Russia threatens pre-emptive strike against NATO

MIssle defense fucks up the balance of power. So russians threaten to strike since they don't get included in it.
Mostly just posturing but once this renders their missles useless, they might get desperate. Personally I want this defense treaty up and running already!

About time Russia did something about it

Facts: Iran who has NO long range missile to threat USA. And they are not even close to developing such capabilities. Why US investing potentially BILLIONS of dollars in making such defense system?

Reality: Defense contractors gonna get paid son, get the fuck out of the way!

Not so fast.

The agreement NOT to have missile defense was one of the biggest cold war contracts between U.S. and USSR. After both sides raced to weapons, which was very costly and dangerous, there was the danger that they will now race to missile defense systems.

So they made a contract that each of the sides can have only very local anti-ballistic defense installed. They both got to pick some limited area which they want to protect, everything else is open. This assures that each of the sides has no incentive to strike first, because by striking first you just get annihilated second, but for sure.

Soviets picked I think Moscow for this small area to defend, while U.S. picked some ballistic missile base somewhere. Lazy to look it up.

Now, the politicians in U.S. want to spend taxpayer money on new and very expensive weapon systems. It has the small benefit that it will trigger Russia to spend a lot on weapons too, but it is terribly inefficient. Given the amount of nuclear and thermonuclear weapons that Russia has and is able to produce, it is highly doubtful U.S. can ever be protected from them. Which is good. Only time a nuclear weapon was used was only one country had it.

So I think U.S. just wants a new weapon race, despite it being most cost inefficient and very dangerous. Fox news brainwashes people and makes them believe that Russia is nuts and you guys all are in grave danger without such a defense.

Russia does not need an arms race because they don't have enough resources, and they drop such threats to show to the general public that this thing is actually making things worse not better.

I'd rather turn my eyes to Iran, once they're about to have nukes it's fucking Game Over, Israel is never gonna let that happen ...

Well you dont exactly erect a missile defense shield overnight. It might take 5+ years to get the system fully operational.

This is statement is absolutely ignorant, Iran getting nuclear weapons would be a great stabilizer in the region, it would balance the firepower and they would cast out the american invasion.

i need to get into this weapons business... seems pretty lucrative...even busto uncle sam wants to put MORE money into weapons systems...i gotta get a piece.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. And I know 100x more than anybody on this forum about Iran and the middle east political landscape.

Edit: Im not saying it is not true though, you sound like you are certain and all Im just saying is that I wouldn't be so sure about that.
