Let's say my life expectancy is 85. I die when shit starts to get real harry. I am still suffering through capitalism for 50 years though. I said there is an impulse to say fuck it and enjoy life but that's not really possible. But rich boomers actually can and do indulge in that impulse in large numbers. "Fuck it, that's not real (I'll be dead anyway)." All they care about is their Medicare, Social Security, and investment positions. There's no incentive to even look at the science. Just like there is no incentive to take a look at capitalism. The science doesn't serve their interests just as the truths about capitalism doesn't serve their interests. So, the science becomes fake news even in the eyes of people with science degrees. Being in business skews a lot.

I'd imagine you are in the same boat Santafairy? Coveting your Speedmaster or Daytona or whatever watch. I was once there in poker. A smart watch was the symbol that you were a success and not some "loser living in someone's basement grinding micro stakes." I chose to prove that by buying expensive vodka and champagne in fake ass clubs. I remember talking to one particular woman and she was questioning my success at poker and I was just like "I'm here nigga. I'm here!" Meaning I am here in Vegas with a VIP table. Which actually doesn't mean that much. In those days if I was unhappy and had $20,000 sitting around it was time to travel somewhere. Maybe I can run away from myself. The novelty was stupendous but ultimately I always had to bring myself along. This is not to say I didn't enjoy my time traveling or partying. Sometimes I did, sometimes I didn't. At the end of the day it was more about the people I met. Whether that's living in downtown Buenos Aires or out in the farms on Gozo Island, Malta. Of course, later when I had a corporate job and didn't have the freedom to travel I would spend my disposable income on things like the W Hotel in downtown Chicago when my friend's couch was offered or I would buy the infamous Le Corbusier lamp that still sits in my brother's basement. I would wear tailored suits to bourgeois events. Again, the only thing that mattered was the people. I can't outrun the pain by buying a lamp or a tailored suit even if these things illicit a certain feeling. Wearing a nice tailored suit or tux can make a man feel bulletproof until it doesn't. I'm happy now in sweatpants. You know you can make a good batch of rice and beans that serves about 4 for less than $20? Probably, only poor people know that bananas cost like $1 for 4-5 of them. I fear that's because they brutally exploit the workers (which they do). The capitalists make everything so hazy though. I try to minimize consumption as much as possible but it seems like I can never win. I buy Tom's toothpaste that is owned by Colgate. When that runs out I use the Colgate my dentist gives me at appointments. There is no escaping capitalism. Or is there?

If I go the NGO route I'm not escaping capitalism. That's been a rough one for me too. Everything is like Administrative Assistant or Program Director which I don't know if I am qualified for anything anywhere at this point. It feels bad man.

It's got me thinking I belong in some commune somewhere or just out in the middle of a forest. But a current in my life is that it's always been about the people so I just have to continue going to these recovery meetings and making connections with people. It's the only thing I know at this point.

I could go to Food Not Bombs this Sunday. Meet some leftists in this city and help some people get a meal.

I found out my best friend in this city is back doing drugs. Shows how healthy I was doing before locking in some more meetings and connections. He moved to a new place, we stopped communicating and then he's doing drugs again. I'm not saying that is the reason I am just saying guys stop communicating and connecting with people and they are back on the drugs pretty quick.

I think I have found a handful of meetings now that I feel relatively good about. Now, it's just about being consistent. I guess I could also seek out socialist and communists groups, leftist groups, anarchist groups and do the same.

I've spent some time with good people the last couple days... I think I was teetering on depression but hanging out with some people brought me out of that. I'm more depressed about the state of neoliberal capitalism in 2020 than 2070 because I'm currently living through it and it kind of sucks. I don't think i'm particularly optimistic or pessimistic about the future but the probable outcomes don't look great overall. If I continue to be consistent in being social, find a good job, meet a woman my life probably doesn't suck as much. Those are just 3 things. 3 things that are not impossible or shouldn't even really be too difficult.

I realize being depressed doesn't "solve any problems" but besides some behavioral factors I can't really help whether I'm depressed or not. Simply put not sleeping too much, being with people, and being in nature are probably the simplest 3 to keep me above water but it can get to a certain point where I don't feel like doing any of those things. I have to force myself to do them.

Typically, Ralph Lauren Denim and Red Wing boots. But, actually, either worked in either setting. So that's really who I am arguing against: Henry17. You see the Henry17 clone is off the table. The question is that the lacked? At one point I thought that to be true. Or, someone like Drake. Does he really have it all? I mean I have so close to zero it might as well be zero chance to position myself in a position that Drake has but what are his margins of peace, joy, love, grace, et al? I am still just trying to figure it all out for myself. How to maximize my margins of peace, joy, love, grace, et al.

A watch is an easy way to signal that. We still live in a society that shit like that matters. Well, I am attempting to be in social spheres where that shit doesn't matter. People on a poker forum should know better than to use absolutes, e.g. "knowing this shows you care about that", which is why I qualified my comment with 'probably' and 'some correlation'.

To your point though, there's a difference between recognizing words and inserting them into a conversation ad hoc (doing the latter in this case obviously makes it significantly more likely someone cares/has cared about fashion stuff imo).

Most of his advice was actually really simple. That was just one piece. It's pretty straightforward buy the most expensive pants and shirts and belts and shoes that you can afford. If you can't afford designer than figure out how to improve your position in life. A smartly dressed man in nice dress pants, dress shirt, and shoes is an archetype that a large number of women find attractive. It also has the benefit of being appropriately dressed for any venue change.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. It actually works out pretty well and reasoning is sound. It's not some white knight thing it's based in fairness. My haircut costs me $25. Most women spend upwards of $200 on a hair appointment. That right there is going to make it fair to pay for dinner or drinks.

It's probably relatively well known on here that I've fucked around with prostitutes in my past but that idea repulses me today. I had a friend recently who would always bring up going to the strip club and getting a blow job and that is such a toxic environment and no where for me to be. If I was drinking and doing drugs I could see myself back there in a second though. I don't know where my malady takes me these days. Probably, non-dairy ice cream city but I've been doing pretty well with just getting in a daily bread and not stress overeating. That's kind of where I am flexin' these days. 3.) Figure out if you are actually any good at sex. Most guys are not. Fix that.

4.) Don't become all gaga / teenager in love over girls. This should come naturally from developing the proper lifestyle. There are plenty of hot girls but a guy who has excelled at life is considerably less common. This is like anything else -- the person who has scarcity on their side has the bargaining power. This doesn't mean be disrespectful or an ass to girls just that you shouldn't get all fixated on girls you hardly know. It is like graduating top of your class from Yale -- you shouldn't be belligerent to recruiters but at the same time you know they need you more than you need them.

I left #4 for last because it segues into my piece on confidence. Everyone knows that confidence is important. The idea that anyone can become confident by reading a book or studying anything is retarded. Confidence is the result of past achievement and who you are. If you do the lifestyle stuff properly then confidence will just be a natural byproduct of being better."

It's hard to see it any other way except for that dating is competition. I think Henry17's post above is pretty spot on. It certainly helped me at the time. I can never get that back though. I can never be a young professional again in this life. Nor do I want that. I have to change the demographic. Bad ass leftist chicks. When I say baaadddd leftist chick I'm not totally considering looks. Je ne sais quoi. Man, I don't know. I'm just not ready for sleep yet. In my last therapist appointment she said I am on the edge so close to all these things she just wants to effin kick me off the edge of the cliff if she could. I think with Tinder just no fucks have to be given. It's a fucking cesspool but I have a new strategy of just not giving a fuck about anything. I matched with a "Leftist" tonight. But, I matched with so many other women that who cares right? But, this is the cycle of Tinder. Plenty of matches not many dates. Even though I self-sabotage myself. I have a Xanax prescription for going on dates. I'm fucked up. My therapist did say I exude love. She wanted to say something more scientific but that's how she framed it. That's actually a major compliment. That's really one of my core goals.

Who am I kidding I would totally date Grimes. She would actually be more of a leftist and not this abomination that she has become. And yeah of course it helps being Elon Musk in the current state of dating in the Western world.

I don't know if I have any ideas. I need to apply to jobs, go on dates, hang out with friends. My therapist says I need to chase these things. I don't know if it's ever good to chase but maybe it is in some cases. She at least acknowledged that it needs to be an action verb.

In fact, I want to try a Xanax right now. I was prescribed to take one to see how I respond. Although, I hope to be sleeping soon so that seems like kind of a waste. I read on the internet that it takes about an hour to kick in and lasts about 5 hours. That is perfect for a date. I don't want to be some dizzy, drowsy, uncoordinated goober though. Does anyone on here have experience with Xanax?

I do go outside. It's not like I can hang out in bars consuming until parties are lubricated and we go on "Next" type dating show situations. All I really have is AA meetings. There are women I'm kind of keeping tabs on and playing very slow tit for tat games. For me I think the play has to be very conservative because AA is where I eat and I don't want to shit there. I kind of like my rotation of meetings and don't want to put that at risk. Not that I'm going to do anything to jeopardize that but having a bad date with someone and then having to see them twice a week is kind of awkward. I suppose we can be adults and carry on I have always just been really conservative with women at work and women in AA. I don't get out much besides that so that's where the online dating comes in.

I don't go outside much besides AA. I'm not going to go to a park and start "day gaming." I'm not going to "day game" anywhere. I'm likely going to a show this Monday but I will be there for the music and with my friends. I'll be drinking a cranberry and club soda or a CBD water. If a drunk woman starts flirting with me I will flirt back but it's a different kind of vibe to being out in a place to pick up or meet women high or drunk (even if you are there with friends).

Where do you suggest that I go?

Online dating is suboptimal but at my age and my lack of drinking it seems to be a necessary evil.

I took a Xanax tonight. My Doctor told me to try one in a controlled environment. I don't really feel any different. Many people in my life who are honest tell me that I am stagnant and I have to start facing my fears and going through them. So, trying some Xanax was one of them. I have to trial it before I go on a date. I don't know if I will have a panic attack on a date I just have a fear of that happening.

So many beautiful women on Tinder but I still have to stick to my guns of not giving a fuck no matter what. It's a crack app. People fly through it when they are bored. Just fly through on a whim. Whimsical fairies all coked up. Such a weird space.

Ya know that I pray for the sick and the suffering every day? Why do I do that? I don't know I just started doing it and have kept with it. I think if Xanax gave me more of a head change and wasn't so fucking terrible it would really be my speed. Maybe I just have to take more. I think smoking weed with a large dose of Xanax would be the best ever. The problem being that Xanax is so very addictive and there is bad withdrawal associated with it. Alcohol would go well with it too if it didn't cause shallow breathing and death. Maybe that's how I'll kill myself. I've had the shallow breathing before from absurd amounts of alcohol where I thought I might die. That actually wasn't fun. I was just like "whelp, I'm too drunk to really do anything right now but pass out.... I hope I don't die." I'm on the cusp of too many potentially great things to want to kill myself. There is hope. Which is why in reality I'll just take Xanax for what my Doctor prescribed it for. Going on dates and we will see what happens. But, man, if shit goes sour I'm finding some real good weed and the right amount of Xanax and getting fucking blazar'd. Well, actually, probably not even then but I might try it out if it were that or killing myself. I just don't want to mess around with any withdrawal scenarios. Those are the worst.
