Its sort of true that people think you need to drink a protein shake or something everytime u work out: "I must optimise with high protein and moderate carbohydrates with minimal fat to increase my lean muscle gain." 01101001001000000110011001110101011000110110101101101001011011100110011100100000011100110111010101100011011010110010000001100001011101000010000001101100011010010110011001100101001000000110110001101101011001100110000101101111 |

Well it is true that you cannot build additional muscle w/o protein (and carbs for that matter). You don't necessarily have to consume it in the powder form, but this is a relatively easily digested forms (whey protein isolate vs soy protein for instance). Consuming it in a liquid form skips mastication, thus allowing your body to begin repairing torn muscle fibers more quickly without needing to go into a catabolic state as much. Your ideal window after a lifting session is approximately 15 minutes, although the sooner the better. Yes, you could get this protein rapidly by drinking a glass of milk, but that's only about 8 grams. To get the amount of protein that you get from one scoop of whey, you'd have to drink 3 glasses of milk. In addition to that you'll need carbs. The generally accepted ratio is 3-4:1 carbs to protein. But yes, it can be done without consuming a protein powder. Just my 2c.
And no, you won't get swoll eating salad |

Ya also milk is also inappropriate because the fat content increases digestive time. Sometimes i cook ribeye steaks, wrap it and let it rest while i work out then eat it afterwards. Its still a bit fatty but i'd rather not consume protein powder at least atm.. i find it aggrivates my gallbladder more than a meal containing 120 grams of fat does. Although the last time i had any was 3+ months ago and i've done a flush since then as well as eaten a lot of fat with no problem. And thats a good quality protein powder i was taking. Theres a lot of contaminants in these protein powders incase u didn't know that you need to be very wary of and research to make sure you've got a quality brand.
But yeah, I'm not trying to get big. I'm just excercising to stay fit and raise my metabolism. |

If you're eating organic corn its healthy afaik. The problems start to happen when you feed corn to animals that aren't supposed to eat it. The problem with feeding corn to cows is that their bodies aren't designed to handle corn. The cows get all sorts of problems because of it but it's faster and thats why food corporations do it. The cows get stomach issues among other problems and develop more dangerous strains of e.coli that isn't really present in healthy cows that were raised on grass at a normal rate. It's incredibly cheap to produce corn in the US and it's what is fed to pretty much all mass raised feedlot style cows. This is pretty much all meat in McDonalds/fast food or cheap restaurants and is why its possible to get a burger for cheaper than a head of broccoli. Also, a lot or all of non organic corn is genetically modified or has pesticides on it. If you're happy eating non-organic corn you're basically saying "Sure, this is fine with me." instead of supporting the organic farmer who's probably really in need of your support..
