Starting to grind again
Daut, Sep 10 2007
I've started a few new backing deals lately and because of it my online roll starting to get pretty short, so i decided to stop fucking around in new games, hu sngs, plo, mtt, and to just grind cash for the most part.
I've been doing so poorly in mtt it really angers me. It seems like every tourney i either run bad or play bad. I never run well when i play well and the result is terrible results. I'll have to concentrate on that for the rest of this month, as wcoop is coming up and so is WPT borgata, but for now im going to try to mainly grind cash and just play a few tournaments a week.
here are my stats so far this month in NL. I havent played a lot because i wasted all of sunday playing mtts and i was down the shore for 5 of the other days, so ive only really had 4 days to play.

i think for the most part im playing well but ive had some slipups here and there and I can definitely play better. the session i played today i was very happy with the way things went and i think ill try to grind out 2-3k hands a day from here out.
There's one problem preventing me from grinding. The air conditioning on the second floor of my house is broken, so its about 84 degrees up here. I have trouble staying up here for an extended period of time, so my sessions will most likely be 2 hours tops until its fixed.

Huuuuuuuuugely succesful move up to 1/2 (lol 12bb/100, if only that was sustainable :D)
Moving up was seriously a really, really good decision because I haven't tilted a single time yet, which might be partly because I've been running good/not playing much, but also I think it's because the money at 1/2 hurts way more than the money at .5/1 (IE I played so much .5/1 it didn't feel good/bad losing a buyin).
I also finally feel like I'm not playing on auto-pilot, maybe it's all running good but I feel like I can tell a little bit better what type of hands people have and therefore I might be getting better value than before.
Table selecting reallllly carefully now, I think this might be one of the best additions to my winrate ever (I started it sometime last month), not just joining the tables with the biggest avg. pot.
Hands!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/266274 - First allin at 1/2!
Since I know this guy is pretty floaty/tricky/aggro I think, since I picked up the NFD) it might be better to just call and let him bluff.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/266357 - Hybris from winning a big pot at another table, I put him on weak ace and thought he could fold it :[ (I had played almost no hands at this table due to being carddead so.. this was like first hand I raised in a really long time).
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/266358 - there's the big pot!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/266359 - Lol, I'm lucky he didn't raise me on the flop, I'd have been allin soooo fast.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/266389 - Sooo ugly, better betsizes would have helped me on the river.
A pretty funny hand that I wasn't involved in:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/267033
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/267057 - Weeee
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/267297 - Biggest pot I'd won at the time, might be biggest still, not sure.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/267301 -
vs 18/2.. I figured I'd get more money from his JJ, QQ by calling than by RR flop. Ugly river.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/267310 - bankin the sklansky bucks
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/267330 - bankin real money! It's awesome when you have a guy willing to felt Q6s preflop.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/267851 - I thought given his extremely strong line I might be better off just calling (since I have 0 fold equity).
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/267854 - So THAT'S how it's done..!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/267856 - Ez shippin', nice of him to more or less tell me he had a flush as well :D
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/267978 - A revolutionary new way to play ace king..!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/267979 - WEe.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/267980 - more sklansky bucks
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/267981 - Proooobably should have bet turn to protect my hand from strong hearts? Although he might bet those again on the turn, or semi-bluff c/r.. Hm.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/267982 - Ah~ Doh.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/268023 - One of the first hands of the session, slowplayed KKK vs my turned set = ouch.
Didn't tilt at all tho and ended up running over 2 tables playing 25/20~ for a while.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/268065 - Teodore had JJ, thought I was isolating the A9 fish (which I obv was doing a lot). Might be better to 4bet here?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/268066 - Thought he'd slowplay a ten.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/268067 - Noo, thought he had a weaker straight Oh well, not much I can do about this, 70/X/X guy can have a lot of hands here.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/268068 - Repping the Ace king~_~
6k reached!
Altogether an exceptional start to september, hopefully I'll play a lot while I'm running this well (I played my 2 longest 1/2 session after I lost a buyin early on, although only 1 of them ended negative - barely - this is a bad pattern).
Need a smack in the head for always chasing losses and quitting early when winning (although I'm usually quitting because I feel like I'm getting overly cautious not to lose, I tend to ignore similiar symptoms suggesting I quit when I'm losing).
Dunno how much rakeback I've got coming, but it should be a few hundred at least, hopefully by the end of the month - coupled with rakeback - I'll have enough for NL300 or NL400. Although I'm not really in a hurry to move up, I just hope I'll be able to, should I feel ready.
I almost sat in a NL300 game today after I couldn't find a good 4th 1/2 table but decided against it despite there being a 60/0/0 (well something low) fish in there with a big stack.
Oh, there's a ton more regs who love to squeeze up at 1/2, I can imagine that getting really frustrating if you run bad.

Some mspaints from the past
Daut, Sep 05 2007
I have a 2 monitor setup and on my left monitor i had most of my mspaint works lined up.
I recently went through and looked at all of them and realized i hadnt posted a few on the blog because i drew them for friends or girlfriends.
I cant really think of anything to draw right now so ill post some of my past works. here is part of my gallery
A scene from the movie boogie nights:

my ex and i used to listen to a lot of nine inch nails, and she was particularly afraid of this song on the fragile called 'pilgrimage'. it reminded her of the urukhai from lord of the rings.

the last day of college during undergrad there was this weird lady sitting near the dumpster collecting some of the stuff students were throwing out for a garage sale the school was running. my ex and i gave her a microwave and she exclaimed "OOOOHHH TREASURESSSSSS" it was worthy of trying to draw a picture

i was watching a dog show with the same ex as above and there was this silly looking dog called the bedlington that came on. take a look at this funny creature (yes it really is a dog):

i go "jesus that thing looks like a sheep"
she yelled at me and said "NOOO! ITS A LAAAAAAAAAMB"

as i look at these i think back to what a fish mspainter i used to be. one day i will be the best. im going to start reviewing my sessions and taking responsibility for all of my mspaints. if i want to be the best i have to put in the time and effort and review every drawing and really cut down on tilt.
this will also help:

a nice little mspaint tutorial. with these hints i will be unstoppable.

Rebooting the Blog
JonnyCosMo, Sep 05 2007
So a lot has happened since my last blog entry... I'm totally the laziest person ever when it comes to updating things. I wanted to do some more updates from Vegas w/ more pictures but Nazgul took down the WSOP Blogs so I kinda lost interest in doing that. I'm thinking I'm going to zip all the pictures I took (I'm such an asian tourist) and just make them available to everyone.
Some updates with me: I'm back in school! LOL I know... Kind of un-baller of me, but it's awesome. Yes I said school is awesome. I'm currently going to San Diego State University, and living in a new appartment complex 10 mins away in Mission Valley (another 10 mins from the beach) with my roommate Marshall28. Here's a quick list of pros and cons since I've moved down to San Diego:
Pros:
1. The whether is a constant 85-90 degrees, without fail. Around the beach it's around 80. It is constantly warm but not blazing hot. So perfect.
2. The bar scene here is amazing. On PB (Pacific Beach) there are two main streets where all the action goes down, and since San Diego is a huge college town (There are 3 colleges here in the same city, SDSU, UCSD, and USD) it pretty much becomes a very popular central gathering spot. The bars are right along the beach so... get drunk --> swim in the ocean. Ez Life.
3. The girls in San Diego are easily hotter than any place on this planet. I will bet bankrolls on this fact. You really need to come down here and see for yourself because my friends told me this before and I totally didn't believe them. No, it's 100% true.
4. Downtown is just so baller, with very Vegas like clubs and restaurants.
5. It's a 4 hour drive to Vegas.
6. [vital]Myth is an hour north from where I live. And I really hope he comes and enlightens me with his magical words of wisdom.
Cons:
1. The motherfuckers that work at the Fry's Electronics near where I live are all fucking retarded. Just bought a $1600 desktop computer yesterday and I specifically ask one thing about 5-6 times to the 2 different guys helping me: "CAN THIS COMPUTER HOOK UP TWO MONITORS?" And each time they both were like "Yes of course!". Well I open the box when I get back to my place and guess what! Video card only has one slot for a monitor. Freakin donkeys.
2. My new desktop computer has Windows Vista...
3. Right now I have no car, so I'm getting my friends to haul me around. I take the Trolley to school so that's not really a problem, but having no car really limits my freedom to when my friends can pick me up which kinda sucks.
4. The whole "Socal" attitude really blowz ass. My roommate has a bad case of it, where he thinks the world should be revolving around him. I've met some really nice people down here, but I really don't enjoy how some of them think that putting down other people is a cool thing to do. I think it's retarded, spread the love, and stop acting like a stuck up bitch who thinks you're the only one in the world with problems. And for Christ's sake SMILE!
5. I'm running bad. On a sick -$12,000 downswing at 2/4 & 1/2 the past month. Can't seem to do anything right. It's really funny. It started with me tilting hardcore vs asdf2000 heads-up thinking he was a fish, I guess I was wrong. Then when PokerStars opened heads-up tables I thought it was going to be awesome, nope wrong again! -$3600 of my 12k downswing comes from 1/2 heads-up. LOL... Obviously I was being a little sloppy after Vegas, (hey, playing with complete retards for a month straight can make you sloppy!) But now I'm back on track with my game and still can't get things to work for me. I need to find God or something...
6. I got homework, and a lot of reading to do. Sick life
Overall I love it though. If anyone is down here in San Diego and would like to meet me, give me a PM with some contact info. I'm always down to meet any new LPer's. Ok I will be updating this more often, and hopefully with pictures.

Achieving Goals
NeillyJQ, Sep 04 2007
The last two days have been great days for me.
First check this out;
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/265231
And to whats up;
Yesterday I reached supernova, which I've been trying to do for the last few months.
Today I reached $5.5k, which allows me to cash out $5k via bank wire transfer (ty pokerstars support), and leave myself $500 + 650 bonus I'll clear in just a few thousand more FPP's.
Its been a mission since I started playing again to save enough to move back to Taiwan, to teach english part-time and play poker part-time from home. Now I can make this dream a reality, and start preparing to leave soon.
Its been a really tough grind over the last month, with tons of up and downs, and with LP's help I prevailed. WooHoo!
So, starting tomorrow, I'm going to cash out the vast majority of my bankroll for my airplane ticket, visa, and apartment in Taiwan.
I'll go back down to NL50 and grind back up the limits from there, which will be nice.
In the last week, I've grown 10 fold as a pla<x>yer and have learned the importance of strong preflop play, as well as putting my oponents to tests. But most of all, I started playing the calmest, most patient poker of my life.
So it looks like this is my last month in the good ol USA for a long while, I'll make sure I enjoy it to the fullest.
I learned a ton playing the 6max NL100 - NL200 games as well, which has helped me drastically when I went over to full-ring, handling the aggressive pla<x>yers and isolating / taking pots from weak PF raisers.
Heres my stats from tonight; (my last session on NL200 for probably 2-5 weeks)
During current Hold'em session you were dealt 1111 hands and saw flop:
- 71 out of 144 times while in big blind (49%)
- 18 out of 138 times while in small blind (13%)
- 60 out of 829 times in other positions (7%)
- a total of 149 out of 1111 (13%)
Pots won at showdown - 24 of 32 (75%)
Pots won without showdown - 87
And to all you naysayers out there that were saying "YOUR GONNA GO BROKE", the whole time I would never have let my bankroll go below $3,000, I was making an extreme concious effort to not go wrong where I did in the past.
Now its all about dominating, and NL200 is where my comfort zone was at, which is why thats where I played.
I'm gonna take the rest of the night off,
GL everyone,
Ryan (DReaMe) *still SuperNoVa!
NL100 naw, NL200
NeillyJQ, Sep 04 2007
I started the day off at NL100 and was running extremely bad "WHAT THE FUCK" bad, lol.
After winning back alot of my loses, I was looking at the NL200 tables and saw most of the tables were full of half-stacked donks.
I pondered on playing with the NL100 pla<x>yers grinding for there rent money, or playing with NL200 half-stacked donks and took the better choice.
During this decision, I told myself if I drop below $3k I'll move down to NL50 6max during the day and NL100 at night.
The session started out with me dropping to $2950 and a decision. I decided to play a little longer, and if I lost anymore I would drop down immediately. Luckily for me, the tables stopped abusing me and I finally swung up.
This was a great day for me, I learned how to play the dimension at these tables very well, and crushed on multiple tables. I finished the day with a $1,308 stack on one table, and multiple $400 stacks on others.
I'm going to continue to play NL200 6max, with great table selection and try to avoid as many regs as possible.
Heres my stats from today;
During current Hold'em session you were dealt 2619 hands and saw flop:
- 169 out of 499 times while in big blind (33%)
- 64 out of 499 times while in small blind (12%)
- 155 out of 1621 times in other positions (9%)
- a total of 388 out of 2619 (14%)
Pots won at showdown - 62 of 102 (60%)
Pots won without showdown - 408
and a few nice pots;
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/265021
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/264988
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/264953
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/264943
I'm having as much fun playing now as when I just started out, and look forward to learning to beat the NL100/NL200 6max games everyday.
Time for a break,
GL everyone,
Ryan (DReaMe) *SuperNoVa
What the FUCK
NeillyJQ, Sep 04 2007
So I open the tables up today and lose 5 buy-ins in 15 minutes at NL100.
This is so fucking retarded, I'm playing great and getting coldecked every single fucking hand.
JESUS

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/264872
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/264866
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/264859
all in the matter of 20 fucking minutes...
I'm totally ready for NL100, too bad the deck won't let me play here.
I'm going to play a little more here, if I lose $150 more I'm done at NL100 until I rebuild to $3500 though...this is fucked
SUPERNOVA
NeillyJQ, Sep 04 2007
I reached supernova finally!
After finishing my session earlier, I was practically fiending to get back on NL100. The sessions here are so much fun its ridiculous, the spirit of the game is flowing in me hard now that I'm in such an action packed game.
Heres my stats from the session;
During current Hold'em session you were dealt 1803 hands and saw flop:
- 96 out of 338 times while in big blind (28%)
- 35 out of 338 times while in small blind (10%)
- 111 out of 1127 times in other positions (9%)
- a total of 242 out of 1803 (13%)
Pots won at showdown - 28 of 59 (47%)
Pots won without showdown - 245
It felt so cool to go supernovasayian for the first time, even the hair on my arms is yellow now, lol.
On that note, I'm goin to bed, finally.
GL everyone,
Ryan
