFoolAA, April 22

So I played 1k hands this evening and I thought I was playing very well. I ended up even but I really feel a strong desire to play more and better poker at the moment. In effort to keep up with this I am going to start posting all of my hands I get stacked on whether they are coolers or not and evaluate my play. Feel free to comment but this is mainly so I can get my thoughts down for myself.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/430401
Alright so the pfr in this hand is new to me and by his raise size you can tell he is terribad. I 3x it with position with AA which is completely standard. He flats and the flop comes 367hh. He c/r me small which is scary, especially on this board, especially when a donk is doing it and they tend to c/c draws. Anyway, I get it in which I feel is also completely standard
and run into the top of his range. Obviously he can have two pair hands, sets, and I guess a straight here, but I also think we see one pair+straigh draw hands, top pair hands, and over pair hands enough to warrant getting it in. Pretty sure this is a standard cooler.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/430399
Alright so this was a real interesting hand from my sesh tonight. Villain in this hand is a competent regular who I don't like to tangle with all that much. We flop pretty much the straight up nuts so am very happy. At this point we get c/rd in a three way monotone flop by the competent player. This equals so much strength its ridiculous. Now we have two options, get it all in now or call and get it in on turn. My in game thinking was that by calling it looks like I have a moderate strength hand that is looking to see a turn and re-evaluate. The pot is also big enough to where if he checks the turn I can bet and get it in by the river anyhow. In hind sight I should have realized just how strong this c/r is and got it in then rather than on the turn just because I don't think he is ever folding and he almost always has outs or scare cards for him can come. I elected to call and get it in on turn which I think is wrong now but end up getting sucked out on anyhow .

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/430400
Another semi-interesting spot preflop. Pushbot has been pretty active at the tables tonight, however I have not seen him before. He seems average-good and is probably three betting a wide range. NutStylin is your average run of the mill nit. He probably has an opening range of 22+ AJ+. I decided against four betting here mainly because it would have been my first four bet at the table tonight and I thought it would look overly strong. I want to exploit Pushbots wide range in this spot and NutStylin doesn't really worry me all that much. Anyhow NutStylin calls and his range is like any pocket pair and AK maybe AQs. So the flop comes out relatively dry and I elect to try and c/rai. It goes check check check and we see a turn. The turn seems like a meh safe card but I wouldn't be surprised if it hit either of their ranges. I thought that betting out would be okay but would get folds a lot more than calls, although if I lead out river I might get a skeptical call more often than on turn. When I checked I had the intention of c/rai and so I went with that when NutStylin bet out. I thought his range was more narrow towards weaker hands after he checked the flop so I didn't give him much credit and went with the hand. Once he called I was expecting to see TT/AQ more often then any other hand so I was surprised to see QQ. I still don't think not four betting pf is a mistake and I feel like I played this one okay. I think leading flop or turn is also okay.

month keeps getting better by shaneomac, April 22

so my continuous losing streak continues. ive had few winning days this month when ive played, and all i seem to do is lose. not sure how these ppl are making the plays they make. like fucking 15/11/.65 wants to call my pf raises with Q5h and wqants to call me down with A hi then not bet the 3rd nutflush BvB? im sooooo frustrated and quitting before i tilt. the players are SO bad yet i keep running bad and im sure im playing bad too since i have no real way of judging it. im probly going ot post swome hands just wanted to blow off some steam. going ot go watch deadliest catch, that will take my mind off it a lil

1 Month In by Yaffie, April 22

It's a month today since I deposited $50 on stars. I've only played 3 of those 4 possible weeks having withdrawn all my cash for a week after a bad run.

Anyway, here's my graph:

Am I a ghost? by Kapol, April 22

I view all these NL100 6-max hands from PS that are posted here (not all of them obv), both in the 'Hands' and 'MSP' section, and I can't remember seeing me at the table in any of these hands, not to mention being the villain.

It's some paranormal stuff, I gotta tell you that.

fuck luck by PplusAD, April 22

thats all.

- 2 1/2 buys in 1,3 K hands.

I got cards today as if i was running insane good.

flopped about 12-15 sets in this 1,3 K hands !!!! ( normally i flop 3-4 in that time)
i had 2 flushes
2 straights.
i had 4 times top 2 pair
i also had 4 of a kind once in the session

ship ?
no cause nothing of this shit held vs villian draws.

and all this in 1,3 K hands .
cardwise this was probably the best session i had in a long time.
luckwise it was one of the worst.

lost 3 times set < set
1 time straight < straight
1 time flush < flush
1 time set of KK < rivered flush

all 70-30 or 80-20 preflop all ins vs shortstacks...

rest of the godly shit i got didnt get paid ...
so all in all i feel like i want to puke 3 hours straight without break...

PLz no noob comments like ... u must do something wrong or shit ...
I really played very good this session.

I added 4 betting regulars wo have stats like 18/14 preflop to my arsenal and it worked out well.
i also startet to isolate more vs 35/5/1 66% fold to flop bet guys and it also worked out very well.
I dont know excactly but my non showdown winnings were really nicely in the green

100% of my preflop 4 bets vs regulars worked
every preflop all in vs shorties i was ahead
I didnt tilt the whole session
and i played in position isolating the fish the vast majority of the time.
I played tight and agressive and besides the setups and beats i made a good amount of money.

but when u run so bad at showdown there is nothing u can do.
I didnt even went to showdown for over half a stack if i didnt have at least 2pair or a set...
nevertheless i was beat everytime...

the last 2,2 K hands before this session i didnt get any stuff at all
nevertheless i was 4Bb/100 in the green

today i got hands all teh time left and right ...
and i am down like -8BB/100

TY Italy by SakiSaki, April 22

Sickest thing ever, I played soccer today. Outside. With only a t-shirt and shorts! OMFG SHIP THE SPRING YO! It was awesomesauce but it made me really exausted so I debated not playing poker when I got home. Being a degenerate I ate some food, drank some water and hit the tables.

I busted a couple of semishorties sitting down pretty fast and soon enough a familiar face sits down. Its a guy from Italy that I played yesteday. He actually ended up a bit on me yesteday which always hurts because hes not really good. He plays very tight for HU, almost running like i do at 6-max. Around 37/28/2,5. He calls way to many 3-bets and has some blowup tendencies. All in all I think he sucks quite alot so I was happy when he sat down on two tables to play me.

Now the next 1k hands I introduced him to a little thing I like to call pure and complete pain. I ran well but I think I picked really good spots to bluff and snap of bluffs. I just repeatedly stacked him and he instarealoaded and kept playing. I was up a tonton on him, he managed to make some of it back though but I ended up having my biggest day in a long long time.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/0423c568de73ee8dd211248126fa803f.jpg

Lets learn a lesson from this shall we?

In HU, its very very extremely important to set a stop loss. Ahwell, Im happy he didnt. SHIPSHIP!

UFC 83 thoughts by KeanuReaver, April 22

Myself and Fox had a fairly lengthy discussion a while back about how a fighter cannot expect to be world class in all facets of mma so he must pick and choose from various martial arts to create a working fighting style. One thing I love about mma is that because of this, mma itself is a true artform that rewards creativity. An offshoot of this is gameplanning and something I've noticed over the past few years in mma that, as the skill gap between fighters has shortened and any fighter worth a damn is an "mmaist" and not just a one trick pony, gameplans are playing a huge role and many fighters shortcomings can be traced to this. So my thoughts on the event are going to be based on this.

-It was tough going for hironaka in the beginning of the fight as he couldn't get goulet down but then he floors goulet with a well placed left and almost finishes the fight before the end of the round. He probably stole round 1 on the judges score cards and more importantly, he's forced goulet to respect his standup so it should be ezmode setting up his takedowns for the 2nd and 3rd rounds and cruising to either a sub win or an ez decision...right? wrong. whether it be bad gameplanning or just getting caught up in the moment, hironaka takes what should have been a huge advantage and turns it into a disadvantage and tries to brawl with goulet.

-I stated in my earlier blog post that herman simply would not win a ground battle with maia but he should be able to keep the fight standing if he can avoid getting sucked into a ground battle when maia pulls guard. Unfortunately for him, that's exactly what happened. He held out longer than I thought he would (due mostly to a couple ugly mistakes from maia) but the gap between the two on the ground is like night and day. For maia, this fight shows he still needs to work on adapting his bjj to mma as he wasn't controlling posture very well (not as big a deal in grappling as it is in mma) and he lost mount in the first round way too easy but he's improving. For herman, I was really shocked he got sucked into a ground fight this easy, being from Team Quest I'd think he'd know that he needs to avoid the ground at all costs but when you've trained so long to be a top position ground fighter it's not something you can easily avoid.

-Part of me doesn't even want to comment on Starnes vs Quarry but it was probably the 2nd biggest thing to happen on the night so I will. Quarry looked very good and much more explosive than I've seen him in the past, he still gets hit way too much in the standup but at least this time it looked as if he would be landing a lot more with good combos. For kalib...well, he said he broke his foot early on in the first round and nate's leg kicks tore up his thigh, he figured he wasn't going to be winning the fight with the injuries so he just didn't want to get hurt worse. Now...back when I took bjj I would break toes all the time and actually once did break a bone in my foot and it hurts really fucking bad but it's not as debilitating as you might think and even still, it's a pretty lousy excuse especially considering just how agile he was in running away from quarry. Fact is Fox is right, he has the mental toughness and fortitude of a 4 year old girl and I'm happy he's out of the UFC. A good friend of mine also pointed out on another forum that this could very well have been a dive and given the evidence from the fight as well as the fact that he hates dana, hates his ufc contract, makes 10k a fight, and intended to leave the UFC after this fight anyway...it seems pretty likely. I pointed out in my previous blog post I was shocked at how much of a dog kalib was, what better to skew the lines than a few huge bets on nate? It's all speculation of course but it's definitely worth an investigation.

-Franklin didn't look great vs lutter but he didn't look bad either. This isn't a fight he loses much at all but after giving up his back in the clinch (wtf) he was in a lot of trouble but his escape from the armbar was great (that escape is why you need to trap the other arm as well for a perfect armbar) and it would seem that lutters conditioning problems aren't just about the weight he has to cut. Franklin is now stuck in the same spot that hughes and liddell...all three are going to be able to beat most contenders but they just can't beat the champ. As for lutter, if he improves his conditioning I think he could be a force at 185 as his takedowns are a lot better than I thought they were.

-GSP's gameplan was brilliant. He basically decided to turn into sean sherk for the fight and serra clearly wasn't prepared for it. His top position was very patient and position oriented...he never looked to cause damage until he had the position secured and he would never allow himself to remain in serra's guard. he always kept his upper body on top of serra and really wore him out by never giving serra room to relax or catch his breath. I hope serra moves down to 155 instead of chasing a rubber match as his power and skill would give a lot of fighters a ton of problems...serra is pretty much a bigger, stronger, more skilled hermes franca and franca is a great fighter in his own right.

All in all, the event wasn't that great but it was fun enough. GSP is a monster, quarry is looking great, and Maia is brilliant on the ground. Most importantly, it's time to shift focus to bj vs sherk :D!

Out-donking the donk by thestoryteller, April 22

I stare glumly at my hole cards: AA. Over the last 15,000 hands, my AA has lost money. I go all in PF vs some donk with 35s. By the river, his 35s has transformed into 3 5s. I go all in PF vs some donk. 30 seconds later, the place looks like a hedonistic Bangkok brothel - two queens lying face up on the table and another pair of queens in a donkey's hole.

Out of a sense of duty I raise. Some donk calls. The flop is 2c7c3h. I bet. Donk min raises. I shove. Donk calls. The extreme stress of the situation causes my hyperactive imagination to take over.

I am no longer in my study. Instead, I am sitting across from the donk in a casino with an audience of a hundred people.

The turn is the king of clubs.

The river is the ten of clubs.

The goddamned donk turns over 2s3s! The audience gasps and I catch the words "donk" and "moron" being bandied around.

"The donk has 2 pair, 2s and 3s," announces the dealer.

"Wait!" I cry, "I have a pair of aces!"

"Donk!" says the donk. "My 2 pair beats your pair of aces all day everyday."

"Yes. Unless, of course, one of those aces happens to be..." I pause for dramatic effect. "The ace of clubs!"

The audience gasps and bursts into applause. The men drink to my health. The women throw their underwear at me. Overwhelmed by my awesomeness, a tall, blonde Russian chick slides under the table and gives me a blowjob.

"Donk!" screams the donk, furiously. "I had two pair! You had a runner runner flush draw! If I had turned my hand face up, you would never have shoved. You violated the Fundamental Theorem of Poker on the flop!"

"Yes, but I violated your ass on the river."

The moment passes. I am back in my study, watching the chips slide to me on my monitor. The only witnesses to my triumph are my dog and my cat.

"Meow?" says the cat.

"Yes, my furry friends. Let the donks beware, for MY LUCK HAS RETURNED!!!!"

Now running at 12PTBB/100 over the last 1,200 hands. Hopefully it'll get even better.

Bank Rollin’ by Silver)Z(, April 22

Been pretty lazy with poker lately, mostly playing too much SC and sleeping in too long. Think I’m not as ‘hungry’ as before I cashed out $650 in platinum star bonus. Now I can afford all the instant and takeaway food I want...
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/fd05aa44595277e57f0b50891611417b.jpg
sure beats plain bread every meal.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/482d872bdd138cfc0fad7d6301332b37.jpg

Been trying out Full ring, and it has been going pretty well ( apart from a few sick beats at NL100), I’m starting to realize that its all just poker. Played around with mass multitabling but found it didn’t really work for me, I need to keep tabs on the action at each table. 6 to 8 tables of full ring works nicely I’ve found, just enough to keep busy between making decisions and observing big pots I’m not in.

Heads up is pretty interesting, been doing a lot of thinking about how to best maintain an edge vs different opponents, Think some coaching could be good to help me ‘get it’ faster.

Anyway, feeling good about my ability to play any game type atm.

I’m looking to start working towards going semi-pro ^^

I currently work 4 evenings per week at the local supermarket (which is actually not too bad thanks to my Ipod) but I’d really like to cut it back to 2 nights per week.

Before I do that I want to have enough money in my bank account to live off for half a year.
That would be about US$3000
Current BR ~$7000 need to hit 8000 to move up to NL200
Looking to hit the 10k then celebrate with a cashout

So goal is: I’m going to start putting in at least 4 hours per day wherever is fishiest: HU to 6max to FR, NL50 to NL200. Just going to be focused on making money until I hit the 10k after that I will concentrate on moving up and improving as fast as I can again.

Right, This motivates! Going to earn some time off by playing poker :D

movin on up by Ftrunkz, April 22

woo, nl25 here i come =). after my mega downswing about 3 weeks ago i banned myself from stars for a week. I've now made up almost all my losses in 9 days and I'm back at NL25 now. it feels good to have some consistency about my game, and hopefully i ride the heater for a while at NL25 too... =)

http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/9444/nl10april12thto22ndov4.jpg

and since there's so many hilariously awesome songs from the 80's and 90's with the words "move on up" I'm going to finish every move up post with one of them, hopefully i run out before my poker career is over =)

Running good vs playing well. by PandaSaurus, April 22

Don't know if this is retarded, but I'd like to here some opinions.

How do you generally distinguish between the two? I've been playing NL50 for about 2 months, and I don't really play much poker, but have been running at about 5bb/100 hands. I feel like I've been playing well, without being spectacular. I've had the odd small downswing, but never more than about 5 buyins. I've also been running fairly well April making $700 at 10bb/100 over 7k hands. Obviously this is not sustainable, but Ive been contemplating a move to NL100, but I'm not sure if my game is up to it over the long run.

I guess I'd just like some insight as to how you know if you're crushing the game or not. From my perspective, I'm a fairly solid ABC style player, but there are definitely some areas I can improve on. I'm thinking I might give NL100 a go and see what happens.

Yeah I like to break my commitments by louhi, April 22

I've played 360 hands, and after a long talk with my friend I've subscribed to cardrunners.com in order to better learn the great game of poker. I'm thinking about watching videos and playing poker for only 1-3000 hands per day. Here's a picture of my desktop and no, I didn't buy it just to play poker I bought it for 3d modelling, coding and poker.

Oh the Tilt by k2o4, April 22

I swear bad hands come in waves of abuse and pain. Started my session out smoothly tonight, cruised up to a 1.5 buyin win quickly, then like 4 tough spots hit within 10 hands and I messed up 3 of them. Hello 1.5 buyin loss. But I stayed calm and built back up to a 2 buyin win - and then it happened again. Just gross spots where I had to fold hands that I really hated to. Set vs 60/0/0.7 when the board made a 4 flush on the river and he shoved while we were 200BB deep. KQ on a K55AJ boa that he had check called on the flop/turn, and then he shoves into me on the river - wtf!!! That was the same guy btw, and those 2 hands happened back to back. Then 2 hands later I get KK, 3bet and get a 3way pot (this table was crazy). Flop comes all rag diamonds and I don't have a diamond in my hand - I Cbet and get raised, and I jam it in. At this point what was a 200BB stack has whittled down to 130BB cause of the 2 folds I had to make. I figure I'm getting it in vs the bare Ace of diamonds or some sorta PP 88-QQ often enough to be happy. Of course it turns out to be AQ of diamonds. And that's how I went from a 200BB stack to 0 in like 4 hands.

Rebuilt back to 200BB quickly with some good play and then spewily got it in for 100BB pre w/ TT vs a guy I really shouldn't have gotten it in vs. So now I'm here to complain about it all in my blog.

There were several other horribly shitty spots where I needed to fold strong hands but didn't. I was doing OK vs that super fish and made those 2 big folds, but I think it put me on mega tilt cause I'd been sitting there for a long time waiting to make hands against this station and he check/calls the flop through turn vs me in 2 big hands and then shoves the river when he has never made an aggressive move the entire time I've been at the table. OH THE PAIN. THE SUFFERING.

THE HORROR... THE HORROR

(yeah I just rewatched apocalypse now so...)

Despite all that I lost less than a buyin for the night, but I'm really pissed at myself cause if I'd left when I started getting hungry and slightly tired, I'd be a 2 buyin win with a total of 5 on the day. But nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

I'm gonna go find something hard to smash my head against and maybe this pain will go away.
