Monkey TILT @ FULL TILT by D4imLeR, July 28

Poll: D4imLeR?
(Vote): Sucks..!!

(Vote): Suks..!!
(Vote): Is a pussy..!!

After being a struggling player for a long time I thought I finally got a hang of this poker thing. Reading books, watching vids, playing SnG's and an overall thight-agressive style brought me to build $150 to more than $1K. Had some tilt-issues in the past and thought I outgrew them. I was almost at the point I could start playing 50nl for reg. Now, after one crazy weekend of bad beats and a fatal case of monkey-tilt, I got myself broke.

I started with a 25nl session from hell where I lost 7 buy-ins in less than 2 hours. 70-30 and 60-40 mostly and also a few missed everything-daws. I was pretty pissed about it, but managed to not tilt because I made that mistake before. So I stopped playing cashgames and started a few SnG's. Just played basic, AA-KK or wait till 10bb and start shoving, style. But even here I couldn't win a single hand at showdown. So I stopped playing. Took a shower, ate, drank some beers with friends and went to a few nightclubs. So far saturday.

Sunday I woke up with a hangover. Because I mostly drank whiskey when I was out clubbing, it only was the kind of stinging headache wich you'll forget about when it's around for a while. Not the fucked up stomach like you'll get from getting wasted on beer. But w/e, felt well enough to play some poker. Started out fine and won two buy-ins with more or less hero-calls. Then I started thinking about the $120something and SNG buyins I was still stuck from the day before. Figured I would get it back sooner when I started playing 50nl.

Took some small shots before and it always ended up well cause my concentration is better when I play higher stakes. So I was casually playing four tables. Stole some pots in standard situations and was up a bit when the weirdest thing happened. Got AA on two tables and got them both allin pre. Identical raggish flops and both a K on fourth street. Sure as hell both opponents showed KK and I was getting in tiltville. Got JJ allin pre against I knew was QQ+. Started playing more and more like a donk as I was bleeding more and more money. Then I got Aces again, opened the pot with like $10 so there was no doubt I had AA or KK. Got called anyway and the flop was A22. Got it allin and the guy showed 22. All of tis in a few hours

I broke my mouse, walked out of the room, slammed the door and started nagging at my roommate who was sleeping on the couch and doesn't give a shit about poker. He looked at me like he was going to say "dude, grow up you pussy". That pissed me of even more and with the whatever money I had left I sat down at 600nl 6-max. Started 3-betting every opening raise and finally got it in with 88 and got called by what had to be AA. When an A hit on the flop my destiny was sealed and at once I was like really calm. Saw the 800ish pot got pushed the other guys way, typed nh and went to bed.

Today at work nobody really cared about my story obv. That's why I post it here. Maybe one of you went to something similar or maybe one of you will be in the future. I learned, for the thirth fucking time, that moving up limits isn't the way to cover losses. Shots, when taken, should be taken when running above expectation so you can affort to lose it. I thought about this issue alot today and this is the conclusion. My nature of not being willing to fail and to never give up has been a blessing, also in poker. Under normal to hard circumstances that is. When there is no possibility to succeed I push it anyway to a point where I make big mistakes and do stupid shit.

So I guess this was it for me and poker. Maybe one of you ballers is willing to get me back on track at 25nl and for $11 SnG. Or maybe I'll win the lotery this month, same odds I guess . Otherwise I'll quit cause I'm not depositing any money I worked for anymore.

Oke, thanks for reading and have a good one.

GL to you all!

Wutup ELPEE by bour420, July 28

Sitting at work in Century City doing nothing because the economy is bad so business is bad so coffee-pouring, mail-stamping ballers like myself dont have to do much so I decided to briefly introduce myself to LP given that I spend all day here reading and posing on the low stakes forum. My buddy CDunc aka traxamillion and me are good buddies and he got me into poker about 8 months ago while staying at my bachelor pad in Santa Cruz. I was really into it but unfortunately i became addicted to pain killers (bad back) and quickly moved on to heroin. Im really not ashamed of it, I went to rehab, did what I had to do and now Im sober and trying to get my life back together. I love poker, am intelligent and analytic-minded, and seeing as I dont want to work a 9-5, I figure this the closest thing to a get-semi-rich quick scheme that I can find. Ive been grinding Commerce 40 NL but the rake is bad and I kno online is the way to go. Hopefully soon enough I can get a place with some cool poker-heads I meet on this site and make shit happen. Glad to be apart of the community and hope to hear back from you all.

Know how to win wars? by k2o4, July 28

This guy makes a good point.

Link to original story

John McCain's new favorite campaign line seems to be "I know how to win wars." He used the line in numerous interviews and speeches in the past week in response to Barack Obama's overseas trip. In fact, McCain likes the line so much that in one speech he used it twice in two sentences. "'I know how to win wars. I know how to win wars,' McCain told the audience at a town hall meeting in Albuquerque," according to the Washington Post.

John McCain served his country honorably. But what wars, exactly, has he won and why doesn't the media ask him?

Was it the Vietnam War? McCain showed uncommon bravery by surviving 5 and a half years in a North Vietnamese prison camp, but he certainly didn't win the Vietnam War. America was defeated in Vietnam, after losing the lives of over 58,000 soldiers and spending over $500 billion which helped cause the stagflation of the 1970s. Moreover, despite the warnings of Vietnam hawks that losing the Vietnam War would lead to a disastrous defeat in the Cold War as communist dominoes would fall throughout Asia, America's safety and security was not seriously damaged. Today Vietnam is a significant trading partner.

Was it the Kosovo War? That war was waged by President Clinton, under the command of Gen. Wesley Clark, who won the air war without the loss of a single American life. During that time, John McCain was urging that America commit ground troops to Kosovo, a step that proved unnecessary, would have led to needless American deaths, and would probably have been counterproductive.

Was it the War in Afghanistan? In 2001-2002, the Taliban and Al Qaeda were all but defeated but John McCain supported George Bush's decision to draw down American troops in Afghanistan -- from whose territory Al Qaeda planned the attack on the World Trade Center -- in order to send them to Iraq which had not attacked America and where, before the invasion of Iraq, Al Qaeda had no operational presence. As a result, Osama Bin Laden was allowed to escape from Tora Bora, today Al Qaeda is stronger than ever and capable of planning further attacks on America and the West, the Taliban is resurgent, and American and NATO casualties are mounting.

Was it the War in Iraq? John McCain predicted, along with George Bush and Dick Cheney, that America would be greeted as liberators. Instead, after 5 and a half years of war, over 4,000 American deaths and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi deaths, at least $1 trillion in costs to the taxpayers, and an American military which is stretched near the breaking point, America is still bogged down in a quagmire. Even taking at face value the most optimistic assessments, even agreeing for the sake of argument that "the surge has worked" (a vast over-simplification), the very best that can be hoped for is an Iraq led by a weak central government with strong ties to Iran, a balkanized country ethnically cleansed into Shiite, Sunni and Kurd enclaves, and a continued low level civil war which will last for years to come. John McCain may fantasize about a military "victory in Iraq" with American troops marching home in celebration to the sound of drums and bugles, but not even the most optimistic analysts see such a victory on the horizon.

It's a bit dangerous to psychoanalyze a politician from afar. Nonetheless, it's hard not to wonder whether, having suffered 5 and a half years as a prisoner in a war that America lost, John McCain feels the need to win a war, any war. One must be concerned that as President, McCain will opt for war as the first choice, not the last choice. With America now embroiled in two wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, neither of which are not going well, one has to worry about John McCain's desire to "bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran".

John McCain continues to repeat the refrain, "I know how to win wars". It's time for serious reporters to ask him, "You have served your country honorably, Sir, but exactly which wars have you won?"

review by clee, July 28

tl;dr

So i've managed to play a combined total of 2-3k hands in the last week. Still having trouble integrating hands into my database plus the fact my keyboard at home is f8cked up so cant write up blog entries with hand histories etc. but definitely have some interesting hands i'd like people's comments on and will try and submit them later tonight.

I've really been enjoying playing the lower stakes, not just depositing money, taking shots with 1 buyin and exhibiting 0 bankroll mgmt. When I had only 125 left in the account I resisted the temptation to upload a HU 1/2NL table with half a stack to try and chase my losses. In fact I've been through several situations that in the past would have caused me to monkeytilt/ force me to reload - set over set/ flush over flush/ Aces losing to kings/ queens vs kings

Instead I've stuck to my lower limits and ground it up. Im up to 12 buyins now for 50NL, had a sick session last night which started disastrously, losing 2 75/25 flips for 1 buyin each but salvaged the wreckage and kept my cool.

- I've started to use a bit more selection when I play, im playing 4-5 tables at a time, enough to keep it interesting and learning to multi=table is a skill unto itself.
- I notice now who the regs are at the stakes I play, made some notes on them and generally try to avoid tables full of regs whom I note as quite nitty/tight, theres definitely sufficient amounts of donators at the lower stakes to justify not playing the nits.

My plans are - keep grinding out the bonus/ take shots at 100NL. I have an ambitious plan of moving up limits quickly. I'll definitely continue reading forums/ watching deucescracked videos (they've been really helping) trying to get more active hand discussion going.

Once I hit 200NL I will start looking for a coach for 6max/HU and consider moving part of my roll to try and grind another sign up bonus.

Anyways thx for reading, its almost therapeutic to write down my successes and failures/ and keeps me honest If anything I've noticed, its that as a casual table gambler (BJ/Roulette) its very easy to lie to yourself about losses/wins and not keeping records in poker allows the same sort of behaviour which is obviously intolerable for any serious player.

Ship my life by SakiSaki, July 27

My life is so good right now. This weekend was awesome, there was plenty of bad fish playing and Ive been running like jesus.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/d30cccba000b085471f46a16deb8a69b.jpg

Also, the weather has been fucking awesome the last few days. After like month of rainy cloudy kinda shit weather we have finally had some really hot sweet awesome fucking summer days. Ive just been playing beach volleyball and swimming/chilling all day and its been fucking great. SHIP!

In poker, I have managed to motivate myself alot more. For the first time in a very long time I REALLY want to be able to beat high stakes games. For quite a long time I have been quite content with playing mid stakes games raking in a nice profit and being able to play my way through school, alot of this obv having to do with me going on a fuckall suicide downswing and having to get staked etc. With that pain fresh in my mind, grinding 2/4 and 3/6 for the rest of my poker carrer didnt sound so bad.

But watching KRANTZ rake in a 100k pot while being high on hasch brownies just did something to me. Fuck paying my way through school. Fuck having some money to throw around. I fucking want it all. I wanna beat 10/20 and 25/50. I wanna have 100k months. I wanna buy a nice appartment in Stockholm. I wanna fucking set myself up for life.

This sudden urge to have it all has definitely had a positive effect on my game. I feel sooo focused on playing my absolute best, and improving every way I can. Now I will probably still cash out a healthy chunk each month, but from this day on, I have my eye on the prize. Im going to improve. And im going to beat 25/50 one day.

Oh, and results for July:

Quick July Summary by Joe, July 27

Hello LP,

today I am leaving for my 1 month long trip to Spain and I wont probably be playing any more poker this month and very little the next month. So I decided to make quick summary of how July went before I leave.

The first half of July I was in Vegas attending the WSOP Main Event and some other tourneys. I didnt do well in the tournaments only cashing in one for the minimum prize and overall I ended up about $7.5k down for all the tourneys. Anyways, I managed to win about the same in cash games, live and online together.

Then when I came back home, I started grinding midstakes and played a fairly nice style, which combined together with decent run and fishinnes of my opponents resulted to me winning close to $17k in about 13k hands, which is pretty nice and is also my final result for the month.

I am in somewhat a hurry atm, I will try to post more stuff later. Cya later lp!

The mystery of the missing trousers by thestoryteller, July 27

I have about 9 hours to go before my reservist training (in Singapore, all males serve in the army at 18 for a couple of years, after which we have to report back once a year for a number of years for reservist training) and I am in trouble. My camoflauge trousers are obviously far too effective for peacetime as I cannot for the life of me find either pair anywhere in my house. Or my mother's house, for that matter.

It's all very comforting that during times of war, wearing those trousers will render my lower half completely invisible if I choose to hide in a wardrobe, but right now, I really don't want to have to walk into camp with my balls hanging out.

I think I'm going to have to pull out an ancient pair of camoflauge trousers - the pair I wore when I was 18 - and wear that to camp, and then buy a couple of new pairs while I'm there. The trousers are the button fly type - 4 buttons down the front, and I can comfortably button up 2. The trousers must have shrunk, obviously.

I'm not allowed to blog about anything that happens during training, of course, but I don't think I'll be playing poker till I'm done (about a week from now). Darn. I'm going to miss that.
