SnG @ Stars
  gustik, Apr 22 2009

Hello everyone.

This is my first blogpost and first official post on this site. I was a spectator for a long time and finally registered. I hope noone will be offensive to me when my first post is like that.

I was introduced to the poker when I saw some advertisement on site back when I was 17yr old and started playing for playmoney chips on Stars for like months. After some time when it started to be legal thing for me I took a no deposit bonus on Titan and made some money. Next step was ongame network (betsafe) where I was until now. I made my roll up to about 500 and played 5usd SnGs (non-turbo). I tried some shots to 10usd which kinda destructed my bankroll and then I tilted alot because of it on cash and tournaments when I had no clue what I was doing. I started playing 5ones again and I made a good rebuild but then stupid cashout and cash again and it all went wrong again.

10usd sngs were just too much for me and now I realized I was kinda in a rush to be play so high buyins (for me). I didn't play too much on 5 ones so I lack some skill.

Here is my graph from sharkscope on betsafe using nickname gust1k - this graph shows all of my sngs with the 10usd bi downsing and tilting afterwards + then rebuilding.

Here is my graph of 5usd sngs only

Tho I have some bankroll on ongame I would like to start playing on Stars too. But I don't want to move rest of my banroll from site to site I started thinking about staking.

Is there any chance to get staked on Pokerstars? I was thinkink about it for some time now and I would like to play 6.50 turbo's (260 bucks = 40bi), if that is too much 3.40 (136 bucks = 40bi) would be fine also.

I was thinking about some deal of exact number of SnGs and then paying back ammount of stake + half (or more) of the profit. Too bad there is noone that could vouch for me. If anyone is interested please feel free and post here on PM.

Thanks
Gustik

sigh + lifetime stuff
  CrownRoyal, Apr 21 2009

So i can't win @ nl200. No one is good there, i hate complaining about running bad but i get stupid stuff like 3b pot kq vs aq on a q hi board (cant fold here sorry, dont like getting ran over) I'm down 1200 over 9k hands there wtfever fml.

I basically win like 800 @ nl100 and then lose 400 at nl200 and rinse and repeat. sigh
I've been playing 22/18 this month 12-16 tabling and winning @ 3ptbb which is a much better hourly than my 30/25 game @ 4.5ptbb/100 playing 2-6 tables.

Lifetime @ nl100

cool hand.

level 3 thinking
  angryfishes, Apr 21 2009

so i read about this story the other day, of zhuge liang the great military strategist.

zhuge liangs army was out far away doing some stuff, while he was just chilling in the city of a recently conquered place with like 10 men. suddenly, he got news that the enemey general was approaching the city with his massive 999999 army. there was no way zhuge liangs army could come back in time. so zhuge liang immediately ordered everyone to disarm, start the city fires, and do normal people things, and leave the city gate wide open. of coz everyone was like WUT! he then decided it would be uber to sit on the city wall next to the gates, and start playing his flute.

so the general and his massive army approach the city. they see the city functioning as normal and everyone at ease, which is of coz super weird since they shld be all defensive knowing an army is coming. then they are like omg ship it and start walking thru the opened city gates. suddenly the general sees the uber zhuge liang playing his flute and recognises him. knowing of his fearsome repuation, he knew it couldnt be this easy and concluded....

.

.

.

and immediately ran his 99999 army back home

Limit Coaching
  angryfishes, Apr 21 2009

if any of you nl players would like to learn / give limit a shot, im your man for it

this will be for 6max only, and will be only for the limits .5/.10 up to the limits .50/1

what i offer:
-sweating sessions
-hand reviews
-optimal lines to use vs the "four main" player types
-stats review/leak finding
-starting hands to play by game type you're in- derived from countless hours at poker stove
-no seminar in vegas

anyway there will be two payment options to choose from:

1)the first would be a small hourly fee- obv micro players dont have much br to spare
2)"free" with some form of profit sharing or something which can be discussed.

these are my stats at the micros
first half of graph was when i was nl player b4 i switched to limit

i am especially confident in my teaching ability as i taught a good friend of mine (for free of coz lol) - from being totally clueless at poker turn a 20$ deposit at 0.02 / 0.04 into 400 and hes playing .5/1 now. also was a finance tutor at uni teaching classrooms of 20+ if thats relevant, so im used to finding the best ways to explain stuff.

any questions, ASK!

Hiatus and Various Updates
  [vital]Myth, Apr 17 2009

Copied from my blog at CR:

So I've been inactive on CR for a while now. Primarily, my 2-month hiatus was due to the fact that the recent economic downturn has hurt my parents really badly, and I've had to spend a lot of time and money helping them remain afloat. As such, I was almost completely busto in March. But they got to keep their house and managed to finally find some work, and I no longer have to support them (at least for now), which is a huge relief.

I filed for extension on my taxes because I'd much rather pay penalties in 6 months than to have my bankroll slashed dramatically right now. Additionally, I sold Peachy my live cash game action. So I'm now backed for live tourneys, online tourneys, and live cash, but I have my own online cash action. Sweet, since I don't play online cash anymore. /sarcasm

Nothing really happened in March. I made a final table in a small event at the Wynn Classic and busted 6th for who cares how much. I bubbled the main event, again, for the 2nd year in a row now. Last year I busted 28th when 27 paid, and this year I busted 14th when 12 paid. I lost a bit of money in live cash games (playing on my own action at the time). I did have fun on my birthday though, as well as my girlfriend's birthday (more on her later).

In April I sold peachy my live cash action, using the same make-up as everything else (about $55k to start), and got back on the tourney grind. I bricked the $5k WSOP-Circuit event at Harrah's Rincon in San Diego, then bricked the $10k WPT event at Foxwoods, but made like $5k playing $5/10 NL cash there also. I made about $3k playing $5/10 at a local card room in San Diego during that time. Then I came back to Vegas and hit the tables hard. I'm up almost $13k so far in $5/10 games. In the $10k SCOOP Main Event, I busted 12th for $65,020, paid out my 5% swap with Daut, and got out of make-up officially. Tonight, I won the first single-table satellite that I played to the $25k WPT Main Event at Bellagio, picking up two last-longer pools in the process. I paid $3k for the satellite, $1300 for the two last longers, and $5100 to lilholdem for a 20% save that we agreed upon. So I am playing the $25k for $3700 make-up. Sweet life! That puts me up more than $40k for April, which is a huge relief. Hopefully I can cash in the $25k and make a nice score for the tiny amount I paid.

So I'll briefly say that my girlfriend is awesome. If you have me on Facebook, you can see her in pics with me. She's really, really, VERY good for me, and I am extremely optimistic about her.

I'm rolling out some new videos this month, beginning with some SSNL Leakfinders, and I'll have a couple MSNL Leakfinders coming out as well, followed by a few new series to round out 2009. Additionally, I had an article published in CardPlayer this month, and I have an interview set to be published next month. I've been recommended to write for them full-time, so hopefully I get that gig - it will be great for my exposure. In May, I'm looking to take on several new students, which is always nice.

If you're reading this and interested in a long-term coaching deal, please inquire! Note that my minimum starting requirements are an $8k bankroll and willingness to play at least $1/2.

Harder Better Faster Stronger
  CrownRoyal, Apr 15 2009

So i took the milkman challenge yesterday after i read his blog about drinking all day and playing HU. I started drinking at 4pm and playing some reg heads up on 2 tables. I quickly accumulated a $750 profit raping his soul and stuff but then i lost 2 huge like 500 dollar pots to him and broke even. sigh. Then I made some burritos and ate them while watching gomtv and my friend called me and we went backroading (drinking and driving on back roads, you arent gonna get it or understand unless you're a redneck). Before we went though we went to the gas station to get beer and in pulled a girl who im really good friends with and one of my ex fuck buddies was with her. I hate my ex fuck buddy with an immense passion so i obv ignored her and eventually after drinking enough me and my friend decided fuck it two girls and two guys is better than 2dudes so we picked them up. I was obv being a huge douche and having an insanely fun time singing really loud and being the greatest DJ of all time. Ex fuck buddy kept asking me to come sit in the back seat with her but i obv turned her down knowing in the back of my mind that i would eventually find my way back there but oh well, the more she tries to get it and the longer i wait the more she wants it so i had to make sure to play my hand right.

soooooooo a few beers later i mingle my way into the back seat and she just starts making out with me lolol, i tell her to take her top off and she complies and here we go i got a live sex show starting, right???????? she wont take her pants off so wtfever, fail, i start ignoring her and she keeps rubbing up on me but wont take her pants off so whatever. Then like, im really confused what happened but somehow we ended up back at my house and the girls leaving and her screaming "WHY DONT YOU GO FUCK SONYA" as i was standing outside my truck dumbfounded and shirtless.

so... we're going out tonight. i haven't gotten laid in a while, run good one time???????

and she gave me a fucking hickey, im getting revenge.

My ambitions as a grindahhh
  CrownRoyal, Apr 13 2009

what does this graph mean?

when the lines start to skyrocket apart is me starting to play like 12-16 tables instead of my old 4-8. I think im running 800 dollars below expectation and losing insane amounts of money without showdown winnings, is that correct as to what this graph is saying??? I dont have PT3 so this graph is from PokerEV and pt2.

just wanna make sure that this means that im spewing lots of money in non showdown situations or something. My game is a completely different game when im mass tabling so im assuming im just leaking everywhere but i want to be reassured of this

edit 2 - this is my april results btw although my converter is missing at least 500 in profit im up way more than its saying i am.

edit 3 - its missing 6k hands im assuming thats why i dont have all my profitz. wtf why am i missing hands

when to move up?
  Gsr_01_integ, Apr 12 2009

Im playing nl25 have almost 1k on there what is a point to move up in limits? I dont want to take any shots I want to have a solid roll where it wont effect to think of the money just to play a solid game. So at what point should i move up stay at a 40 buy in and move up then? I play anywhere from 16-20 tables at a time.

Thanks for the input

Rofl funny story about my cousin and an essay
  makito, Apr 11 2009

ok long story short, my cousin started taking community college classes , after he graduated with a bachelors like 3 years ago. I guess you need some back up info on him, when he was younger he played soccer professionally in colombia in a team called Millonarios, and played colombia national team under 17. He moved to the US to continue his studies and for security reasons. He stopped exercising and went from being 100 pounds in 1999 to 310 pounds today.

He had to write a paper for a psychology class he had about something that was keeping him from progression in his life and he was too lazy to write it and asked my sister to write it for him.

Here it is, I found it funny because he kinda got mad but then he laughed about it. Also i found myself identified with it, so i dont know I will share it with you guys

Running Head: I WILL START TOMORROW

I will start tomorrow: An Analysis of My Procrastination Habit
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Abstract
Procrastination is a type of behavior which is characterized by delaying actions or tasks to a later time. In this paper I attempt to analyze my procrastination habit following a Cognitive Behavioral approach.

My alarm clock goes off and according to my daily planner I have to exercise and study for my Psychology test. It is now five thirty in the afternoon and I have spent the whole day watching a marathon of a show I do not even like. Exercise and study will have to be re scheduled for tomorrow.

My best friend was telling me the other day how now she gets up thirty minutes earlier to exercise. I told her that I had created this amazing work out routine based on my previous training as a soccer player. The exercise plan is basically getting up and biking five miles to the local pool, swimming for an hour, coming back home biking, and then in the afternoon biking again to the beach and doing interval training in the sand for an hour….and of course biking back home. She told me I was setting myself up for failure, but I assure her I was going to stick to it. This is of course, probably the hundredth time she has listened to my exercise plans that never get to be practiced. For the last two years I have created all kinds of approaches and goal setting strategies to exercise, I have said I am going to learn several languages, and have developed several ways to take my company to the next level. Sadly most of these ideas only stay in my head and never get to be executed.

Procrastination (2008) in Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia is defined as a type of behavior which is characterized by deferment of actions or tasks to a later time. I am now back to school to pursue graduate studies in Physical Therapy and I know that I cannot afford to pursue this endeavor the same way I approached things in my college years. If I had the opportunity to seek professional help for my procrastination habit I would look for a therapist who follows a cognitive approach since I think becoming aware of the reason of my habit and being able to change my mentality is something I can achieve with this type therapy.

In the article Time Management and organization, Dombeck (1995) said that procrastination can best be understood by identifying the emotions associated with or underlying the behavior. Procrastination is an attempt to cope with emotional reactions of fear or failure, anger, dislike of the work, and seeking pleasure. King (1998) took this statement further saying that if the therapy begins with the notion that procrastination is not the basic “problem” but rather an attempted “cure” for these feelings and emotions then it is obvious that most procrastinators will have to focus on the real problems, underlying fears, attitudes and irrational ideas, in order to overcome the procrastinating behavior. After accepting this idea, the next step is to figure out what type of procrastination style the patient displays. From this point, each procrastinator must deal with his/her own unique emotions, skills, thoughts, and unconscious motives.

Dombeck (1995) described two fundamental kinds of procrastinators: one tense and the other relaxed. The tense type often feels both an intense pressure to succeed and a fear of failure. This type of procrastinator fees overwhelmed by pressures, is unrealistic about time, is uncertain about goals, is dissatisfied with accomplishments, is indecisive, blames others or circumstances for failures, lacks confidence and is sometimes perfectionist. Thus, the underlying fears are of failing, lacking ability, being imperfect, and falling short of overly demanding goals. This type thinks his/ her worth is determined by what he/she does. Thus, this kind of procrastinator will get over-stressed and over-worked until he/she escapes the pressure temporarily by trying to relax but any enjoyment gives rise to guilt and more apprehension.
On the other hand, the relaxed, pleasure seeking procrastinator seems, at first, to be less complicated, but careful observation of their thoughts and emotions suggests differently. This type is said to be much more common among college students than the tense-afraid type. These procrastinators may be addicted to people or preoccupied with meeting their more basic emotional needs such as attention and approval by peers, love, or self-esteem. For some students these other needs make studying almost impossible. In addition to emotional needs, the relaxed procrastinator’s thoughts may push him/her away from his work or studies. To such a person the gain is not worth the pain, especially since the necessary work is seen by them as so distasteful or boring that they just cannot do it (Dombeck, 1995).

Cognitive behavioral therapy can help a person who struggles with procrastination understand the causes of the problem, and learn skills to break through the habit. This includes developing skills to set concrete, specific, and realistic goals, to break tasks down into small manageable pieces, to make dates with others to do things together, and to establish incentives to carry out agreed-upon tasks. Overcoming procrastination has to be a gradual process and the treatment differs depending on the procrastination style of the patient (Knaus, 2002)
For the tense procrastinator, Fiore (2006), recommended a program that aims to reduce the fear of failing by helping the patent recognize his/her worth is not totally determined by an assignment at work or by a term paper grade, having alternate plans B and C for succeeding, in case plan A does not work, and using self-talk and self forgiveness techniques. Cognitive therapists suggest this type of procrastinator to keep a journal in which they record in detail their thoughts and feelings associated with studying. This helps them see how their fears, excuses, competing needs, and habits divert attention from studying. Based on this insight they can change procrastinating ways of thinking to productive ways.

Dombeck (1995) declared that the relaxed procrastinator will not feel much pressure to change, unless he/she is confronted with reality by some event such as failing a class or by serious thoughts about where his/her life is headed. This type of procrastinator shows a deep dislike for the chores they are avoiding. He suggested that these procrastinators create these feelings by telling themselves the tasks are awful, unfair, or by putting themselves down by setting impossible goals. Then they procrastinate to avoid their own self-created emotional dislike of the job at hand. Cognitive Therapy helps relaxed procrastinators to see clearly how pleasure seeking may, in the long run, lead to unhappiness and show them that procrastination occurs because they are able to trick themselves into believing it is okay to have fun now and put off our work.

Relaxed procrastinators according to Knaus (2002) need to identify and control three kinds of common diversions they use to avoid the tasks that need to be done. The first diversion is called action cop-outs. This is basically doing something that is not a priority. Examples of this diversion include watching TV, eating, playing, sleeping, or even cleaning. Once the procrastinator is engrossed in the diversion, they block out the anxiety, self-doubts, anger, or boredom associated with the work they are putting off but should be doing. The second type of diversion is called mental excuses, which include thoughts such as “I will do it tomorrow” or “I do my best work late at night, I will do it then”. The third type of diversions is emotional diversions. Taking drugs, listening to music, reading novels, and even getting involved in friendships, love, flirtations, or religion could, at times, serve as an escape from unpleasant but important tasks. When felt tempted to procrastinate the patient should use this temptation as a signal to become an objective self-observer, and use a procrastination log to gather information. The procrastination log is a valuable tool to help identify the perceiving, thinking, emotion, diversions, and action paths the patient follows as he /she procrastinate. This awareness exercise provides information to identify the “where,” “what,” and “how” of procrastination.

After identifying the causes of the procrastination the patient should follow a method to set realistic, attainable goals. Fiore (2006) suggests a unique scheduling system that includes fixed hours (classes, meetings, meals, etc.) and play time. Rewards are given if the patient starts a project and can concentrate on it for 30 minutes. The idea is to build the habit of frequently getting to work and to build the desire to work and to learn the habit of getting started on a task early. Practice starting studying several times every day for an exam next week is an example of his technique. As with exercising, getting in control of starting and making it a routine are the secrets.
After doing this research for this paper I can identify myself as a relaxed procrastinator. I can recognize that most of the thoughts that have held me back from exercising, studying, and working harder are mental diversions I have created and somehow believed in. I am aware now that my idea that only by exercising the same way I did when I practice soccer is the only way I can lose weight is just a mental excuse I have created to not follow a more realistic exercise routine. I am also aware of the pleasure seeking activities I engage in order to avoid important tasks. I will like to learn more about the techniques to overcome this habit and will be definitely using the other methods mentioned in this paper.

Insomnia
  CrownRoyal, Apr 07 2009

Ok. There is something wrong with me. I have an unreal focus the past week, it's indescribable. I have been playing the longest sessions of poker in my life and sleeping a maximum of 2 hours a day. During my waking hours I am playing poker almost the entire day long (40k hands already this month playing not that many tables). This is obviously amazing because its exactly what I need to do cause im not really comforable playing for a living @ nl100. I have a br i dont think i could ever bust @ nl100 but I still feel sketchy about having 5k and expecting to make a living off of it when i have nothing saved up in the bank.

The problem lies in why the fuck am i not sleeping??? It can't be healthy to only sleep 1-2 hours a day and I want to sleep. I TRY to sleep but I fail. I decided to chase the gold card 500 rake race type thing on cake and am currently in the top 10. I played poker for 14 hours straight. I tried to lay down and sleep because i felt mentally and physically exhausted but I just laid there unable to sleep at all. My solution??? play more hands sigh.

In the spirit of realizing fayth is right and I should quit trying to live like a baller for 6months and just save my money and really be able to ball I havent drank a drop of alcohol in the past week. I really hope that this doesnt have something to do with it. I really really hope that my sleep isnt dependent on drinking that would be awful. I guess this is a blessing in some way but it could turn into the worst thing that ever happened to me if my life is fucked up for a period of time longer than I want it to be. I used to play 10-15k hands a month MAXIMUM and lose focus constantly and was literally the biggest failure of a grinder ever. Now I'm playing 15k hands in a session np.

<3 life right now but i hope stuff gets rearranged soon.
