Swap space ("page file" in windows) is definitely still useful nowadays. Unused memory should be paged out to make space for intensively used memory.
How do you measure that you have no slowdowns? Microsoft's NTFS filesystem is notorious for its fragmentation, and the fuller you put the drive the worse it will perform. This does not necessarily mean that your computer slows down to a crawl, but it can be a contributing factor.
Of course there is no hardware reason for the slowdown and many Linux filesystems perform fine even with a full drive. |
