End of July
  Cutsss, Jul 31 2006

Alot of things to say since my last update so first one is that today (sunday) I played the Party Million and Pokerstars Monthly, once again lost on a sick beat and on a coinflip... I'm pretty disappointed with my mtt results so far, I used to play them without a real focus but these last I was playing really well, I mean, I was doing good moves.. I told a friend of mine my feeling and I think he's right, I'm not ready for big buyins mtt's, it's not the money but there is too much variance for my roll and it could really slow down my cashgame progression so my 1st goal is to stop playing mtt's for august and (maybe) september. So yeah it also includes that I won't try to qualify for the EPT events. Anyway I feel good with it, I just think my shot at a big winning starting from subsatellites is ridiculous so i'm not going to play and pray, plus I have never played live and I don't want to learn in a 10k buyin mtt...
This weekend I went with my girlfriend and some friends in Barcelona for the beach, clubs, and all the stuff... And I know there is a casino there with PL Holdem cashgames starting at 3pm.. I'm really interested in it, if anyone knows the stakes played there and how is the game, please contact me at cutsss@gmail.com. I'm really going to try live cashgames, mainly at Barcelona, Peralada, and at the Aviation in Paris.
Upcoming month is going to be really busy with holidays and party so I have no idea on how many time I'll be able to play but I'll try to play alot when I'll be at home. Goal is about 40k hands with a better winrate than in July, and hopefully i'll jump in the 3/6 games soon. Oh, and I'm only playing sh for a while.

What about july results then, maybe you remember I started the month with a crazy run, it stopped on 18th with a -1800 day followed by 6 loosing days (I was playing 3k hands on average a day lol) there was nothing wrong with me, no real tilt except that i was really tired, maybe i was also making mistakes because of my switch to shorthanded, anyway now it seems to work fine again as I made back in cashgames what I lost in cashgames (thanks tourneys for making the downswing horrible). No detailled results but it looks like that:
- cashgames:
+8,000 (30k hands)
- mtts:
-2,000
- sngs: none
- rb & bonuses:
+1600

overall
+7600. average month for a 2/4 regular I guess...

Oh I also want to say that I'm not like some players sharing on their blogs their sick goals for end of the year because I think some of them (no offense) dont really know the real variance that is in the game (I never experienced a real downswing too but I know it can happen).. I know i'm not going to win money like that every month so my goal is to keep making around 5k per month for a while and it will be fine. But I'll eventually end the year like them with 665k and be happy to be wrong. =)

January - April
  Cutsss, Jun 01 2006

Ok, no updates in a while so here we go..

Played alot of cashgames (~100k hands) between 25nl and 200nl, full ring & shorthanded. I think I improved and build a decent bankroll.
Played some sit and go's 16$ 27$ 55$ 60$ on pokerstars, 22$ 33$ 55$ on Fortune poker.. I did ok (actually I won money) but I need to improve if I want to be a long term winner at buyins above 55$, so I'll stick to cashgames for the moment.
About tourneys, well as usual I played alot, won nearly nothing but you can check
my pokerdb for that (Cutsss). I don't think I'm playing very well, just tight enough for low buyins, I prefer deepstacks and rebuy format but I don't think i'm going to play more because variance is sick and I'm not good enough.

I received a bunch of books:
- Theory of poker, worth reading
- Super System 2, only checked some pages, I think it's a must read for every cashgame player
- The Making of a poker player by matt Matros, journey of rising pro poker player, interesting only about bankroll management, picking up games, gambling, tilt etc.. no real analysis inside
- Harrington on Holdem I & II, I read the first chapters, that was very interesting but I'm too lazy to read two volumes... maybe one day when I will try to improve sng & mtt play I'll read both.
- Phil Gordon's little green book, not yet opened.

Nothing else to say, i'm just learning and trying to build a bankroll.

May - record month
  Cutsss, Jun 01 2006

I started the month playing 100nl after an horrible run in april, not played much because of exams ending the 17th, just enough to be rolled again for 200nl. Then I played 6 days hardcore, first two were bad but after that I ran very well and made around 4k at 200nl. Moved up to 400nl and won some money too. Here are the overall month results..

  • cashgames, (100nl-400nl fr & sh) 30,000 hands, +$5331.64
  • tourneys, -$1337
  • sngs, (27$-60$)216 played, +$1142.90
overall month: +$5137.54

Goals for June:
- More cashgames, try to figure my winrate at 400nl over 50k hands (even if 50k is not representative).
- Less mtt's, maybe only french ladder & weekly.
- No goals about sng's i'll see..

Oh, and I received my first Samsung 204B LCD screen from pokerstars fpp store, i'm waiting for the second, it's all good.

June
  Cutsss, Jun 30 2006

What can I say about june? well that was a pretty good month, as you will see I won money, also I learned and nearly achieved my goal (50k hands at 400nl, I played 45k). The main reason why I didn't played more than 45k hands at 400nl is not time, I had to deal with a 15k hands downswing at 400nl, my roll wasn't safe, I was tilting and loosing confidence so I had to move down for a bit. There is another reason, usually I play two session a day, one between 2pm and 5pm and another after 9pm.. (french hours) and there are never more than 4 tables of 400nl running on stars for my first session! So I tried a bit partypoker & FullTilt and I temporary moved some money to FullTilt to be able to play at least 6 tables of 400nl... I think I shoud consider moving to partypoker too... I need to think about it. Games at FullTilt are soft, not played much but I saw mostly retarded shortstacks and tight-weaks players, the soft is ok, you can get 27% rakeback, I don't like backgrounds and colors but well, maybe I need to get used.
Okay now let's go for the monthly results, there won't be sngs stats because I played zero lol

  • tournaments: -$622.91
as usual sick results in mtt,
22 played, cashed in three for ridiculous profits i'm not going to share. lol.

  • cashgames: +$7559.75

A good thing is that the negative numbers come from tilty sessions.. as you can see my winrate is not that good at 400nl, but there is a big downswing in it and the first days at a stake are always bad so I expect this winrate will be way higher at the end of the month.
My winrate is
$54.50 per hour, that's pretty bad, I want it to be higher than 80$/h in the future..

So JUNE:
+$6936.84

Another record, not satified tho, I'll come tommorow or sunday with goals for summer.. I have some ideas like a winrate, or a money goal... I'll think about it!

For now, I'm late for a party so see you tommorow !

First months...
  Cutsss, Dec 31 2005

I started computer games with counterstrike, I tryed to become good at it and it worked, after years of hardcore training, I reached a top national level. I realized then than this game was a waste of time and needed too much dedication for what it gives back. I stopped competitive gaming in summer 2004. Septermber'04-June'05 was a year off gaming, I was with my girlfriend, playing for fun sometimes but not trying to become good at something. During summer 2005 I watched alot my father playing poker online on pokerstars and partypoker, and remember I heard on lan events people talking about ElkY, this french former starcraft star, now playing poker online and winning alot. I quickly found ElkY blog and some interviews... then I searched about Rekrul and found teamliquid.net, a broodwar forum with alot of poker topics, I read a bit, checked some sites and decided to try this in september when I'll be back from holidays..

  • September '05

As my father didn't want me to deposit I had to find some money to try poker. Finally a friend sent me $5 on pokerstars and I tryed penny tables. I quckly made it over $50, then lost it all tilting/overplaying hands. I asked my friend for some bucks, he gave me $3. I played only 5NL then 10NL. I experienced swings between 200 and 50, gambling alot... September was more about trying than really playing the game.

  • October '05

I decided to play a good game, with a proper bankroll, tight agressive, using pot odds and implied odds, trying to focus and think about the game... It worked. I Made $100 at 5NL (10,000 hands), 150 at 10NL(6000 hands).. Everything was going well and I forgot poker includes a luck factor. I don't remember what was my bankroll during this session but It was around $250, I was playing four 25NL tables and one 50NL when I picked up QQ on the 50NL table, I raised, get called, the flop was Qh4s7h. Again I betted and the guy flat called, I thought about a flushdraw. The turn card is the 4h giving me the nut full and a flush risk, I decided to check. He betted I called. I don't remember the river card but he pushed, I called and he showed me quads. The hour after that beat was horrible, I lost nearly my entire bankroll tilting. I was so pissed to loose what was so long to win that I took a break, only playing sometimes to have fun.

  • November '05

November was the same as October but this time I didn't try to move up too fast. I was quckly back at 10NL, I began to play 6 tables, I quickly learned to beat this stake and move up to 25NL with a $375 bankroll. An important thing newcomers must know, it's that each next stake is tighter than the previous. I learned it blasting $150 at 25NL which is huge. My main error was to play too many hands, while I was bad running. I had so many flop decisions to make that I cannot handle it without reads and routine... But I lucked and won a $215 seat for the pokerstars weekly on a $10R mtt. I unregistered, and sold the T$ to a friend for $215. I was back at 25NL.

I played an ultratight basic game, which I slightly improved by mixing up and using reads. I was back at $400 before december.

  • December '05

I finish the year at 50NL, I came second in a $5.50 freezeout tourney (1400+ entrants) to cash more than 800$. I have over $2,000 bankroll right now, and I plan to play alot after my exams (which end january 17th). I want to improve alot my tournament play aswell my cash game. I ordered some books that I'll receive soon
