| | That was june by spets1, July 04
Got back from Perisher today.
Cashed out 500 bucks from ipoker to generate some money for my skiitrip, which left me pretty broke.
The skiitrip sucked cos we went and there wasnt enough snow, so only few lifts were open and we couldnt do mad trips between mountains like we did last time.

Also euro 2008 is over which was siiick. Russia played fucking awesome except for first game and last game, both against spain who ended up winning. We did however eliminate the tournament favourites Netherlands which was ubercool. Gus Hiddick did some amazing stuff. Watch out worldcup!!!!

| | July Yaye! by SakiSaki, July 04
My running good seems to continue through July. I dont feel like Im running supergood but apparently I have to because I dont think my winrate is really sustainable.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/502085056e152607ed8b86aeb15b9318.jpg
Ive also noticed that the last month or so I have been playing very loose even for HU. I think this might be because Ive been playing against alot of nits and ppl who just doesnt play back at me enough. I think maybe I should tighten up a bit oop but Im really clueless as if to this would be a leak. I find it really hard to get a realistic idea of wether something is a leak or not when you are running good.
Anyways, here are my positional stats for June+July, I would appriciate any ideas on what kind of vpip bb/sb ratio you guys think is optimal and I would love to hear from some other HU players on how tight/loose/agressive you are playing.

In other news, Im thinking of buying a watch. If you asked me a year ago if I could ever spend 5k+ on watch id laugh in your face and call you a retard. Im still a bit torn about the whole thing and Im pretty sure my family and friends will shun me if I buy a very expensive watch. That being said, Im quite facinated with swiss watches because of their history, quality etc and if a buy a watch its basicly to have it for the rest of my life.
Anyways, the watch im thinking of has been stuck in my mind ever since capaneo bought one and posted it in his blog. A Zenith Chronomaster. I can get it for about 5,4k or something which I think is an acceptable price to pay for a kickass swiss watch.

Havent really decided wether I really want to spend that much money on a watch when I could just buy a fake one and save the lives of like 100 children in africa instead.
Oh fuck, forgot the Norway pics. I suck sry

| | ITM finish in the $2,500 tourney by Joe, July 03
So today I accomplished one thing for the first time - I finished in the money in a big live tournament - the Venetian's $2,500 deepstacked NLHE event with a prize pool of about $661k.
Starting day 2 as one of the shortest stacks with 38 left I managed to sneak into the top 27 who made the money. I ended up 25th for a prize thats only slightly bigger than the buyin - $3,325. That means I made a nice profit of $815 after about 17 hours of play. Nice $48 / hour winrate, yay!
But I actually did have a shot at getting further in the tourney. When the bubble was over I had a chipstack of about 140k and the average was like 220k, not that bad. Unfortunately I lost a big part of it when I flopped AJ8 with TT in the pocket and clearly my opponent hit the flop better (of bluffed me). Then I still had like 85k and was in the BB. SB was even shorter then me with about 78k and when it got folded to him, he decided to push. I look at my A6o and figure I am ahead, so I instacall, he flips over 47o. I wish him 'Good luck' and of course my wish is fullfilled when the board comes 48859. My last hand I lose 22 vs QTs and am out.
I am of course a bit dissapointed because I was only about 2 maybe 3 flips away fom the final table and the big money, but still quite satisfied, because I managed to make the money in a big live tournament with definately not an easy field.
As for other people in the tourney, I was quite surprised that almost noone from the familar faces made it to day 2, the only one I recognized was FrinkX (think it was him), but he busted unfortunately about 2 or 3 places before the bubble.
I hope that this finish was a good sign for the upcoming main event My day 1 is on Saturday and I am already quite looking forward to it...

| | Biggest pot by CamilaPunt, July 03
So today I won my biggest pot ever in poka, I think... Was fun.
The situation was the following:
I had joined the wait list for my normal 5/10, 3/6 tables and saw a single 25/50 table going. Decided to watch the table while waiting for my tables to open. As I watched I realized one guy was tilting bad and another guy was a regular fish at my normal stakes (like uber fish). So, I was thinking this is definitely +EV to play.
Now I am in no means rolled for 25/50 as I believe in having 100bi rule at 5/10 and up, but I started the first 2 days of the month well, up about 10k and decided to play with that much variance on this table. As I figure that if statistically things go well this should be highly profitable.
In any case, about 10 minutes in this hand pops up vs tilter:

As I saw his hand pop up I was like "yes", and at the same time "fuk" cause that is the most standard looking hand to cause some beats. Anyways it held, so fun fun.
Besides that, the weight loss challenge I set is not gonna happen. I only ended up getting about 2k of action and will not try to kill myself for 2k. I am actually quite happy because losing that much weight in a month is basically impossible. I am still working out super hard now, going to the gym twice a day. In the morning I do a 1 hour spinning class and night some weight lifting + running followed by a fairly rigid diet. I'm starting to feel really good, it's just an awesome feeling to start getting in shape + losing weight.
Tonight I am going to Rio de Janeiro to spend the weekend with my gf, desperately looking forward to it as I have not seen her in quite a bit. And thats that.
Peace ya'll.

| | Introductions + Summer Goals by DrawingThin, July 03
Hi, I'm Mike and I live in Toronto. I'm soon to be 24 and just finished Uni so I have plenty of spare time for poker.
I've been a long time LP lurker but finally decided to make an account to start posting hands and keep track of my own progress in my blog.
Background
Started online poker last summer during my vacation time between 3rd and 4th year of uni. Having read DF's theory of poker and countless articles, I learned the very basics of poker like preflop hand range, position, odds, implied odds etc... I was ready to deposit and start crushing the microstake games.
I deposited 350 onto PS and started on NL25 FR (not the greatest bankroll management but FR was suppose to be low variance). First 3 weeks I ran like absolute shit, over 25-30k i was only down 2 BI but I really couldnt win any big hands.
At the time I never even considered that I was running bad... found plenty of mistakes (improper value betting, hands that I should have folded) but on the whole I was playing ok and should have been a marginal winner. I was discouraged and other things came up so I just gave up on poker.
Fast foward to Jan 2008, my winter vacation. Having nothing to do and remembering that I still had money on PS, decided to take one last shot. I set myself a goal of 15BI @ NL10 in the 1.5week time and if i didnt make it.. poker and I were never meant to be and I would just quit forever.
I was initially down 4 BI in the first 1k hands but I stuck with it and by the end of the 1.5weeks, I was up 13BI and had a bankroll of 480. I didnt reach my goal but it felt great to be able to win regardless of the stake.
I've been slowly grinding poker since and reached $1200 and moved to NL50 by early April but stopped completely for a month because of exams and final year design project.
After school ended, I decided to move $600 over to FTP for its juicy deposit bonus. Worst decision of my life... FTP is fucking rigged. Ive never seen so many runner runner suckouts in my life.
I turned the $600 to 1.8k but I was only a 0.7ptbb winner over 100k hands on this rigged site.
I've lost all my confidence thanks to FTP. Am I the 4ptbb PS player or the 0.7ptbb FTP player. I just dont know atm...
Now I'm back to PS playing NL25 FR again grinding and trying to regain my confidence.

Summer Goals
1. Be a consistent NL100 winner.
2. Gradually switch to 6 Max because I feel I autopilot FR too often and I think 6Max would really improve my game. Plus I'm sick of dealing with these 10/4/2 nitring set miners.

| | Rough day by Ezekiell, July 03
God, i hate these days. First, i couldn't sleep well, only slept about 5 hours. My usual is 7-8 hours, so this day wasn't started good. Ok, nevermind, let's start my session. Things went quite well, not great, but ok. Then suddenly all the donks started to make hands against me, my cbets were raised by regs and nits, and i found myself in a -2.5 bi losing streak. What the...
Ok, no problem, let's stop a little bit, nad i will win it back. After 2 hours of break, i started playing again. Fuck that, i was breaking even /which mens still -2 bi/. Not a big deal, but i told myself: i will not stop until i get a winning day from this crap.
I managed to get even, but this was exhausting...

Besides poker, i'm enjoying the summer. I finally bought an air conditioner, fuck, that's a great stuff! I finished my exams last week, so this summer will be all about poker, beer on the beach, and having fun /with my gf /. I can't wait my vacation in Greece. I'll be going in August, with my gf, the best friend of mine and his gf. 10 days in Greece, doing nothin but sightseeing, partying and swimming in the sea!
I wish the best of you guys /and girls/, gl all!

| | Day 3 - Take it down! by Oxy, July 03
Hey all,
I'm re-writing this post for the second time, so it'll be slightly shorter.
First, I'm happy to say that I finally took a tournament down - a $12 180-man turbo for $594. It's nothing big, but it's a nice start. The turbos are a pretty big luckfest, but I think there's value in playing them since the field is really horrible. I think I'm going to keep playing a few of them for a while.
As always, people know that I am running horribly bad. As some may have seen in my previous blog post, my didn't even hold up on an board...
I'm going to skip right ahead to taking a look at a hand I played.

There are a few things of mild interest to note.
The first and most obvious thing is that villain is an utter donk. I really have to drill into my head that these players are pretty shitty, and I have to adjust accordingly. This means looser calling ranges for all-ins, but also paying more attention to limpers and seeing whether they l/c or l/f to pushes or raises most of the time. I think 4-5 tabling MTTs is pretty optimal and allows you to observe pretty much every hand.
The second and more interesting fact is how I got villain to call my river bet. Notice that my 2k bet leaves me with 400 behind. I find that donks play their bluffs similarly, because they want to have at least a little something to play with if they get caught. I hadn't played a hand in a while, so I figured villain would view me as a typical donk (even being one himself) and the situation might look fishy enough to induce a call.
More importantly, and I think what caused the call, is my little chat comment. This is something I implemented with success at 1/2 FR, either while bluffing or valuebetting thin. The idea is that I call out a hand that I beat by far if I'm valuebetting. This should cause villain to believe that I think he has a very weak hand, and thus call me with his slightly better holding. If I'm bluffing, I'll call out the nuts or 2nd nuts, making villain think those are the only two hands I'm afraid of. The concept works fairly well, because most people don't have time to think about a little mind game like that, and I think it's an instinctive reaction.
Could be a bunch of psychobabble too...
Hope to play the 20k GTD tonight at 7, and a few other tourneys to boot.
Cheers all!

| | Craziest session I ever had. by lazymej, July 03
So I just finished up a monster 3.5k hand session. Things were going steady until one guy joined a whole bunch of my tables. I play NL5, and on Pokerstars you can buy in for deep there. I usually buy in for the standard 100BB, but this guy brought $10 to each of the tables. So we start playing, and I notice that he is a total fish. He raises with trash, calls with trash, goes all in with trash. He plays nearly every hand. I then realize how much I can make off this guy. So I proceed to win about $50 (10 buyins for me) in about 5-10 minutes from that guy ALONE. I controlled the pots and got him to fold when I wanted to and got him to pay out more when I wanted to.
The pots got super fucking huge because I became deep by winning his stacks, and he would refill every time so they got bigger and bigger. It was fucking amazing. Then I lost it all back to him on some coolers, my flush with KQ vs his nut flush, and some stupid loose plays by me in an attempt to win more of his money. It was awesome while it lasted, but I got too greedy and hence became complacent and over eager. We played for a while after but he tightened up and started playing better. It's as if another person started playing for him.
Anyways, I finally unlocked my $50 first deposit bonus :D I'm sitting at about $185 (would be like $230-240 if I had done the sensible thing and called it quits after winning 9856095846 monster pots from him, or at least kept my game tight). But oh well, I learned a hell of a lot from the experience, plus I didn't really lose anything..although it would be nice to still have that in my roll. Anyway I've been playing NL5 for 2 days now, and I think I'm good to move up to NL10 soon
I was thinking of staying at NL5 for a bit longer even if I get the 20 BI for NL10 just so that I climb the stakes ladder properly, but I'm pretty confident that my game is good enough for NL10 so we shall see. Any tips/comments about that?

| | $2,500 tourney at The Venetian by Joe, July 03
Today (or it is actually yesterday already but whatever) I decided to go and play that tournament. It has a nice structure and I thought the field might be quite soft. Well in that I was completely mistaken, the field of 288 was actually pretty tough with most of the people being young internet pros, amongst which were also several familiar names - I was for long time at a table with pbdrunks, who seemed to know like every single person there, so I got to know, that there were also some LP'ers in the tourney (frinkx, lurped, rainkhan) and several other very good players (zeejustin, bodokari, ...).
Well, the tourney started at the noon and for the first 9 hours I was sick colddecked, basically played no hands at all and being still there only thanks to one sick suckout with 56s vs. JJ vs. AKs aipf Later on it got slightly better and I was able to keep up with the average.
Then came this situation: About 42 players left (29 is itm), blinds are 1,500 / 3,000 with 500 ante. Average stack is about 115,000. I have like 129,000 and am in the big blind. It is folded to the CO and the guy raises to 8,000. He has about 97,000. He is a rather young, definately internet player and about normally aggressive. It is folded to me and I find TT in my pocket. What is my move here? Is this a nobrainer reraise / push? Or should I ever consider calling to see flop? If yes, what is my plan then? Or should I even consider folding?
Anyways, I didnt think long about it and just pushed thinking this was the only correct play. He insta called with QQ and my miracle board didnt come. After that our table is split, I play like 2 more hands and then the tourney is over for the day.
So, I am coming to Day 2 crippled to 31,000 in chips. 39 players left (29 makes the money). Not sure what the next level of blinds is gonna be, but probably like 2,000 / 4,000 with ante 500. I wil be starting in one of the middle positions, not sure exactly which one. What is my plan there, what range should I shove? I think quite a wide range, right?
