hi guys
first let me introduce myself for those who dont know me. my name is Arthur, I just turned 20 and I live in Brasilia, capital of Brazil, away from my parents that live in antoher city. I live by myself since june 2008 working for the brazillian government at the morning. the payment is great, I can afford a very nice life, nice car, nice friends and stuff. to get that job I had to be aproved on a test where there was over 1k ppl/job applying, so I'm really the hard-working kinda guy. I started grinding online poker in august/2009 and I'm currently playing NL25/NL50. poker has always been good and thats not why I'm blogging this.
other than money, my life has never been very good. I seem to atract the wrong girls all the time, its just like a very sick bad run. last months my life has been shitty and everything seems to be going the wrong way. due the fucking hard depression I'm suffering I'm gonna start psycho-terapy tuesday 26, gonna get a license from work cause its kinda impossible to work with my current state of mind. I'm starting the treatment with a antidrepression medicine called Amitriptyline: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amitriptyline . the treatment is supposed to last 3 months. wish me luck!
sorry if the english is not the best

Dude, I've walked the same road a few years ago, in fact I was just around your age.I won't comment it in public, but I can give you an advice - speak to 1 or 2 more doctors, cause Zoloft and Cipralex are way better than yours(personal opinion). And there's some other stuff you could probably get in the beggining just to get in shape for life, work, etc. etc... |

I mean your life doesn't sound as great as you describe it if you feel depressed! you can travel really cheap for next to nothing and enjoy the good life |

Sometimes it's not a psyhological condition, but lack of serotonin in the brain cells. So it's hard to define what exactly causes the problem. And IT IS MEDICAL CONDITION, so it's not pathetic, you must take some medicines at the begining, and yes- travelling and everything that makes you happy should be a must. |

Oh, attachment leads to suffering, which you can easily do if you wreck an expensive car, lose a gf/lover, which will cause a lot of pain!!
tutz, check your pm, I sent one xD |

tutz,
Yur still a young puppy, I believe mind over matter and if you have in your mind that you will be depressed or easily let down no matter what it is then you will definitely become " DEPRESSED ". I agree with the attachment comment and at 20 and making a good living you should be fucking and leaving these chicks not wanting a GF just to have someone. Do what makes you happy fuck the money and fuck what anyone says that you don't agree with, you have the right to disagree and do as you please.
One last thing, I don't think many Lpers ware of the reality of your post. For anyone to write this post and express what is truly holding them back from enjoying life "it must be serious ".
I wish you best and good luck with the recovery.

sometimes you do have a choice, it depends on the type of depression
i would never trust doctors though, and i'd do my own research. |

i went to lenscrafters when I was 16. The doctor gave me an eye test and 10 mins later gave me a prescription. I told my mom that I'd simply never wear the glasses because I don't have any problems with my vision (i know I never wear watches so it would make sense that i simply would never wear glasses either)
I'm 25 now and I still have never had problems with my eyes even though I often spend 60 hours a week looking at a computer screen.
Doctors are notorious for the same behaviour. They might not consciously do it to make profit but after a few years they might adapt into it through stronger and stronger rationalization favouring over medication instead of under medication and enter a groove. Often if i feel like i am suffering from something, I will read up on it a lot before going to see someone. Doctors are surprised of my knowledge and self diagnosis abilities. I'm not bragging, I'm just showing how rare it is for people to do their own research... usually no one questions the doctors. Sometimes doctors are happy, sometimes they feel as though ur challenging their authority by talking about the intricacies and wanting to be sure of the diagnosis/treatment. One thing I have found out, is doctors really don't know as much as we think. There are countless diseases out there and if you think you have something that's not ridiculously common, a few hours reading up on it will educate you possibly more on that specific condition than the doctor.... oh and nurses know absolutely shit.
I haven't read much on clinical depression but you should read how people describe it. What thoughts do u have while in depression? How constant is the depression? What times of day or during what activities do you not feel depressed or forget about the depression. A lot of questions like this will help you determine if you have clinical depression which is indeed not a choice or if your depression stems out of a lack of satisfaction with your life. I'm not sure but isn't it unlikely to not have experienced clinical depression at a younger age? Not sure about that?... but you do seem to equate your recent depression with life changes which suggests that it's not the type of depression which should be medicated. I'm not going to do your homework for you but if you don't put in 20 hours of reading on wikipedia and webMD and depression forum sites and such then ... well idk what to say... you'd be really foolish and masochistic or lazy/afraid not too |

i've yet too see a doctor that was insulted/irritated by me attempting to self diagnosis myself though, maybe it's the manner you present your knowledge? |

well obv i respect the doctors opinion more than my own... but things need to add up fully, the story needs to make sense.
So like 1 time, i was saying well what about x y and z... but if that's true what about this? Why couldn't it also be this .... and so on
he wasn't pissed off but he was impatient and annoyed that i simply didn't take his word straight up, doctors are overworked and have busy schedules generally |

GL with everything man.
I had my bouts with issues as recently as last year, and while I will never truly know 'your' pains, what I do know is that when you're able to finally resolve the problem, life is going to look completely different. |

So there was a frat party farting competition and the prized fart competitor would get trained by a farting specialist coach. Beans brocolli exercises. Coach lit a match behind the prized farters butt. Farter let one rip. Like a flame thrower set the coach on fire. Coach burned to death. Death by fart. |
