| | a degen\'s story tl;dr by requiem, May 11
i'm a degen.
the short of it: i ran up 800 to 35K and lost it all on a combination of HSNL + blackjack. the long version continues below:
in late december i life tilted my $1000 stake after finishing finals at 400NL HU; coulda walked away with more than $2K but the other guy's bankroll killed me in the end, due to the high variance nature of HU. so the clear play here was to get a job and grind my staker's money back the good ole' fashioned way right?
wrong. i immediately applied for a credit card and loaded $800 onto the cake network, playing 50NL. it was all dandy at first but the degen within me started taking 1 buyin shots at 100nl, then it became 200nl, then it became 400, then 600nl, then before i knew it, I was getting c/r'd huge with AA on Q-hi rag board button vs blinds. I called and he continued on blank turn, I said fuck it and shipped it in vs his obvious set. but he had Q8o and i took down a 3.8k pot.
after that day i decided to 'play within my means (lol)' and go to 400nl. there was this sick maniac raising 30bb with ATC and going AIPF almost every hand. I lost a few AK vs his 34s and was about to commit suicide because I was down to like 400. i gave it one more try and got it allin vs him for almost a 2K pot, AA vs 88. the flop came 8xx and i was ready to go downstairs to the kitchen and grab the largest knife i could but the turn was a godly Ace.
from then on i built up a sizeable roll, but i was stupidly blowing my bankroll on blackjack, cashouts, and 5KNL HU. i blew a few K here and there on Stars and FTP and before I knew it, I was in debt. true degen stylez.
i loaded 500 a few days ago, on credit no doubt, and am really trying hard to grind with PROPER BANKROLL MANAGEMENT. because it doesn't matter how good at poker i think i am and how often i get it in good, variance will eventually kill me if i keep playing with fuckin 3 buyins or my entire BR on one table.
so i've grinded 25nL for about 3-4 days now, and believe me that's a huge accomplishment for me because I usually busto or run up a large roll within one day. I took down 2nd in a rakeback freeroll today for a nice score of $1325 (although 1st was $2150 and I went out on this: http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/442749) and i'm hoping to steadily build my BR now at 50nl and beyond!

| | since i started playing again by shaneomac, May 11
the most important thing ive realized in poker recently is that everything is a journey in this game, and i am not going to wake up one day and just begin playing awesomely. i still lose some money in stupid spots against shortstacks here n there which definitely hinders my winrate, isnt tilt, its just me acting too fast.
since i started playing again, i havent had much success @ 6m but have done decently @ FR. i feel like since i started playing FR again i am playing so much better and progressing and beginning to understand and apply a lot of stuff i previously didnt do. im going to make a conscious effort to watch more cardrunners videos and apply concepts to my play. it would be sweet to get the sweatsession from midian but im not counting on it as a lot of ppl applied so to speak. i cannot wait to get my computer home and begin playing a ton.

well maybe lee turns off the doomswitch when you threaten to / wrists or something. less suckouts overpairs holding up against draws most times. and bonuses not being more helpful than before. ive got 100 more worth in bonuses and 4k b4 supernova . playing real solid as of late and running a little better than before. hope this keeps up a little longer this time coz i think ive paid a ton of variance

anyone else in queensland or studying at st lucia?
just found out that lachlan studies there too
maybe a group of us could hit the casino one day, theres NL100 there now.
havent posted in forever. been playing at the nl pound tables at crypto and omfg there are so many fish. i would say NL10 is harder at stars than NL25 is at crypto
and this was the god damn gayest hand of the night. this guy cold called two allins on a draw + definetly domniated pair and sucked out and ended up 5 buy ins up
it sucks when u get it in best in a USD $120 pot and lose to a bunch of fucking donkeys

Very good news to a Poker player =)
Beofore end of the year its gonna be commercialized. I cant wait
About Poker, Since yesterday I started to play only NL400 tables (no more NL200)
Altough I think Im a little winner there (4BB/100), NL400 its where I feel what's poker about. The games are so challenging compared to NL200 that Im starting to love this stake. The variance is higher and there aren't so many fishes but the games gives me motivation to play and wondering why there are some sucessful players that already beaten the mid stakes and are competitive high stakes players.
Today I played a long session compared to my standards (2K hands), after the first 1.4K hands I lost 3bi in flips and bad beats and I didnt get action with my decent/good hands. To my surprise I didnt get angry for ruining my month this way and after dinner I grinded 600 hands more. I ran so bad that I started losing 2bi more, so I started to lose the value of my money and played more agressive and playing big pots and such and in no time I had 1.8K in a table and 1.2K in other one. I stopped there and felt sooooo good. I ended -$45. So that's fine

Today, or tomorrow i will take shots @ NL50. If i lose 2 buyins, i move down, rebuild /6max NL25 is so EZ, really/, and take a next shot. I always used an agressive bankroll management /agressive, not Neilly style / to move up. Hopefully, i'll run good!
My personal life things: any of you guys will be in Greece in late August? Ill be there for a week /in Sartri/, we could catch a beer.
And more importantly: i'll be in Germany in 31 dec. In Dusseldorf. On the Sensation White party in LTU Arena! Anyone coming? Soon you can book tickets, it's worth it. Not just cheaper, but the tickets will be sold out. It will be Europe's biggest party at the time! Obv i'm a Sensation tour fan, so i might be a little bit one-sided If u dont know what this is: http://www.sensation-white.com
University is going good, my final exams are coming fast... After that, 1 year i'll be graduating hopefully. God, i hate this shit, it's so boring...
Anyways, see you at the tables /hoplefully @ NL50 /, gl all!

| | That moment... by thestoryteller, May 10
I have these moments when I am just 99.99999% sure that I shouldn't call, and I call anyway. Doesn't happen as much anymore, but it happened once yesterday and that was enough to turn a breakeven session into a session with a 60bb loss.
It was my last hand, the board had 5 hearts including the ace and I held the queen. The villain bet the flop, check/called the turn and check/shoved the river for something like twice the pot.
I requested time, went to pee, answered the doorbell and returned upstairs to click on "call". Argh...
I wonder if Hitler felt that way in the summer of 1941? He was probably sitting in Berlin with all his commanders going, "don't do it mein fuhrer! Don't do it!" There was probably even a little voice in his head saying the same thing. And Hitler probably responded, "I don't care! I am 9 countries up! Dat Stalin is a donkey! Ve vill infade Russia, and de man who tinks about bringing varm undervear vill be shot!"
Anyway I shut down the computer after that and went to teach one of my students. He paid me for the month yesterday so that took some of the edge off (I mean, I was only 6 dollars down at poker, but I am a sensitive new age guy and such things affect me... very... sniffle...).
Poker is going to be pretty intensive this month as the mid-year examinations are over and a lot of my tuition students are cancelling lessons for half the month. That means no extra income but plenty of time to work on poker.
So I woke up this morning and sat down for a three hour session, reminding myself that I had to play properly. It was all going okay until I hit an AA vs KK situation for 100bb. It was especially galling because I was the one with the AA this time and though we got it all in on the flop, he rivered a king. Thankfully, I bounced back thanks mainly to this table:
Hand one: doesn't involve me, but never trust a donk who can't spell the word "nothing".
+ Show Spoiler +
Hand two: it was not clear who SHARKPGH34 was talking to. On hindsight, probably me. Looks like itlgirl misunderstood and upped the donkey disrespecter factor!
+ Show Spoiler +
Hand three: um... don't call a PF raise at full ring with JQo? No, wait, call a PF raise with JQo, but for goodness sake top up your stack first, you miser.

+900 today playing 2/5 and 1/2 and .5/1 HU (dropped 3 buyins to huge coolers, doh), I ran like teh sungod incarnate @ 1/2 (running like god at 1/2 is stnd for me :D as opposed to HU).
Day was sweating me during the HU which totally rocked since I realized huge patience leaks for me, alas, even good play can't prevent total coolers like trips vs boat
Standard run like god 1/2 hands (+926$ in 403 hands):
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/442152
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/442135
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/442113 WTF?!!? I'm a luckbox tho, for sure.
Standard 2/5 hands (+285$ in 483 hands):
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/442090
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/442144 - this hand was so weird, so so weird - the guy 3bets AQ, then checks a Q hi flop and now he pots and snapcalls a shove with ace high lol :D Backwards much?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/442112
No HU hands cause my PT is weird and won't actually open the hands.. but, -301$ in 177 hands.
Ahhhh it feels great to be back in the green, and I've logged a very nice amount of hands this month (playing between 1 and 6 tables, mostly 3-4 I guess). Not the kind of huge amounts I played in december but still, 1k a day or thereabout is an amount I'd love to keep up.
Also tried to play some PLO (microstakes obv, nl25) earlier today which didn't go too well (I'm a fish(, if anyone has any recommendations for good PLO primer vods or reading feel free to link me.

im just tired as of late. just playing for supernova at the moment still nutpeddling and allowing some lp players fuck around with me a bit in position hehe. ive got like exactly 4928 vpp to go before i do reach supernova so its all good for now. what really tilted me yesterday aside from the suckouts and ton of coolers was this goddamm vista starter os i have installed in my desktop. it def has a lot of bugs and call of duty 4 had to be reinstalled so my 5star status was obv erased as well. at the moment i still play 100nl at pokerstars, and my BR is about 5k now, got a couple of bonuses coming to the amount of 150usd and im quite happy about that. i plan to absolutely play nonstop when i reach supernova, like 6 to 8k hands a day if possible. i guess ill just have to take the good and the bad of playing at a site which does have a lot of good players and regs. goodluck to yall and peace.

| | Explanation by k2o4, May 10
Sorry about that post last night guys - I was drunk and sitting at rock bottom. I figured no one would reply at all so I was really surprised to see so many people posting. I laughed at Kapols post (<3) and it was nice to see people sticking up for me (even if I do post too many hands, ahha!)
Anyway, last few days of poker have sucked balls and since I'd been cashing out I only had a 30 BI BR for NL100. Then I just couldn't win anything and started tilting by playing longer sessions than I should and too many tables. I mainly lost due to slight setups, things like AA as an overpair vs a set. If I wasn't tilted they'd be pretty easy folds, but I just wanted the win so badly that I couldn't fold any TPTK or better. By yesterday morning I was down to a 21 BI BR and feeling shitty about it.
I dropped down to NL50 and won about 3 BI's and decided to go back up and keep recovering, but back @ NL100 I only managed to tilt/spew and lose another 4 BI's, officially locking myself back into NL50. That tilted me really badly cause I'd been so happy to be "solidly" into NL100, and now I' thrown it all away.
So I quit playing poker for the day and tried to put on my happy face and have a good night out with the GF. I didn't tell her how bad I felt, trying to keep it hidden. That was a bad idea cause I started overreacting to small things and pissed her off, but since I was already so pissed off at myself I didn't do anything to calm her down, which basically escalated us into an all out war.
When I made that post last night I was in the worst point of the fight, basically feeling like shit cause I'd fucked up at poker and now I'd fucked up at my relationship and life. I got away from her for a second and pulled up a browser and as I heard her coming into the room I just quickly typed up that last blog post cause that was how I felt in the moment.
So that's what happened. Probably not close to as exciting as some people might have guessed, lol. I really appreciate all the nice comments made. They're helping me start this new day with a much better outlook and perspective. I seriously was sitting at rock bottom last night, which is kind of a good place to go, since after that there's nowhere to go but up.
I know it's cheesy to quote movies, but when shit like this happens I try to think of things like the line from Batman Begins.... "Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves back up." And also from the new Rocky, though I don't have it memorized it's something like "Life isn't about how hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can be hit and keep going" or something like that. So I fell hard, took a serious beating in all senses of the word (the fight really was a war), and now it's time to get back up and keep going.
Thanks for the support,
-Brett
