I got sunburned the other day so I have been taking cold showers. It got me back into hot and cold stress. This thread is for everything hot and cold stress. Saunas, jumping into cold bodies of water. cold showers, contrast showers, you name it. I have just been googling the benefits for each and it seems to be pretty vast. I am all for life hacks. |

They say that taking cold showers increases alertness, relieves depression etc.. of course it does, electrical shocks will also make you more alert and distracted enough that you'll forget your sorrows. I doubt that any of the 'benefits' last. Putting a venomous snake in your office will increase your alertness! who the hell wants to be alert |

Thought this might be a thread on Marshall McLuhan's work (hot vs cold media). Minorly disappointed. I hate "life hack" culture. Voluntary discomfort is cool though. |

What I've found is that this works perfectly if you overslept and need to take a fast shower & wake up, just go for averagely cold water for 5seconds then switch to hot, body gets the needed shock. No point in taking the whole shower w cold water unless you want to get a .. cold :D
Also wtf sunburn, fucking 10 degrees here. Literally went from 35 to 10 in 7 days (non retarded units) |

The sauna appears in so many unconnected cultures its obvious its enjoyable for humans, also the shock from hot to cold, Meso-americans had a thing called Temazcal that is a Sauna and after it they often went into the water, I suppose that change from extreme relaxation to being shocked feels nice |

It isnt, thats why its so interesting, many unconnected cultures did the same thing and we are talking cultures that lived in the stone age, so its no coincidence |

Hate is a strong word. I suppose when I think of life hack culture I think of Dave Asprey which is pretty bad. It is hard for me to be against tips and tricks to make my life easier and more efficient though. Too much of a rat race endeavor? |

I think of Dave Asprey too.

Something like that. People looking for shortcuts don't even begin to have the basics right. |

My comment wasn't meant to be taken super seriously. I'm not disagreeing with you. |
