I started computer games with counterstrike, I tryed to become good at it and it worked, after years of hardcore training, I reached a top national level. I realized then than this game was a waste of time and needed too much dedication for what it gives back. I stopped competitive gaming in summer 2004. Septermber'04-June'05 was a year off gaming, I was with my girlfriend, playing for fun sometimes but not trying to become good at something. During summer 2005 I watched alot my father playing poker online on pokerstars and partypoker, and remember I heard on lan events people talking about ElkY, this french former starcraft star, now playing poker online and winning alot. I quickly found ElkY blog and some interviews... then I searched about Rekrul and found teamliquid.net, a broodwar forum with alot of poker topics, I read a bit, checked some sites and decided to try this in september when I'll be back from holidays..

September '05

As my father didn't want me to deposit I had to find some money to try poker. Finally a friend sent me $5 on pokerstars and I tryed penny tables. I quckly made it over $50, then lost it all tilting/overplaying hands. I asked my friend for some bucks, he gave me $3. I played only 5NL then 10NL. I experienced swings between 200 and 50, gambling alot... September was more about trying than really playing the game.

October '05

I decided to play a good game, with a proper bankroll, tight agressive, using pot odds and implied odds, trying to focus and think about the game... It worked. I Made $100 at 5NL (10,000 hands), 150 at 10NL(6000 hands).. Everything was going well and I forgot poker includes a luck factor. I don't remember what was my bankroll during this session but It was around $250, I was playing four 25NL tables and one 50NL when I picked up QQ on the 50NL table, I raised, get called, the flop was Qh4s7h. Again I betted and the guy flat called, I thought about a flushdraw. The turn card is the 4h giving me the nut full and a flush risk, I decided to check. He betted I called. I don't remember the river card but he pushed, I called and he showed me quads. The hour after that beat was horrible, I lost nearly my entire bankroll tilting. I was so pissed to loose what was so long to win that I took a break, only playing sometimes to have fun.

November '05

November was the same as October but this time I didn't try to move up too fast. I was quckly back at 10NL, I began to play 6 tables, I quickly learned to beat this stake and move up to 25NL with a $375 bankroll. An important thing newcomers must know, it's that each next stake is tighter than the previous. I learned it blasting $150 at 25NL which is huge. My main error was to play too many hands, while I was bad running. I had so many flop decisions to make that I cannot handle it without reads and routine... But I lucked and won a $215 seat for the pokerstars weekly on a $10R mtt. I unregistered, and sold the T$ to a friend for $215. I was back at 25NL.

I played an ultratight basic game, which I slightly improved by mixing up and using reads. I was back at $400 before december.

December '05

I finish the year at 50NL, I came second in a $5.50 freezeout tourney (1400+ entrants) to cash more than 800$. I have over $2,000 bankroll right now, and I plan to play alot after my exams (which end january 17th). I want to improve alot my tournament play aswell my cash game. I ordered some books that I'll receive soon
