British tournament crusher Stephen Chidwick has won the PokerStars European Poker Tour Prague (EPT) €50,000 Super High Roller event after seeing off Bertrand Grospellier heads up, his final opponent from a 44-entry field featuring a who’s who of the No Limit Hold’em tournament poker elite. Chidwick added €725,710 to his stellar resume.

Two combatants on the final table of six that played to a winner today have already collected trophies at EPT Prague this week: Spaniard Adrian Mateos won the €10,300 High Roller that kicked off this year’s festival, and Jean-Noel Thorel the €25,000 No Limit Hold’em event last Sunday, winning €177,500 and €248,740 respectively.

These two players started the final table as near-joint chip leaders, Thorel busting the UK’s Ben Heath in 6th (€149,410) to cement his lead. A huge cooler versus Chidwick, however, changed the dynamic of the final for good, and Thorel was eliminated in 5th (€192,100).

Though Chidwick did not have smooth sailing all the way to the trophy, he busted both Steve O’Dwyer in 4th place (€245,460) and Mateos in 3rd (€320,170), starting heads up play with a 4:1 chip lead. His final opponent Grospellier proved very hard to dislodge, however, evening the stacks more than once before finally succumbing in 2nd (€501,590) after two and a half hours of one-on-one play.

The prolific French pro’s total live earnings now top $14.5 million, while Chidwick’s extraordinary year continues. Alternating cashes in tournaments at the highest level in NLHE and PLO throughout 2019 (16 six-figure prizes so far this year), Chidwick stands over $10 million clear at the top of the England all-time money list, and 8th in the world. He’s just added €725,710 and an EPT Prague 2019 trophy to his string of achievements. To recap play-by-play action from the final table, visit the PokerStars Blog.
