Today (or it is actually yesterday already but whatever) I decided to go and play that tournament. It has a nice structure and I thought the field might be quite soft. Well in that I was completely mistaken, the field of 288 was actually pretty tough with most of the people being young internet pros, amongst which were also several familiar names - I was for long time at a table with pbdrunks, who seemed to know like every single person there, so I got to know, that there were also some LP'ers in the tourney (frinkx, lurped, rainkhan) and several other very good players (zeejustin, bodokari, ...).

Well, the tourney started at the noon and for the first 9 hours I was sick colddecked, basically played no hands at all and being still there only thanks to one sick suckout with 56s vs. JJ vs. AKs aipf Later on it got slightly better and I was able to keep up with the average.

Then came this situation: About 42 players left (29 is itm), blinds are 1,500 / 3,000 with 500 ante. Average stack is about 115,000. I have like 129,000 and am in the big blind. It is folded to the CO and the guy raises to 8,000. He has about 97,000. He is a rather young, definately internet player and about normally aggressive. It is folded to me and I find TT in my pocket. What is my move here? Is this a nobrainer reraise / push? Or should I ever consider calling to see flop? If yes, what is my plan then? Or should I even consider folding?

Anyways, I didnt think long about it and just pushed thinking this was the only correct play. He insta called with QQ and my miracle board didnt come. After that our table is split, I play like 2 more hands and then the tourney is over for the day.

So, I am coming to Day 2 crippled to 31,000 in chips. 39 players left (29 makes the money). Not sure what the next level of blinds is gonna be, but probably like 2,000 / 4,000 with ante 500. I wil be starting in one of the middle positions, not sure exactly which one. What is my plan there, what range should I shove? I think quite a wide range, right?

im not a fan of a push there, u have 40bbs and just cuz u picked up a marginal hand doesnt mean u have to go allin, 40bbs is a lot =o

would rather reraise smallish and call a push, like a reraise to 22-24k if the guy swings that way
or id call and see a flop and try to keep the pot smallish and sometimes make a big hand (set)

if the guy owns in position or something and i cant quite call a push im prob folding or raise/folding to a shove

i dont like folding it to a button raise and probably wouldnt but i mean what i do here would vary a lot depending on the player

idk if this is great tho =p

ah i see u wrote he's a moderately agressive internet guy ok well in that case im probably in favour if raise/calling b/c his range for getting it in will be lighter than other positions =p

if poker is dangerous to them i would rank sports betting as a Kodiak grizzly bear who smells blood after you just threw a javelin into his cub - RaiNKhANLast edit: 03/07/2008 08:31

3bet/call is much better with your TT. i am only shoving when he has up to 7x the open raise

but yeah get it in with TT there for sure. 40bb's is NOT a lot in live tourneys, it's a lot in online tourneys because usually 40bb is like...chip lead in online events, but 40bb is middle-of-the-pack in most live events, particularly the deep ones like venetian.

if the open raiser was a standard scared-money live nit, then i'd probably flat preflop planning to only put in one bet postflop unless i either (a) hit a set or (b) find a board that is good to bluff

Thanks for advice guys, I agree that 3bet/call push is way better than a straight push.

What about the ranges for today? I think I should be pushing more than only 23% of hands my first hand but dunno.

And Corwin huge gratz to your score yesterday!!!
