Disagree about middleweight SOOOO much. It's come so far from a few years ago. Jacare is an insanely dangerous fighter... wtf? I think he is more live vs Weidman than Rockhold only because of the styles.... he's much more dangerous from bottom and has much more power in his hands.
Silva's 'contenders' that he beat in his 'prime' - Bonner (ROFL), Sonnen twice (ROFL), Vitor (legit), Okami (ROFL), Maia (ROFL, not even a top 5 Welterweight), Forest Griffin (ROFL), Laites (ROFL, he's better now and still fringe top 10 in todays middleweight), Cote (ROFLMAO), James Irvin (ROFLMAO LMAO)... you get the point. Most overrated run in UFC history, Silva is nowhere near the GOAT. Jones, GSP, and Aldo are infinitely more impressive in their legacies, and that's ignoring the fact that Silva was juicing.
And Yoel Romero and Tim Kennedy are probably better than anyone Silva ever beat besides Vitor and Hendo (only argument really is Rich Franklin and I'm pretty sure Romero would have clobbered him). The division has gotten so much better. Never mind guys like Belfort, Machida, a better version of Leities (probably juicing), who are all still really good.
Rockhold is much closer to Jacare than he is to Weidman, everyone is trippin so hard because he raped Machida with his top game..... . Rockhold is the 2nd best MW in the world but he's not even as close to Weidman as DC is to Jones. I firmly believe that.
Rockhold's hands are B- at best, he has no power in them, his wrestling is B+/A- but he won't be able to initiate any semblance of a takedown vs Weidman because his hands are no threat and Weidman's wrestling is A++++, so his best chance will be outpointing him at distance with his very good left kicks (not sure how he's gonna land them going backwards though) or landing a sweep or switch in a grappling transition, but even if he does I doubt he can finish the Chris from on top, it would probably just win him a round and make the fight more exciting because his one true edge is probably cardio and that would take a lot of energy out of Weidman (presumably, since he's never had to play from guard). In the clinch Weidman wins, in the pocket Weidman wins big time, on the ground Weidman will most likely be on top so he wins there too. Odds on the fight are probably gonna be really close which excites me greatly.
I agree that after the Top 5 MW drops off big time, but it's much better than LHW, HW, Bantam, and Fly. Best division is lightweight, followed by a tie between featherweight and welterweight. Welterweight is deeper but FW top 5 is infinitely better (Aldo, Mendes, Edgar, and possibly McGregor are all better P4P fighters than anyone in the Welterweight division).
