cheap laptop?

looking for some advice on what to get for a laptop, preferably something under $1k. it's mostly for school, i won't need it for gaming or anything. just something that's easy to carry around, has a good/functional keyboard, and won't be annoyingly slow with a few tabs open. i was thinking one of the 13" ultrabooks, macbook is a bit more than i want to spend though.
i've read some reviews on a couple sites but still feel like a fish, so any suggestions are appreciated.

today some bags of spicy pork rinds caught my eye. i checked the back of one of the bags to look at the nutrition info and it said 10g protein per serving, 6 servings per bag. so i'm like "health food, easy game" and buy like 6 bags.
when i get home however i realize right next to the protein listing there's some smaller text that says "not a significant source of protein". wtf does this mean, it has protein but it doesn't? anyone who is knowledgeable about nutrition and such tell me what sort of tomfoolery is going on here?

vegas food?

going to be in vegas for a few days, looking for food recommendations. mostly looking for places that are like <$30/person but if you feel strongly about some place that's a little over that go ahead and tell me. i like pretty much all kinds of food.
right now all i know is that i'm going to Bouchon just to try the chicken and waffles everyone raves about. i'm sure i'll go to chinatown at some point so any suggestions for there would be great. i've heard lots of great things about lotus of siam but also some mixed reviews and i think it's a bit out of the way?
anyway, appreciate any suggestions!
the elusive witty comeback

after a random incident at the grocery store i have decided that i wish to acquire the ability to make witty comebacks. any info that could make the learning process quicker and easier is appreciated.
i just got back from the grocery store to buy some milk, and since it's like 2am here the place was basically empty (just 1 register open), there was a customer ahead of me in line but i think she was the only other customer in the store, also maybe 6-7 guys stocking shelves in the aisles.
anyways, i was in line waiting for this girl in front of me to figure out how to scan her credit card or whatever. the cashier was a guy probably around my age (early-mid 20's) with long red hair and vampire-white skin and overall kind of dirty appearance. i put my milk and a couple protein bars on the belt, and in a random outburst of sociability he asked, "Did anyone say you could buy that [implied smiley face]?"
i did not expect to be interrogated in the grocery store so i was pretty much taken off-guard and really didn't know what to say. i paused for like 4-5 seconds (which felt like a minute) shifting around uncomfortably then looked at him and said "no".
now it was his turn for an awkward pause, and eventually he said "it's no fun if you don't have a witty comeback". i realized that he was right, and that it would in fact have been a more enjoyable moment if i had had a witty comeback. but unfortunately this is a skill i have yet to acquire, although that will change soon.

hi guys,
i'm getting towards the end of season 2 of Burn Notice right now and i have a question:
there's a scene where the hero michael westin is in a car chase shootout and he says that when you're in a firefight on the road that you can fire shots at the pavement underneath the car and they will ricochet up through the under-carriage thru the floorboard of the car (this is assuming the other car is trailing behind you), is this accurate?

well after not playing poker in forever i've been messing around on hero for the past few weeks with some $ i forgot i had on there from their original freerol. anyway pretty much running like the sun lol.
i requested a cashout but the max they allow is $2.5k (wtf) and it takes like a month, so i want to do another $2-3k. i assume the only option i have is to trade someone for paypal or something? i don't even know how p2p transfers on hero work, but i got the impression that the CEO dude can make it happen.
and if that is my best option, anyone need hero money?  need to be pretty reputable if i'm going to send first obv. if you're comfortable sending me first i can maybe get a couple HS regs to vouch for me, but i'd have to check with them before putting words in their mouth.

my computer isn't playing videos anymore wtf ? i dont get errors or anything just the area that the video would play in stays blank. any experts here know what to do about this?
